I play in a lot of uncapped games too - but for 5/5 PLO the limit is $500-$2000 (enforced). That 5/5 game is straddled to $10 on the button 99% of the time.

Inherited problem with selectively following rules is that you can no longer have problem with others doing the same thing.

Grey area rules are mostly about game format and exceptions are clearly presented to and accepted by the entire table.

i.e. Guy covering the universe goes south in order to loan the action player money... table looks the other way.

Poker has a political side to it.

I'm like bip! in that max buyins to me are a guidline rather than a rule. I have no problem with anyone going north as long as it's open to everyone. And for special cases I'm ok if only the whale gets to do it.

I played in a game in DC for a few years which had a nominal 4k buy-in "guideline" but we had one player who always wanted to cover the table when he sat down, and whenever he lost some money (or someone else won some) he rebought to cover. No one ever objected

I think it's all one slippery slope.

If one were to go north I think it should be announced to the table and as long as there are no objections it seems fine, but if you do it without letting people know, I think it is scummy and wrong.
