I play mainly Fridays and Saturdays where the games are good regardless. Was considering going Tuesdays to if there are games going. Also those cash games sound similiar to the games in Gala on a saturday except everyone is terrible and maybe one guy is say for £300 initially.

Also I have friends who have went to Broadway and some go quite often but I don't have any friends who grind there really so what they're telling me might be utter bull.

Also would you mind if I Pm'd you some questions regarding Broadway/other live orientated questions? I feel like I have a lot of questions I'm wondering about which would be a lot easier if I could ask you outside of this thread. Cheers.

Oh by the way in my first chip porn picture the guy with all his chips in was the whale I was talking about. I think he shoved for 4x pot in that pic haha.

Good luck mate~ messaged you on fb some of my thoughts

H5 to all poker players in Birmingham!

edit: Broadway rake is £5 per hour I think, so instead of getting raked per pot, if you play more pots and go on a good run in the hour you end up winning more

TYTY everyone . I hope I can continue to play like I am right now but the long weekend nights are really starting to get to me and starting to affect my body clock which is messing up the rest of the week. I literally have a nap every day at mid day now which before I started grinding this year would never ever happen and I honestly don't think it's great for me since I'm always feeling tired.

Any tips from anyone on how to overcome this?

I've been prolly 10-15 times and 8~ of them have been in 2014 on Fri/Sats and the 1-2 NLHE game at broadway has most recreational players buying in for between £50-200 and then then people i consider good regs buying in for max which is £400 and keeping their stack topped up at all times.

They have a stupid rule about how you can't match stack sizes. Ie if you get stacked lose a £1k pot to a whale you don't have the option to buyin at £1k, I think this rule is to prevent the game from exceeding the limits and turning into a bigger game than it's meant to be, but when the 1-2 is the biggest game in the room there should be no max buyin imo...

meh!

If you go broadway then gl. I just did a binge of 5 days of live poker in a row and completely neglected my online game so won't be in there

Thanks man . Just trying to build up my roll before going to Broadway and busting it all haha.

Anyway Saturday Session review.

Along with playing Poker, I also ocasionally play another card game (Yu-Gi-Oh) and there was a regional on the Saturday for it so I got up for that at 7AM, did terribly because I haven't played in ages, went to my local uni 10p/20p uni game going on where I didn't give a **** and bust KK vs Q5s on a 9s 10s Jc board AI on the flop and then after went to play at Gala for the £35 thing.

I felt pretty tired and played pretty terribly for the first hour before busting close to the break losing AQ vs AQ vs 88 AIPR. Whatever, rebuy. After the break I feel a lot better and start to play a lot better getting to the FT with an average chip stack (95k). Where I lose a 150k pot AIPR hand AK vs AJ where he rivers a 1 outer Jack since the board came so he couldn't hit the Jack of spades and another guy had J4. I then manage to triple up the very next hand getting it in 87s vs AA AIPR where I turn 2 pair and then double up again A10s vs 55 AIPF.

I then run super hot, get Aces twice where 2 medium stacks have shoved into me and come into last 4 as the chip leader. Eventually 4th busts and everyone has similiar stacks, we agree to take £400 each and play for £130. Eventually third busts and I lose a flip 66 VS KQo and I am supershortstacked heads up. I say I'll take £440 and he takes £490 and he accepts. He also takes 3rd place and I to Macdonalds and pays for our meals, what a guy!

Anyway profit for saturday
£440 - £70 entries - £15 taxi - £20 uni pre game = £335

Roll as of 23/02/14 - £2135

We sometimes have A 10p/20p Uni game going when people feel like playing. It's spontaneous but people from UoB have shown interest in playing so we might get more frequent/bigger games. Join the Official Aston University Poker Society. You will find all you need there.

how much money is on the table? like i've played in 10p/20p games where average stack is £200 which is fun : )

The games don't get that deep. I think the max I've had on the table has been 175. If we organise a proper game usually it's 10/20 with minimum buy in of 50. But that's quite rare. Usually it's just 10/20 but in for whatever. As I said just sign up to the FB group.

Ended up playing on Thursday due to not having any lectures until next Thursday. Played the £45 Tournament. Ended up busting 9th AQ vs AQ vs AJ AIPR when the guy river a Jack. Sigh. Also spun a random £5 chip I had up to £20 through Roulette which paid for taxi

£90 Tournament + £15 Roulette - £45 Entry - £15 Taxi = £45 Profit.

