Re: 2NL to somewhere, last losing player post

You need to tinker quite a bit with the program to makes sure you have all the scoring and things set up to make sure you find the best tables, takes a while but is definitely worth it once you have done it.

Thnaks. Any articles or tips? I just have the stakes and set to players with over 50 hands and 30 vpip. I then just look for players with stats like 35/3 or 90/60 etc

Re: 2NL to somewhere, last losing player post

Just upgraded to PokerTracker 4 and half my hands never imported (it froze and said imported 256,000 hands out of 145,000).

For some reason my PT3 isn't working properly now either.

So going to just stick to PT4 and "start 5NL again". I still have $40 profit from 5NL but I'm gonna use that for when I want a change for fun, PLO, SnG, Tournaments etc.

I made so many errors when moving to 5NL by doing all the same crap as before:
Playing too many tables
Playing when tired or in a bad mood
Playing too many hands, not folding when I should and betting when I shouldn't etc

Like when I "restarted" 2NL and seemed to crush it compared to the attempt at start of thread I'm going to attempt that with 5NL now.

Will stick to less moaning or complaining and just post interesting hands with my thought process and results.

I reinstalled PT3 and back to using that.

Not sure if my posts are in the best format. I try and post my 3 biggest wins and then 3 biggest losses. Should I do differently? I don't post the wins as brags but for anyone to point out wrong plays and that I just got lucky. Will check out some of the more successful goal threads and see what works.

Lessons learned, fold to 3bets more, they probably have it and don't play the regs as much.

Going to start a new DC video series tomorrow. Either Thin red grind, baby steps or baby steps.

Re: 2NL to somewhere, last losing player post

Looking like I'll be moving down to 2NL again!

Down 7 BI.

Actually thinking of just giving up now to be honest.

Balance is $65.

I can see where I make mistakes but just can't seem to change them. The biggest thing is calling 3bets way too much.

On top of that every good hand I have gets outdrawn. AA < 66, QQ< 64 where the last two.

Actually I don't think I will move down, I'll just keep playing 5NL with this and if I bust this that's it finished.

Re: 2NL to somewhere, last losing player post

Reading through the original post. Goals were:

[ ] 6-8 hours of play a day
[ ] Play a maximum of 4 tables.
[ ] Beat a limit each month

That's been over 2 months and it looks like I got in about 3-5 hours at the max per day.

Spewed a tonne playing more than 10 tables at times.

Beat 1 limit so far and struggling with the current one.

I made profit of over £3000 in past 2 months (over 200 hours) playing 1/1 live. That is gone as well as my live roll! I spent it and had to pay a few unforeseen things off.

So I think a goals update for the rest of this month would be:
[ ] Get a job! A quick 2-3 month contract job would give me at least £8-12k
[ ] Put aside a roll for live poker from job and save the rest
[ ] Make a decent attempt to beat/progress at 5NL by putting in 8 hours per day with a max of 4 tables

Not making excuses for bad play but maybe a lot of IRL stuff has effected it. I seem to be tilting a lot recently.

Finally if anyone wants to sweat me over team viewer/ skype that would be appreciated. Skype name deannolan1

Slow steady progress wins the race. It sounds to me you are expecting too much too quick. Also sounds like because its NL5 you dont care and that also affects your play because you think you should be playing higher(Ive done this and it has massive affects tilt wise).

What you need to do is do whatever you can to just forget about the money and concentrate on making the best decisions you possibly can at the table. Like the calling 3bets thing, I would hazards a guess that if you folded to every 3bet at this level and only continued with the very top of your range then you wouldnt be making a big mistake.

I cant really help with the sweat thing but if you can record a session for about 30-45 minutes and get it sent to me i will get pockets of time at work where I can go over it and analyze it and see if i can help you out that way.

Yeah your definitely right. I've mentioned about the money before not meaning anything at 5NL. When 3bet what's an extra 40c right? Funny because my 2nd run at 2NL I played good and rarely called 3 bets.

Going into a session now and that's going to be my main leak to fix.

I'll look at getting some software to record a session. Thanks for that.

Just read all of Phil Galfond's well post. That has some amazing insights and inspiration in it.

Good luck. I have a similar goal to yours. Just playing 6 max zoom nl2 and trying to move up as fast as possible.
