Hey guys, my name is David and I live in Auckland, New Zealand. I play under MissOracle on Stars. I'm 18 years old and have temporarily taken an 'indefinite' break from University after completing my first year, last year. By nature I'm a person who generally has entrepreneurial traits and I studied Commerce. Long term I generally want to make a living through business. I'm an opportunist and barring things with moral complications am open-minded to new ideas etc, if I think they are profitable... When I was younger I played the Pokemon trading card game fairly competitively and got to travel to the States twice for free to play in the World Championships, lol. I ended up selling Pokemon cards on the NZ equivalent of eBay for a couple of years before eventually discovering, then getting good enough at poker to do better than break even.
I've played a decent amount of most things (6m sngs, 9 man sngs, 180s, mtts, 6m cash), like most starting at $1 9 mans and 2NL before learning and moving up. I primarily played 180 mans most of last year and this year I am hopefully going to reach SNE. I've played some MTTs but have run pretty poorly (not terrible, but just below expectation).
I'm not 100% sure what I will play yet, but most likely it will be a mix of games. What I play will likely change if game types/formats offered change. For example, I was planning to play High Stake 6-max SNGs, but recently have been playing CAP. I also plan to play $100 6-max hypers.
The problem is that I'm by nature kind of lazy and procrastinate a lot.. I haven't really gotten proper coaching before, and I don't do the most study either. So most of what I do know is more or less a lot of small things I've learnt over the last year "pieced together", as well as general intuition which improves my game the more I play. I probably will seek coaching at some stage, and/or just study myself with Wiz/HEM/Nash calculators more often, but for now I'm just going to continue to play and re-evaluate on a regular basis.
When playing CAP I mostly 24 table 2/4 and 3/6, but have started game selecting a little more. A lot of the games are pretty bad to be playing, since even if you are one of the better regs (and since I'm relatively new to them/haven't done much work etc, I'm not) the rake is pretty insane. That being said, the fish are usually really bad and as you can imagine from this format, like to gamble.
Playing 100 6m hypers I rake approximately $200/hr (1100VPP) and playing CAP I think it's a bit less, but the sample is small and I've got some short sessions in my database which shouldn't count (e.g. 4 tabling whilst playing hypers or whatever). The hypers have been ok so far, as you can imagine there are a decent amount of regs already (and I expect this to generally get worse in the near future) and a lot of fish don't know about the games yet since they are so new. That being said, some of the regs are not very good (just in general, or some are specialists of other game types so don't necessarily adapt to this format so well; at least at first).
I generally am pretty terrible at game selecting, but sometimes if the lobbies look really bad I'll stop playing or skip a few games. If the lobbies look ok, I'll probably play some 6m normal/turbos throughout the year as well, and hopefully game select a bit more. I played in a bunch of 4-6 reg games especially after heatering at the start of my sample which resulted in some nasty swings. I am currently in a flexible backing deal, but am considering/exploring options which may suit me better overall (ones that include coaching/have better cuts/whatever).
Pretty badly organised but here is a bunch of photos.. I used 40% rakeback, but this will reach 60+ if I actually make SNE
30 hypers overall
100 hypers
6m overall (excluding hypers)
Overall this year
CAP so far
Finally VPPs so far.
Am doing pretty poorly this year so far as you can see above, and obviously behind pace which is expected because of my travel plans etc. I expect/plan for the majority of my VPPs to hopefully come somewhere between June - October?? Sample sizes are tiny thus far, so this will probably change, but for now I am aiming to at least break even in CAP pre rakeback, and for a 1%+ roi in the hypers. If I game select more this will change but at the moment I don't think I can realistically aim much higher with the number of tables/game selection I choose to play. The HEM ev line doesn't work for 100s yet and I think there are flaws with it anyway, but I'll post more stats in the future. Anyway that's all for now, sorry again for the massive tl;dr and thanks for reading this far if you did
