25NL by Sept, Youtube Channel and Life Goals + MM2
Alright so I have now been playing poker for a year and 11 months and I finally feel like I have broken through the skill barrier to win at uNL. I've been playing uNL cash for 2 months now and am finding success at 10NL FR and moderate success at 10NL 6max. Before that I put all my effort into MTTs/SNGs but couldn't find my way until my most recent (and best) coach helped me through cash.
So if your still reading, here are my goals for short-mid term in a lot of things:
25NL FR by september:
I am currently beating 10NL FR at 9BB/100 and breakeven + RB at 6max over around 60k hands, with another 30k of practice hands at 4nl
I started my roll super short with reloads if needed from my backer and am currently up to $270. Goals:
[/] play 1k hands a day during work week and 2k hands during weekend
[] break $500 roll
[] Take 4 BI shots at 25nl FR
[] play 25NL full by the time I go back to college in sept.
[] move up to 50NL and 25NL 6max by end of 2012/end of school year
I work full time for Niagara Parks (Ontario, Canada) and have my poker schedule working around it, but now that im settled in the job would like to up my volume from the 60k hands/2 months that im at.
Work:
I am hoping to go into september with $3k in bank after taxes/gas/beer money for the summer. which is definitely doable in 2 months of work, especially as I have some saved up from a previous convenience store job (my tuition is already paid for so I just need school money for rent/beer/food haha, yay student loans)
[/] Finish the summer with $3k+ after taxes/gas
[] Take a $300 live MTT shot at Fallsview OR
[] Take a 2 buyin shot at live 1/2 NL at Niagara
Youtube Channel:
one thing that seperates myself from most uNL players isn't skill or ability but my understanding of meta game based aspects and theories that are key (albeit natural) to higher limit players. there is a lot of info that is fresh in my mind as I go through the motions in uNL and would like to track my progress while helping out other uNL players through a video log style youtube channel.
Topics and issues I would be tackling:
- Bankroll Management
- Verneers Monster and Nute
- Concentration, distractions and multi tabling
- Table selection and player marking
- Why we play less when winning and more when losing
- Understanding Variance and how it affects our outlook on winning
- Identifying the difference between playing bad and running bad
- Why ABC works in uNL but not in ssNL
-Many more, I have hours upon hours of discussion about topics like these that I have found that 95% of uNL players lack in most ways, and this is why I feel most of us struggle through uNL.
[] create an intro video and channel
[] create 2-3 concept videos a week + tracking my path through uNL
I have experience with creating and running youtube channels and find that that is where my expertise will lie but the mental aspect of the game is something that I can certainly provide a good understanding of and I know that I will only be able to help other uNL grinders that are stuck going through the motions of playing right now.
Micro Millions 2:
I am playing the micro millions on stars next week with a bankroll of $134 for 22 events, including the main event and 2-3 rebuys, as I have to set my schedule ahead of time to be able to play the events.
[] Cash atleast 3 of 22 events
[] FT 1 of 22 events
[] Break my highest MTT cash of $350
[] Make a big run at a 4 digit+ cash
obviously these goals are less likely to be achieved than the rest as it is a small tournament sample of huge fields, but hey why not throw it in right! gl to anyone planning to play this fishstick fest of a series haha
working out:
now that my work schedule is 40+ hours a week like it should be, I have to adjust my gym schedule
[] Run 30 mins + a day after work shifts (4km+, yea im not too fast lol, 1km in 6-7 mins is my range)
[/] Gym 1 hr+ on weekends for muscle building/toning
I like to keep in shape but the only way to do it is to plan it around the rest of my life (which this summer is essentially work/poker/getting drunk) and keep motivated enough to do it!
so all in all, this is everything and if anyone is interested please check this thread out as hopefully I will be getting this youtube channel going! and please if you understand my intentions for it, I would love to hear some encouragement over flaming so I have the initiative to get it started, if you have suggestions please PM me!

Re: 25NL by Sept, Youtube Channel and Life Goals + MM2
haha thanks and yea I dont really understand how it all works but I need to get my cardio back fully so hopefully it will balance out even if I dont gain much muscle due to burning the rest during the week running lol, but like I said i should really have a better understanding of working out before I set up a schedule like that, but if I have to choose it wil be cardio etc, gotta lose the beer belly before it can really start

Re: 25NL by Sept, Youtube Channel and Life Goals + MM2
Thanks peter
life lesson learned today is not to try and 6 table HU + 2 FR just because fr traffic is so slow, even if the hu players are soft :P
took hit a couple unusually bad beats like JJ vs 44 on flop of 46J where we get it in and he rivers quads :P
bankroll is still a healthy $235 and now that im back in control ill be just fine, 23.5 BIs isnt a great br but at this level and playing low variance FR ill be alright!

GL OP
IMO you should focus on either FR or 6max or HU, better to dedicate your study and playtime to one type of poker.
My skype is Jordan.Lewis1992 If you wanna talk hands.

