Let's give this a second go then.

Hi! I'm Bloobird, and before I fell into the unblinking abyss that is POG, I had a Poker Goals and Challenges thread here that detailed my attempt to go from an initial £50 deposit to a shot at the London live games. Ultimately I ran that $80 up to $1500 or so, then withdrew $1k for that underrolled live shot. The games in London went fine, I ran the £600 up to about £900. Unfortunately I then took it to Atlantic City on holiday and blew most of it (a combo of bad play and bad luck), the remainder was spent on a couple of nice meals and presents for the wife.

I also stopped paying attention to playing properly online, which meant the $500 left there quickly dwindled to under $200. And so I decided it was time for another thread. My account has about $190 in it, going to start at 10NL and try and work my way back up the limits. Ultimate goal is to get to a live roll again, will probably start taking the odd live shot if I get this up to $2k or so. I'm a reasonably low volume player, I 3-4 table and only play a few evenings a week (lolrecreational players, I know), so it'll be a good while before I manage anywhere near this.

Graph of all my play up until this thread (covers my previous PG&C, my tilty rubbish meltdown and the shoots of recovery)

Anyway, just got AA in against KK for 100bb pre only to see the king straight out the gate, so lets hope the rest of this thread goes better. Down $12 today so far. But back in a proper frame of mind, so I'm optimistic anyway.

947 hands, down $0.98 for the session. Woulda been a winner but I got top two in against top set in the last ten hands, oh well. Running mediocre, getting some hands but little action when I have them, and a lot of second best hands/villains getting there on the river. Doing pretty well at not paying them off though.

One bad play - stacked off 80bb with AQs against a fishy (but probably not fishy enough) player who ended up having AK, probably shouldn't have been pushing weaker than AK/QQ+ there.

So despite those mediocre opening sessions, still feeling optimistic. I think my weakness is always being a little too spewy, taking a stab at pots I maybe shouldn't and overestimating the level that villain is on. Two big mistakes so far, a hand with AK that I posted in MSNL and the AQ hand mentioned above, both times they cost me $8 or so. Plenty of fish around (Easter weekend helping there probably) and encouragingly virtually zero shortstackers. I guess Stars' anti ratholing policy actually worked! Here's hoping for a winning session next time.

I'm a rec player with a wife who's not keen on me gambling much (hence why I'm still working from the £50 deposit I made over a year ago rather than just jumping straight into live games). I need to keep 'poker money' and 'real money' separate to keep her happy. Happy wife, happy life.

      Goals

      1. 10k hands/month (this is surprisingly challenging for a rec player who only 3-tables).
      2. 8bb/100 at 10nl (maybe a little ambitious but definitely feasible IMO).
      3. Mix in 16NL when my bankroll's over $320 - hopefully by July if I hit the above targets.
      4. Move up to 25NL once my bankroll's at $500 - hopefully by September.
      5. $1k by the end of 2014.
      6. No more than one tourney shot a week, and never for more than 2% of my bankroll.

Kinda ambitious maybe, but I can revise them if things go badly.

Ultimate goal is a £2k live bankroll. This translates to about $3400 right now. Hoping to be there by the end of 2015 maybe? Long term planning but then that's the way I roll.

UTG+1 is a 25/25 aggrofish (stats are reasonable initially but I've seen him double barrel with junk and be aggro with midpair)
CO is 26/21, 0% fold to cbet off 50 hands.

3bet pre because wtf is that bull**** minraise. 99 is good enough that I don't want half the table coming along, which they will if I flat here. So a smallish 3bet seems optimal.

OTF, cbet is obvious, but when he raises what on earth does he represent? There's no draws. The only value hands that he'd raise with here are Tx and 55, and there's relatively little of that that's likely to cold call a 3bet. Even if he does have that, why would he raise here? The SPR is small enough that stacks should go in by the river, and he's in position anyway. This is a bluff probably over 80% of the time at least. Then he feels like he has to stick the rest in on the turn because idk why really.

I'm highlighting this because it's the kind of FPS I often get sucked into, raising a flop because 'well what can he have that hits this board?', without thinking what there is that I credibly represent myself.

393 hands today, $28.66 profit. That's more like it. Although tbh I stacked one guy after slowplaying top set and getting lucky that he hit a lower set on the river, and stacked another after I called a 3bet IP with AKdd, and floated a bet on a low, one diamond flop. He checked when a second low diamond came on the turn, I semibluffed and was called. River came the third diamond and he couldn't fold his overpair queens when I shoved.

So a good bit of rungood really but then you've got to take advantage of it when it comes.

Villain is 25/18, 43% fold to cbet off 130 hands. No drooler, but no nit either.

Everything seems standard up until turn IMO. Not sure what to do there - his range is probably kings, club draws, tens and a few stubborn pocket pairs. Check/call seems probably optimal.

I'm never good when he shoves river, though, am I? Pretty horrible spot but I can't construct any kind of range where calling that is a good move.

Idk i think u might have been good to call. His shove on river is just over half psb. He might be opening 25-30 from the co, narrow his range from there. What's he flat a 3b with? What's his af?

He's never shoving as a bluff there, is he? That's value almost always. I think I'm being optimistic if I hope he does this with a worse king often at all. Anything under a pair of kings surely checks this back unless he's got total air, and I hadn't seen anything that indicated he was a spewtard. And I reckon his range for kings that I beat here is pretty much exclusively KJ.

Granted his fe is really small so maybe it is pure value, idk just tryna help u analyze. Honestly i woulda called but that doesn't mean its the +ev decision, just my decision lol

Ugh, kept playing on a table as it broke up because a massive fish was on there. Of course I ended up dropping like $15 to that fish in heads-up and shorthanded play. Fish always seem to godmode me when that happens. He called every time I had nothing and folded everything I had something.

Think I should avoid playing shorthanded for now tbh, even if I've got an edge it throws my game on the other tables. So back to a net loss overall so far, but still an improvement over my position yesterday.
