Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

A friend of mine came home for the weekend from UCSB so we tried to get a game goin at my place. 2 people busted in 30 minutes and didnt wanna re-buy so the game broke...

Me and him decided to check out all the pros at the Commerce in town for the LAPC. We hung out in the high limit area watching Phil Hellmuth play Chinese poker with Chino Rheem, Kelly Kim and Sean Sheikan. across from that was Mike the mouth playing a smaller game of Chinese. David Williams was playin 100/200 stud and there were countless pros playing 10/20, 20/40 NL along with some PLO games running.

After that We went to the Crystal to play a little bit and since he didn't wanna play, all of a sudden, i had a grumpy cheerleader behind me the whole session.

Ran pretty well and made a couple of bluffs that worked out and left after a short session up $150

Current Bankroll : $3,710

Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

Went back to the commerce to check out some of the tournaments that were still going on. Saw Joseph Cheong, Hellmuth, The Grinder, Elky and many others.

After that i decided to donk it up at the 40NL table. An hour or so into the boring game Vanessa Rousso and a friend come in and sit to my immediate left. I had to do a double take and it WAS her sitting there. She was very drunk, as was her friend, so they wanted to play some basically play chip Hold'em. Her friend had never played before so Vanessa was telling her what to do for every action. None of us complained about "1 player to a hand" because it was cool having her at the table.

They were both very nice and talkative, and might i add very hands on when me and her were talking. I obviously wasn't complaining. They left after about 30 minutes and i figured the night wouldn't get any better then that so i left a slight loser, ~$10. Well worth the entertainment IMO

Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

After school tonight i wanted to go out and play a little bit because class was pretty stressful (Teacher mistakes, annoying people in my class etc)

I got to the crystal casino at about 11PM and, unfortunately, a game JUST broke before i got there so 4 people were already on the board. So i waited for about 30 mins and got into an average game, which by any other casinos standards would be a pretty damn good game. Not many interesting spots except when i folded KQo on a Jh 10h 3x board to a $15 lead, raise all-in to ~$28, and a call. Maybe i am being results oriented because the A obv hit the turn but w/e.

I think i play a little bit too tight sometimes in these games, even though the +EV play is too sit and wait. I feel like sometimes i wait too much and take advantage of some good spots. I am still aggressive when i am in a pot, but i feel like i should open up a little bit. How do you guys feel about playing in very LAGgy games?

Got up after a short 2 hours session winning $48

Current Bankroll : $3,758

just a short side note: you mentioned earlier in this thread that you don't record sessions that are break-even or close to it. don't do that, it distorts your hourly rate.

Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

The home game i tried to set up tonight failed...again so we decided to go to the bike, because we figured there would be some good action there. Theres a tournament series going on there btw (winning o the green).

We get there and my friend, who is 20 but plays at casinos sometimes with me, got carded and had to leave. So on the way home we decide to play a 3-handed cash game. $40 buy-in .10/.20 blinds, so we were kinda deep. Which i love because people dont play very well deep stacked. Can't fold TPGK for big bets and get stuck to hands that seem strong but not to huge pressure

So the night started out kinda bad but ended great as i broke the game making $84 in about 3.5 hours

Current Bankroll : $3,842

Talking Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

Had a GREAT night at the bike tonight. Very last minute session with a friend and I am sure glad i went.

Got there at about 930 and got seated into a 2-3 (100-300) game pretty quick. It didn't look like a great game but most of the table was stuck which definitely helped create some action. I hit a couple hands and built my stack to about $500 then this hand occurred.

V1 BB ~$180
V2 MP $35
Hero CO covers

5 limps to me and i make it $15 (too small) with 88 V1 calls and V2 goes all-in for another $20 and we both call

Flop ($120) 10 8 8

V1 checks to me, and i almost never slow play but since i had the deck so crushed i had to let him catch up a little bit so i check back

Turn ($120) 5x

V1 checks again but i had to get some money in the pot so i bet $25 and he surprisingly snap calls leaving himself ~$110

River (Main pot $120, Side pot $50) Ax

V1 moves all in for $110 and i obv snap call and he showed A5 for running 2 pair. Don't like to be results oriented but if i bet the flop he folds and lose out on all his value.