Roll as of 28/02/14 = £2180. Keeping good progress right now hitting my £1k goal. Hopefully I can keep it up.

Haha I'll try and sort one for next week to get loads of people in.

Anyway saturday session in review;

So I decide that I'm kind of drained playing tournaments, even though I've been crushing at them lately, so I want to play cash for the night. I start at 9.30 at Broadstreet playing 50/1 and soon find out this is the tightest game I've ever seen. Bunch of student grinders and **** nitty regs all playing each other so I decide to open my game up and become super aggro. I think I raised every hand to like £7 every time it folded to me with 2/3 limpers since it pretty much always worked or I'd take it post flop. Anyway by 11 I'm about £45 up which at that game is impressive, but at that time I was just waiting for my friend to text me Gala updates when a cash game was running. I left for Gala around 12 and sitting at the table was no other that Paul Newey. I decide that whale hunting is the best kind of hunting and get on the waiting list with my friend Matt who I've persuaded to leave the ****ty Bstreet game and play 1/2 for the first time.

So I eventually get on and sit with £300. After going down to £220 I rebuy until I have £350 behind. The only significant pot I played with Newey I had QQ in the BB and raises it to £22 when he calls a raise in the SB with £7. He calls and flop comes AJ9r. I bet £28 he calls. Turn Q. I check he checks. River 3. I bet £56 he tank calls with KK :O. It's ok though I think he'll survive the night considering he 80k in chips in his pocket and only £400 on the table.

Eventually he leaves and I move to the other table, there are no regs at all so I feel I have a massive edge. I just win a load of medium £100-£200 pots with weird hands like 45ss on a 36K95ss board where the other guy flips over 32 and amazingly I'm good.. He was terrible and I was hoping he'd stay since he had £400 behind and was raising £45 pre with KJs and Q10s etc. He leaves around 7 and I am sitting with £940 from my initial £425 sit.

Good night over all +£500 which is nice and got to play against Paul Newey which was nice haha.

£920 - £400 buy-in - £15 taxi = £505 profit

Total profit as of 01/03/2014 = £2680

nice profits

but paul newey is a whale compared to top pros, but in comparison to people like us he's still going to be thinking on a higher level, or at least i'd presume...simply due to play so many SHR events

gj doe : )

He wasn't bad but he wasn't good either. I mean he called like a £55 bet on the river of like Q9764 with like a 6. He was right but it was a **** call haha.

Anyway chip porn

meh, maybe he was just there to relax. Plus sometimes you can make thin calls. Not something I do very often as it's high variance, but with a BR like newey maybe he's pushing the edges!

not a fanboy of newey but when i see people doing stuff i think is 'bad' or 'fishy' yet they have more money than me and consistently play at the highest levels, sometimes it's not just donklike behavior, however in this case it might be :P

Well he wasn't bad but put it this way, I'd rather have him on the table than any reg in birmingham right now, and they don't play 1 drops haha.

So I played yesterday and had my first big losing session. Yay. I went to Gala to play the £25 + £5. About 80 entrants, got to last 20 with 10BB and ended up shoving in the BB with J3s to try and punish the 2 limpers behind. The first limper tanks and calls with J7s. FFS.

I go and play PLO 1/2 while I wait for a seat at holdem. I think I have an edge on the guys on the table since all of them just seem to want to gamble but it's Omaha so that might give them an edge haha. Only significant hand went as follows

I get
AJQ10ssss and I raise to 7. 1 caller. SB makes it £22. We both flat.

Flop
J107dd

SB bets £50. I call on the intent of shoving turn on a brick. We both have £200 effective

Turn
4d

He checks, I comtemplate shoving in order to protect my hand from some kind of KK/AA hand with no draw. But I check just in case

River
5d

This card completes weird straight draws and flush is still there so I'm wary. He checks I check back

He shoves KK36 so he backed into a straight which sucked since I had him destroyed on the flop and that was liek the only way he was getting there.. Just worked it out and had 80% on flop but who cares about stats it's Omaha,

I move to cash being like - £120 on Omaha and play the £1/1 game where I proceed to not pick up a hand for around 5 hours and just tilt my stack away because I'm a donkey. Nothing significant happens since I'm so card dead which sucks since there was a load of fish on the table.

Anyway ended down £320 so that sucks but variance had to strike eventually.

£2680 - £320 = £2360 profit as of 05/03/14. So even with this downswing still on track so not the end of the world.