Re: 25NL by Sept, Youtube Channel and Life Goals + MM2
played 1.5k hands today and finish +2.2 BI at 10nl
BR: $304.4
gonna watch the movie ted and poss play a couple merge tournies or some mm2 satties now.
odd hand:
Both callers are loose spewy fish and im just not able to let this go vs the ones out of line bet. other is a calling station and i feel im just way ahead here a lot of the time vs these players, but what can i possibly hope to accomplish by raising? folding out worse and losing to better, so i just cry (yet somehow happily) call down hoping im right here
Merge - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4
UTG+1: $9.15
UTG+2: $18.64
MP: $14.75
MP+1: $9.85
CO: $13.52
BTN: $11.11
Hero (SB): $11.13
BB: $12.82

Flop: ($4.56, 3 players) 6 2 3
Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP bets $1.75, Hero calls $1.75, UTG+1 calls $1.75
Turn: ($9.81, 3 players) 3
Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP bets $2.50, Hero calls $2.50, UTG+1 calls $2.50
River: ($17.31, 3 players) 5
Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP checks
Hero shows Q Q (Two Pair, Queens and Threes) (Pre 50%, Flop 76%, Turn 88%)
UTG+1 shows K A (One Pair, Threes) (Pre 36%, Flop 18%, Turn 12%)
MP shows J K (One Pair, Threes) (Pre 14%, Flop 6%, Turn 0%)
Hero wins $16.45
villain is weak tight (12/6 over 48 hands, 58 afq)
im never ahead here on turn and maybe not on flop either, not enough info to have that early of a read, but def behind on turn, yet any J or club and im ahead enough of the time to get it in profitably, BUT since im not getting the right price, what is the correct turn play?
Merge - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 9 players

Re: 25NL by Sept, Youtube Channel and Life Goals + MM2
In the first hand I like the 4bet since given your read I think they can both have 77-JJ. I would prefer a raise on the flop or turn since I don't think they can fold those hands.
Second hand fold pre. I'd fold the turn too since your pair is never ahead and when you hit your draw it won't be good a lot of the time since he has so many full houses.

Re: 25NL by Sept, Youtube Channel and Life Goals + MM2
You have lots of goals I see, I took a shot at Casino Niagara the other day (lost $400 obv, KK vs AK vs A2 AIPF) and decided to build a bigger roll since I know the swings can be sick, and I like to play longer sessions (get read, build and exploit image etc)
The $300 MTT is not the greatest idea I think, but that's up to you I guess.
I actually am grind right now to play all micro millions events (about 99) with my winnings from 2nl .
The video goals kinda worry me, because I've tried that thing, on my channel and I posted 3 videos of past HHs when I use to degen away my money up to like 5kNL on party poker.
But I would say most people are not to interested, unless your some super big winner, over a large sample otherwise why get poker advice/strategy from an unknown player?
It also takes a lot of time to make videos, edit and upload them. I do it just for me, just so I have a sort of "video diary" type thing, just to go back and see how I played at 2nl or whatever when I'm higher stakes.
I'm not saying don't do it, just asking why you are doing it?
But anyways good luck!

Re: 25NL by Sept, Youtube Channel and Life Goals + MM2
hey thats sick man where are you from? I was a reg at Niagara last summer and pocketed some cash before I went to college, but this summer I just don't have the time or bankroll :P
and im doing it because I enjoy it, Im in media design at college and producing/editing videos is something I like to do, I had a starcraft channel 2 years ago which helped lower level players work their way up and it was quite succesful for the short time I ran it, so im taking the concept here,
I know the target audience is not very big at all but once I get vids out and people realize they're helpful, ill hit that TA 100% head on and that will be good, even if I can get 1 or 2k subs Ill be able to monetize a youtube partnership and get some revenue off the ads that hit home with this incredibly specific TA.
I just recorded the first episode and just have to edit now, over 10 minutes long, so its not lacking content in any way for sure!

Care to explain thought process on hand one please?
I wouldnt play the first hand like that.. if villians are spewy fish like you said you must valuebet your strong hands against them.
Checking that flop doesnt accomplish pretty much anything, you lose the iniciative of the hand and you are lost not knowing where you are at the hand. Also, you must bet for value since this kind of players imo wont fold 77-JJ to a cbet on a board like that hoping that u had AK/AQ type hands that missed. If they are really spewy theres also a possibility that some of them have a hand like A5s/A6s and you MUST make them pay his retarded pairs and stuff like that (i mean, one guy had KJ ffs).
Another argument for betting is that you dont want to give them a free turn, which could be an action killer for you (aces and kings for example make your life pretty miserable).
Having bet flop, turn should be a pretty easy barrel, a set would have raised flop imo trying to stack your premiums and avoiding scary turns, and in my experience this players wont raise OTT 77-JJ so it would be a pretty easy hand tbh
Checking that flop butchers the hand IMO (i could be wrong of course, just trying to help)
Goodluck
