In Phuket i had True fiber optic which was awesome and rarely disconnected.

I expected internet in Bangkok to be just as good but it sucks. I can only get 1 provider and there is no fiber, only ADSL. I get around 5-6 disconnects per session on average but at least only for 15-30secs at a time.

I have always built my own pc's so i just ordered the parts and put it together myself. most of it comes from invadeit.co.th.

    But thanks for the information.
Because of the internet I heard that the 3G Stick from AIS works well.
But I never tried it, do you know about it?

Ahh that makes more sense, the desk i got from ikea in bangkok for around $150. Being able to adjust the legs is quite nice as i keep the front legs a bit lower so its tilted making it a bit nicer to rest my arms or when i tilt my chair back.

I have grinded quite a lot on 3G, before when i was just using a crappy blackberry phone i used the stick but now just tether from my S5 and it works great with no disconnects as long as you are not looking at websites at the same time. Actually i should just use this as my main connection to grind from as it is also fairly cheap (i think i pay $10~/month).

I can understand a few phrases in Thai and can speak a little bit but really not much at all. Pretty much everyone can speak English here so it is not really needed, it just helps sometimes. I went to school here for a couple of months (although officially a couple of years) and so i can also read a little although i didn't get far enough to understand what i was reading (just spelling out the alphabet).

I left Phuket because i was a bit bored, I had been there for 3 years and honestly was mostly bored of eating at the same restaurants all the time, they are decent but Bangkok has a lot of really good places to eat and i figured since i was a bit more stable financially then i should just go there.

I do miss the great Phuket community though as i have a lot of friends there that go out daily to eat/drink/play sports/go to the beach etc.

I live in Ekamai and pay 24k rent ($750). Electricity, water and internet is about $100 on top of that.

They still list my condo on the website: http://www.rentinbangkok.com/listing-property-692.html

In the short time that i have lived here i would say that around Asok/Phrom Phong would be the ideal area to live if you can afford it.

    Weekend results: fri-sun

Overall i felt that i played pretty well, i reduced the amount of tables i was playing (9-12) to focus a bit more. I also tried to take a bit more time with decisions that i would normally rush, working out exactly what i beat or could get value from, standard things that go on in your head subconsciously but sometimes it helps to take a bit longer and say stuff out loud to yourself.

I took some shots at higher buyins playing the 265ko and 320superko, doing ok in the latter. Sadly i had a horrid weekend at lower buyins, having only 1 cash over $100 at <$90 buyin!!

    Hey Alex, whats up?

I really like your blog, read the six pages on a blink. I started playing online poker and trying to make a living out of it only two years ago after I met a former german pro living in NZ that told me that he lived several years in Colombia and Argentina thanks to poker. That inspired me to pursue the dream and one day do the kind of thing that you're doing now.

Altough according to my calculations I still have for another couple years under mom's wing and financial support before going for the big adventure, Im already doing some research and considering places where to relocate to when the time comes.

Thailand is a place Id love to go but a few things worry me:

Hows the healt care? I hardly ever get ill but is nice to know that you have a safe and clean hospital where to land just in case, right? And I picture Thailand as not one of the best places when it comes to health system. What about safety? Is it alright to go out for a walk by night and to hit the bars and play pool with locals? Will I be more of a target for being caucasian if I walk the wrong streets at night?
How is it to socialize with other travlers and expats when you're living on your own flat and grinding long sessions every week? Do you still manage to make yourself time to meet people (chicks ) and have fun? Where do you get to know other expats? Bars? FB? Other social places? Are there any more poker players that you know on your place?
How do you move around the city? You own your ride or you use public transportation system? If you do use it, is it reliable? Does it have 24h service? Does it go everywhere around Bkk?
Finally, what do you do on your spare time? You travel around Thailand much? Is it cheap to do touristic stuff around the country from now and then?
I think that the visa thing is another history since Im not from Europe and itll be a different story for me.
If you dont wanna answer everything since its a looot dont worry, ill understand.

Congratulations for going after your dreams and living the adventure of a life time and thanks for sharing your experiences!

Hey, i started grinding now so i may not go into too much detail but will try and answer your questions.

I have only been in one accident here in Thailand, it was quite bad, i came off my bike going about 100kmph, got a lot of road rash all down my side and split my elbow open needing 6 stitches.

The next morning i decided to go to a clinic rather than a hospital as i knew that there was a huge difference in price and i didn't feel that i was in that bad of a condition that i needed the best medical care. They did a really good job scrubbing out my wounds and stitching my arm up, gave me antibiotics and said that i should come back a couple of times to change bandages and have the stitches removed. I don't remember the exact cost but remember at the time thinking it was really really cheap (i would guess <$150).

Before i had this accident (and my reason for not going to a decent hospital) my friend who came to stay also had a motorbike crash but just ended up with road rash. She got an ambulance to Bangkok hospital where she stayed for a few days and her medical bill was well over $1000+ (although she had travel insurance that covered her).

Basically if you don't want to spend a lot of money or your problem is just small then there is usually a cheaper option but if something serious happens then you will want to go to the best hospital (and yes there are some very nice hospitals all over Thailand). I think Bupa insurance is about $700/year.

Thailand seems very safe, before i came here i also pictured it to be completely different but really nobody will bother you unless you are too drunk and acting like a complete idiot disrespecting Thai's or their culture. I feel it is much safer to go out at night here than it is in Sheffield, England where i come from (and that is one of the nicer city's in UK).

There are tons of 2+2ers in Thailand and it shouldn't be too hard to get in touch with people here and go for a drink etc.

I got told that i wouldn't need a motorbike in Bangkok and that traffic was awful so i sold my bike to a friend in Phuket before leaving. After a couple of weeks here i got a bit annoyed at sitting in a taxi in traffic and ended up buying a small bike that i can nip through traffic in. I really love how much freedom bikes (scooters) give you and i still find it a lot of fun even driving through heavy traffic. I paid $750~ for my bike with 5k km on it and gas is super cheap (<$5/week).

go to focus on grinding now, got a few more tables up.

Nope, not at all actually. Usually i end up regging for a tournament and get a message "not enough funds in account" so have to transfer from ftp or send a message to backer to send a few k more. If i have a few wins and am doing well i would be checking balance quite often as i could cash out/settle up whenever i am up above the starting roll.

I think i have a pretty clear head and enough experience to know that everyone gets swings so not to think too much about it.
