February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

I'm setting a few goals for this month.
I've recommitted myself to poker.. I have been reading a lot, and I'm just starting to grasp the whole game of poker. I am at $227.92 right now, with a $20 bonus so close.. I will be at $250 by tomorrow probably..

I am going to grind 4nl (6 tables) and 10nl (4 tables) until I reach $300.

After that, I will play 10 tables of 10nl until I get comfortable at 10nl again.

I had a bad downswing that was 40% unluckiness and 60% bad play. I didn't know why or what I was doing back then.. now I am more confident in my plays, and I ask myself why I do a certain play each time. I am no longer just playing my cards.. I'm also playing the opponent.. 3betting light against low Ft3b and other scenarios like that..

Goals:
  • 2,000 Hands a Day
  • 60k Hands in February (I'll find out how to get the extra 2k in there.. There are 29 days this month )
  • $400+ in Money Won at the tables this month.
  • Bankroll to $650 by March 1st
  • 8bb/100 Winrate
  • No more MTTs! Only buy in with VIP Points!

Life Goal:
  • Get back on a normal sleep schedule.

I think these goals are attainable. I want to crush these goals.

I will post in here confusing hands and updates on my progress.
I really want to play 29 straight days.. I want to make a post each day. It's going to be very difficult but I believe I can do it.

I want money. I love money. I hate working. So I play poker.

Good luck! I'm doing almost the exactly same thing. Nearly identical bankroll and goals. Will be following this closely.

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

February 2nd, Midnight Session:

I did pretty bad.. I started my session on 10nl tables, but they started to die.. so I played a mix of 6 and 6 of 4nl and 10nl.. 12 tables

I lost 2.4 BI at 10nl, but won 2.5 BI at 4nl..

Which added up to a net loss of $13.87..

I had a confusing hand with QJs.. Villain bets half pot on the flop, bets only 1/3 pot on the turn.. and on the river he pots it.. I have two pair.. I think he turned a made hand into a bluff.. like he had showdown value and thought he wouldn't win the hand unless he made a big bet on the river.. What do you guys think?

Merge - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: $10.00
SB: $5.65
BB: $10.15
UTG: $11.40
UTG+1: $11.35
MP: $16.72
MP+1: $9.49
LP: $2.96
Hero (CO): $10.00

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has Q J

fold, UTG+1 raises to $0.30, fold, MP+1 calls $0.30, fold, Hero calls $0.30, fold, SB calls $0.25, BB calls $0.20

Flop: ($1.50, 5 players) 4 7 Q
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP+1 bets $0.75, Hero calls $0.75, fold, fold, fold

Turn: ($3.00, 2 players) J
MP+1 bets $1.00, Hero calls $1.00

River: ($5.00, 2 players) 5
MP+1 bets $5.00

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

wadduuuuuuuup!

gl with ur challenge man i ll be following.

i think i d play ur qj the same way. no need to raise/fold turn cuz it opens the door for bluffraises with Ahx to which u have to fold. if turn were offsuit, stack off all day. as played fold to bet imo (esp given his river sizing) and bet/fold river as well if checked to.
his sizing actually makes it a snapfold. he s never bluffing here imo

as for your q's in lazy's thread i ll just chime in and add my 2c:

against pretty much any uNL villain b/f lines all the way to the river are very likely to be the most profitable. lots of players will be calling down way too light and never semibluff/bluffraise. so a raise at all stakes up to i d suggest nl25 meanst nutterbutters. i wouldnt go as far as betfolding three streets with second pair though since this is the had u want calls from. but you have to develop a folding ability ov decently strong hands at these limits because you will find that raaise= nuts a LOT. like a FRICKIN LOT

glgl will be following

Not a level
By working, I mean I hate having a standard job.. I like to study poker / read.. I will put in the time to learn as much as I can about poker (I've read almost every COTW btw) but I do not like having a set schedule.

Btw, thanks for the input. I appreciate it.. I will try b/f line more often.. I sometimes check back turns to get them to open up their river calling range.. like I'll get them to call with some mid pairs vs if I 3barrel, they will fold it on the turn sometimes..

