Become a winning HU Cash player.

Ok, backdrop.

I started playing poker around April 2010. I was mainly focusing on $6 sngs to start with which I found pretty easy to beat but kinda slow and boring. Always the same pattern of someone doubling/trebling up with AK vs a pair or something a couple times till the bubble then having to battle against them once the bubble burst. Got kind of bored of this and found it kinda slow with not much skill involved.

Started playing the turbos and hyper sng HU games on FTP and I find HU a lot more interesting and fun to play since you're always involved but the variance shot up a lot. Once I got the hang of these I was able to go on some serious crushing runs but got ridiculously frustrated and went on mega tilt at times which has been my main downfall. I turned 5$ into $1.5k with the following rules -

Played $5 HU games till I reached $50 then moved to $10.

Then when I reached $200 I moved to $20.

Done this till I reached about $500 then moved to $50.

Got up to $1500, withdrew $1100 for life purposes and lost the other $400 staying at $50 and losing a few coolers then going on mega tilt. I've had some big winning runs since and some big losing runs. I haven't let the money effect me too much and put most of it down to learning more about the game. Most of the time I start off winning a lot then have a couple of bad beats and go on huge tilt. This is something I need to cut out my game if I'm going to succeed or its doomed from the start.

Anyway, deposited $60 in account the other day and decided to sit with roll on the table at HU cash. I don't want people preaching BRM to me and how crazy this is. It was for enjoyment as well as profit. Spun this up to $400 but ended up going back down to $220 by the end of the day.

Have just installed Holdem Manager and will be using this to track my progress. Will be starting with my challenge this weekend and post hands in this thread for feedback hopefully. I know people will say I'm playing wayyyyy outwith my means but I enjoy poker as well as wanting to earn money off it. If theres no edge to it then it can get a bit dull, winning $6 sngs isn't going to make a difference to my life

i agree man go big or go home, you could waste your life playing $6 sit&gos however more can be made in just one hour of $100 cash

So you've got a $220 bankroll OP? 1 tabling 50nl HU probably? Best of luck.

Don't get me wrong. I understand there are more sensible ways of doing this but I don't have the bankroll and wont anytime soon to be properly rolled for 50NL and since its the game I want to play and the lowest on FTP I don't really have a choice.

Yeah. I know its far too low to start as but like I say, only option if I wanna play HU cash.

Decided to start a bit early as I have some free time. Heres a couple hands I've played today I wouldn't mind some feedback on. I think I pretty much always have to call and if he has the flush its just a cooler really but wouldn't mind knowing what anyone who has played HU Cash more often thinks. I know normally I should re raise pre but he was really aggressive and I thought I might be able to get it in with him on the flop if he hit something lower than a Q. His aggression was part of the reason for calling on the flop.

Hero (BB): $68.70
BTN/SB: $101.25

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is BB with Q Q
BTN/SB raises to $1.50, Hero calls $1

Flop: ($3.00) A 6 Q (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN/SB bets $2, Hero raises to $9, BTN/SB raises to $28.50, Hero requests TIME, Hero raises to $67.20 all in, BTN/SB calls $38.70

Turn: ($137.40) Q (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: ($137.40) 5 (2 players - 1 is all in)

And also on this hand. Again my reasoning for calling was that if I hit I might be able to stack him. I don't know what the exact odds were of me hitting as I haven't really learned the odds of hitting a set in all honesty. Is my call pre terrible? Just looking to learn. Any views on my river bet would be good. I don't see him turning up with a flush here ever really and figured a bet this big might induce him to call rather than scare him away. The only flush I see thats really likely is J10 which would just be unfortunate.

Re: Become a winning HU Cash player.

Heres another few hands that I had to make some tricky decisions in. Advice is welcome because I know I can improve a hell of a lot.

Villain was 3betting me pre flop and then betting big on flop a lot. Sometimes just open jamming on flop and I'm certain he had air for a few of them but I couldn't call. When they had something they were normally just checking or betting small so it was usually easy to tell.

Re: Become a winning HU Cash player.

#1 If villain is 3 betting and then betting big on flop, Q8 is not a good hand to call his 3bet with..guess you can figure why. As played I think calling on flop is fine, but when the turn pairs the board and he checks to you i reckon it's a mandatory bet.

#2 Shove flop imo, don't think this board hits his 3betting range so hard + you got pair and gutshot.

#3 I'm not really sure what i'd do there, reckon it's really read dependant, can he play flushdraw like that etc..Maybe hand like A-2-3-4-5-8 with Aor maybe he has a set, then ur ****ed obv. Tell me, what did he actually have there ?

#1 - He turned out to have complete air. Obv I was relieved to see it checked down.

#2 - Had that horrible feeling I was crushed when he shoved river. He was doing stuff like hand #1 a lot and checking it down when I flat called his cbet on flop so figured a call wasn't so bad here.

#3 - He Had J8. Kinda horrible shove from him imo.