So i ended the night with my biggest win to date +$707!!!

Current Bankroll : $4,549

Yea that's for sure. Thanks man

Also just wanted to let people know that my goal to move up to the 5-5 game at the bike was $4,500 so i will be playing in that game semi-regularly. Probably around 30% of the time i would guess

Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

Went to the Crystal casino tonight after my friends party fell through

Got there at 11 which is pretty late for me, AND it was daylight saving so i lose an extra hour in the middle of my session. Anyway got seated and immediately flopped a flush for a small pot. Ran pretty well the whole session and ended up booking a solid win. I have a hand that I was wanting some opinions on also

V1 $120 loose passive reg, like to slow play
V2 $110 Thinking, competent reg who sees me a tight(ish) solid player I think
Hero covers Been playing pretty tight and have shown down mostly all winners

Hero opens in MP to $8 with AQ V2 calls on the BTN, V1 calls from BB

Flop ($20) KQ2
V1 checks i c-bet $12 both V1 and V2 call. Whats their range here? I was thinking mostly FDs and J10, possibly a KJ type hand as well

Turn ($56)9
V1 checks I check as well (bad check? I felt like this card completed so many draws or gave draws pairs that i should check it and not hae to face a big raise if i bet again) V2 thinks and ships it for $90. V1 folds and it comes to me with basically just a bluff catcher. I cant seem to put him on a hand i beat here. Q10 hit 2 pair J10 got there FD got there. Easy snap fold?
Spoiler:

Anyways, during all that my buddy who came with me was getting coolered all night. AA all in against KQ OTF of J82 and AA all-in against 76o OTT of 956K board both lost. So he busted in a very ugly way and we left after about 3 hours. I get hit by the deck pretty good and left winning $115

Current Bankroll : $4,664

Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

Just got back from Crystal casino which is my new poker home it seems. I pretty much know all the regs there and they know me, but most of them dont really think past "I has pair, i bet/slowplay"

So a kind of swingy session as i started up about $40 then lost a couple of pots. So i had ~$65 and got limp re-raised by the UTG player and i ship it with QQ expecting AK but he had KK and i could feel the tilt coming. I eventually calmed myself down and rebought

This is probably the only interesting spot I was in the whole night and would like some of your thoughts on it

V1 BB ~$50
Hero UTG Covers

I raise to $7 and get called in 3 spots including V1 in the BB.

Flop : ($25) Q95
V1 insta ships for $43, I thought for a little while on this because i still 2 other players behind me to worry about. The few hands i was putting him on were KQ, QJ, Q10, maybe J10?. But the conclusion i came to was that he was putting his money in trying to "protect his hand" in the way only live NL donks know how IE all-in.

What are your thoughts on this situation?
Spoiler:

At the end of the session i ended up + $2... And as styx2000 said earlier in this thread i should count all my sessions no matter how small a win/loss because it will affect my hourly

Also the last couple times i have been to Crystal Casino there has been a big white chip mixed game featuring, among others, Johnny Chan. They play anywhere from 4-8 games and normally 200-400 but they kicked it up to 400-800 last time. It made me feel like i was in a much bigger game since they were at the table next to us haha

Current Bankroll : $4,666

Re: $25,000 BR grinding live low stakes by the end of 2012

So one of my friends is turning 21 this week and a big group of our friends (12) are all going to Vegas Friday-Sunday. It's my first time and literally can not wait! Only 1 other person plays poker though and hes kind of annoying to be around for long periods of time.

AAAAAAnyways..... We are staying at 2 different hotels because the birthday boy's parents are paying for his suite at Palazzo which is only going to house 4-5 people. We got another room at Harrah's and that's where i will be staying, or i guess i should say sleeping since i plan on playing a lot.

My questions are :

1) I think i am going to play at Aria and/or Bellagio, does anyone else have good recommendations? Probably going to play 2-5
2) What are the easiest ways to get from Harrah's to Aria or Bellagio?
3) Is there a distinct skill difference between 1-2 and 2-5? I beat the 1-2 and 2-3 games in LA I also played 5-5 and didn't feel like scared money or like the players were much better
4) Will any of you be in LV this weekend? Would be cool to meet up/play with some fellow 2+2ers