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

whats this cotw everyones talking about.. never heard of that.. link?

its obv depending on mirrions of variables but the most common example is when you have a solid top pair hand

eg:

AQs utg. u raise. bb calls.

flop: A58r. checks. bet. call.

turn: T. checks. default plan should be bet/fold.
river 9. checks. i think against many vilains this is a check back but the betfold concept applies to a lot of fish here that are not folding aces ever.

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

the checking back turn line is only worth taking vs decent regs imo. but most of your showdown pots will be against fish and the best way is to barrel away flop and turn most of the time and check back the river if u think they dont call with worse for three streets. pot control is useful but since most will stick their holecards straight on their forehead when they raise this concept loses much of its use in uNL i get the feeling

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

Ya pot control is overused in unl by too many regs. I used to be guilty of it.

You should want to pot control more against better players who are going to raise you with a good balance of bluffs and value on the turn.

People are pot controlling vs loose passive fish though ffs. Just bet/fold each street imo. Some regs find it painful to value bet a good hand like TPTK and then fold it to a raise though, so they'd rather check it to make it easier to get to showdown.

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

February 2nd, 2012:

Bankroll: $226.65
Hands: 3,040
Total Won (w/ RB): -$16.68

I played a $5.50 FO.. Last one for a while.. Donated 15% equity to a friend as birthday present.. it ended up being a present that was worth $0 lol since I didn't cash.

During my sessions, I had a few coolers.. like set over set.. this guy bet pot on the flop.. then bet $4 into a $3 pot on the turn.. (Dryish board.. What hands other than mine will call that (I raised)? Not really any draws lol.. only gutshots.. He's just wanting the villain to have a set of Kings or Jacks lol..)

I have a hand that I think I may have bet too thin for value.. maybe, maybe not..
Villain is 11/6 with 2% 3bet over 165.4k hands (lol reg).. Early Position PFR is 1.02% (0.90% is KK+) AF: 1.8
Cbet 74%, Cbet turn 45%

Merge - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BB: $2.06
UTG: $14.01
UTG+1: $17.72
MP: $9.38
Hero (MP+1): $11.69
CO: $12.68
BTN: $13.95
SB: $10.00

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has 8 8

UTG raises to $0.30, fold, fold, Hero calls $0.30, fold, fold, fold, fold

I call PF to setmine and sometimes call a flop cbet on a dry board because he will go for a cbet with AK..

Flop: ($0.75, 2 players) 6 5 7
UTG bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50
I call flop because I have an overpair.. but really because I have an OESD and if I hit a 9, I may be able to stack some sets and overpairs because they won't believe I have an 8 in my range.

Turn: ($1.75, 2 players) Q
UTG bets $1.16, Hero calls $1.16

I call turn because I still have an OESD, and this guy likes to barrel against me for some reason.. (prob not getting the best IO because now a flush draw is out and a 4 will be very obvious.. 9 less obv

River: ($4.07, 2 players) 8
UTG checks, Hero bets $1.00

I bet 1/4 pot to get him to call with overpairs, any set.. once in a while a Q..
I don't think he checks a 4 or 9 that often.. or a made flush.. so I bet for value, do you guys like to check back or agree with my logic?

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

I personally would prefer a raise on the flop. Say an unknown villain raises utg in fullring. His range is all kinds of pairs and aj+ but more likely higher pairs among those. If he is any good he will ck/fold a flop like that with his a hi type hands because it smashes ur calling range. If you raise tho u can credibly rep all three sets and even the straight and get him to fold JJ+ by the river close to 100% of the time even unimproved cuz his hand is a one pair bluff catcher. I also think ur implied odds for the straight are minimal as it would be a one liner.
As played I like slightly bigger bet otr fwiw. I think he will call just as often if u bet 2$

Re: February 2012 Goals - 10nl Grind

The reason I prefer being the aggressor against villains is because they tend to either cbet call call fold too much with overpairs thus giving you three presents for one and secondly because you want them to stop cbetting flops like that in the future so that they simply start check calling more which makes them play face up in the future. Huge benefits to you since u re in posotion
