May was quite a swingy month for me. In cash games, I started off hot right out of the gate, cooled down for a couple weeks, heated up again for a week or so, then lost a little bit the last few days to finish out the month. Overall, I made about $3100 over 37k hands, winning about 6.5 buyins at 200nl, 11 buyins at 100nl, and 13 buyins at 50nl.
In MTTs, I played 107 tournies with an average buyin of $21.81, cashing 13 times and losing $790 overall.
Here are my graphs from the month:
9500 hands, +$640
27k hands, +$2460
Altogether, I profited about $2300 for the month, which isn't bad; I had just hoped for better numbers at this point. I've had a pretty wide range of emotions over the past month, mostly dictated by swings, and a few days ago was about as tilted as I ever remember being. There were a few sessions where I just forced myself to log on and play without even really wanting to, just going through motions and clicking buttons like a robot. This is the worst mindset I could possibly have, and I hope in the future I'm wise enough to not even play if that's how I'm feeling. Since then, I've had a few convo's with some fellow grinders that has helped my mental game tremendously.
At the end of the day, nobody is forcing me to play poker. If I don't want to play anymore I don't have to. I choose to be here, and I'm very fortunate to have had the success I've had, as well as great opportunities to improve every day. Keeping this in the back of my mind will help instill both the confidence and work ethic I need to continue being successful in the future.
A new month has started and I've been grinding away. I haven't made any specific goals for June yet, but the idea is just to put in as many hours and make as much profit as possible. I will post another update on this month's progress soon.
