May was quite a swingy month for me. In cash games, I started off hot right out of the gate, cooled down for a couple weeks, heated up again for a week or so, then lost a little bit the last few days to finish out the month. Overall, I made about $3100 over 37k hands, winning about 6.5 buyins at 200nl, 11 buyins at 100nl, and 13 buyins at 50nl.

In MTTs, I played 107 tournies with an average buyin of $21.81, cashing 13 times and losing $790 overall.

Here are my graphs from the month:
9500 hands, +$640

27k hands, +$2460

Altogether, I profited about $2300 for the month, which isn't bad; I had just hoped for better numbers at this point. I've had a pretty wide range of emotions over the past month, mostly dictated by swings, and a few days ago was about as tilted as I ever remember being. There were a few sessions where I just forced myself to log on and play without even really wanting to, just going through motions and clicking buttons like a robot. This is the worst mindset I could possibly have, and I hope in the future I'm wise enough to not even play if that's how I'm feeling. Since then, I've had a few convo's with some fellow grinders that has helped my mental game tremendously.

At the end of the day, nobody is forcing me to play poker. If I don't want to play anymore I don't have to. I choose to be here, and I'm very fortunate to have had the success I've had, as well as great opportunities to improve every day. Keeping this in the back of my mind will help instill both the confidence and work ethic I need to continue being successful in the future.

A new month has started and I've been grinding away. I haven't made any specific goals for June yet, but the idea is just to put in as many hours and make as much profit as possible. I will post another update on this month's progress soon.

JUNE UPDATE:
I started off the month playing really really bad. I had a bad mindset carried over from the end of last month, and subsequently lost about $1400 over my first 8k hands. However, I'm happy to report I have made almost everything back in the past two days (3k hands, +$1380). If I weren't -$270 in MTTs, I'd be profitable for the month, but it looks like I'm around -$160 total. Hopefully now the downswings are behind us and it's all uphill from here. I look forward to posting another update soon.

JUNE UPDATE:
I've been doing pretty well since the last update. I've had a much better mindset recently and I finally was able to get out of the hole for the month. I am now up about 23 buyins on the month total, ranging from 50nl-200nl, and I haven't even played online since last Wednesday. On Thursday, I had my first ever live 2/5 experience, and ended up putting in around 30 hours or so from Thursday-Sunday, losing about $1250. I ran pretty bad, losing a few big pots I was heavily favored in, and got called on two pretty big bluffs that I was really confident would work. So needless to say, things could have gone a lot better. However, it was shocking to me how soft the games were, and I'm very eager to play again. Overall, for the entire weekend, I feel like I played really well. I definitely still made some mistakes, some of which are disappointing, but I've learned from them and I'm confident I can crush live 2/5 in the near future. I meant to post this update before I left town for the weekend, but was rushed and wasn't able to until now. I'll post more about the trip in the next few days, with a few hand histories posted as well. I have a lot of hands to make up since I haven't played for the past four days, so I'm about to put in heaps of volume this next week to finish out the month strong. I just wanted to get an update with some graphs posted before I started grinding.

June turned out to be a pretty good month. I started off on about a $1400 downswing over the first 8k hands, but luckily I was able to get hot at the right time and turn things around. Overall for the month, I won about 26 buyins over 45k hands for a total profit of $3650. It wasn't necessarily my most profitable month, but I feel like I improved a lot in several different areas-including my mental game and handling downswings, as well as making adjustments to maximally exploit different types of players. I also had the opportunity to play my first ever live $2/5 cash games, and although it wasn't profitable, I am confident I will be beating those games soon.

Here are the monthly cash graphs and respective breakdowns by stakes, as well as overall cash graphs of all hands played to date:

Monthly graph: 28,000 hands; +$3,800

Overall graph: 275,000 hands; +$16,100

Monthly graph: 16,500 hands; -$150

Overall graph: 31,500 hands; +$60

I haven't posted a goal for a few months, but this month I have been trying my best to win 50 buyins and play 70k hands total. I started off doing really well for the first week or so, but have since cooled down. As of right now, I am +33 buyins after 46k hands. I'm going to be grinding hard the next 10 days to finish out strong, and I'm looking forward to posting a positive update once I hit the goal.

Here are my updated monthly graphs, through yesterday:

24k hands, +26 buyins

22k hands, +7 buyins

JULY UPDATE:
With six full grind days left before the end of the month, I am currently up around 38 buyins through 60k hands. I've been playing mostly 100nl, so cash profit is only about $3700, but I am going to be grinding heaps in the next six days to get to the +50 buyin monthly goal. Here are the updated graphs...

+$3750, 33k hands

-$80, 27k hands

I also binked a nightly $55 tourney last night for $4300, effectively pulling me out of an MTT slump and bringing my MTT ROI to 45% through 349 tournies, average buyin about $22. Total, on the month, I am up just a little under $7k.

I will be posting another update after the end of the month.

JULY UPDATE:
All-in-all, July was a pretty good month for me. I played every day, played a lot, and feel like I consistently played some of my best poker throughout the month. I wasn't able to reach the profit goal of +50 buyins, which is a bit disappointing given how hot I started off. However, I did reach the volume goal of 70k hands, which is a pretty big accomplishment to me. Total, in cash games, I won 35 buyins for a profit of $3192 (a few hands are missing from the database). I also had a good month in MTTs, playing 21 total tourneys with an average buyin of about $89, cashing in 3, profiting $2830.

Total, on the month, I profited about $6022 over roughly 200 hours.

MOVING FORWARD...
Since I didn't reach my 50 buyin goal last month, I'm going to shoot for the same goal this month, and try to play as much or more hands. I have a lot going on this month, including building a new desktop, shopping for a car, and a bachelor party in Nashville; but I hope to start using better time management, so 70k hands should still be within reach. I hope to post another update here in a few days.

AUGUST UPDATE:
I've had a pretty hectic month outside of poker, and I'm one of the worst time managers in existence, so that is why it has taken me so long to post an update. I think I burned myself out a little bit last month trying to reach the volume goal, so it was really hard for me to get motivated to play again after a few days off. However, that time was not completely wasted, as it was spent building a beastly new grind machine with a pretty sweet dual monitor setup. My laptop is about 5 years old and it's on its way out, so it was nice to get this new machine up and running before my laptop bites the dust.

At the moment I am sitting at the airport in Nashville waiting to catch a flight to Jacksonville to grind live 2/5 cash for two weeks, and I've never been more excited for poker in my life. I'm looking forward to putting in a lot of volume and it has the potential to be a really great experience. I am also bringing my laptop, so I plan to post an update after the first few days.

I'm having troubles linking my entire Hold Em Manager database to my new machine, so I honestly have no clue how many hands I've played this month, but I do know that I am down close to $2000 between the two sites. Hopefully I will figure out how to transfer the rest of the database and have an accurate graph posted soon.
