I meant to mention this earlier in the thread. A few months ago, I did an hour session with mental coach, Jared Tendler. It is the best money I've ever spent. He has some great articles on his site. Check it out.

This article is pretty good. I think that poker players underestimate tilt issues, because they think that this is just part of the game. In fact if you would play always optimal, variance would not been as high as it is.

Myself havin issues with tilt, and I managed to control it, atleast about 80%, it's not possible to control it 100%, atleast not for normal human being.

My advices to all with tilt isuess are:
1. Take breaks, enough of clear air, eat carbohydrates before starting a session, don't play when you feel tired, drunk...
2. Don't look into your cashier too often, always play the best as you can, never underestimate the opponent, when you feel like today is not your day and you're already down 4BI's+ just quit for today and come tomorow with new mind set. Never play vs opponent to which you have lost for 2 or more times already, even if he's a fish.

And bear in mind that if you're going to play optimal, luck will not be an important factor over decent amount of games.

Why the allin tho? Why not a bet of about 320-480?

I tilt so much easier when I'm really tired. Was crushing a guy in 550s, took a few beats, then I'm talking **** to a railbird and spewing my stack. I'm usually good about ending sessions before I'm too tired (tilt sooo ez), but, more importantly, I prefer to not act like a ****** in chat.

I thought this was fun:

chaos0505: you clearly care a lot more than i do
chaos0505: last game for me
HokieGreg HU: talk **** back to me so i look less childish

Had a good day though. Played sooo well for first 2-3 hours, then played kinda B/C game-ish to end day. I think I need to catch up on some sleep tonight. Was up 4.4k at one point today, finished +2.6k. EV finally catching back up for the month a bit.

i'm behind, but tbh i really haven't grinded hard this month yet. i'm going to make 70 this month no problem im 99% sure. i'm getting very comfortable at the 550/1100 levels...if i can play these levels the majority of 2011, SNE will not be hard.

alex is staking me for at least the next 2500 games at 500+ (i get coaching too) - afterwards, ill prob take 100% of myself 1.1k and lower (remain staked 2k/5k). i'd say i'll be on my own at 550s (and prob 1100s) by May or June - not too worried about it though.

you can! i'm anything but a natural talent. i started out as an epic delusional fish, then a marginal winner in microstakes 6max cash, busto'd rolls multiple times at small stakes, learned a million lessons, and finally started to slowly put it all together. i've been playing husngs for about 3 years, but i spent at least 3-4 years before that playing other forms of poker. 7 years of trial and error - I better be able to show something for it, haha.

my favorite thing about poker is how it forces you to be honest with yourself. it forces you to confront your weaknesses, and if you want to improve, you have to turn them into strengths.

an example:

3 years ago I couldn't play a husng session longer than 45 minutes or I would lose focus and get fancy play syndrome. my volume was awful (quality of play was decent though). Over the years I slowly increased the length of my sessions, slowly improved my monthly volume...now I can play 2 4 hour sessions a day and SNE actually seems like a realistic possibility. Work ethic, tilt control, and focus (the ingredients for high volume/long sessions) were my weaknesses at the beginning of my career, now I think I can say I've turned them into some of my biggest strengths. All of these kinds of improvements have even more positive applications to my life in general.

nice story greg - and incredible strength to continue after so many times f. u. ur roll!
my story is similar but much shorter. and i guess my skill is ok, worked on focus and not makeing b-game due to your post as u know. and w/o family and high responsibilities there i would play much more and especially i would have gone pro moving to a low cost country with lots of sun. i guess i could do quite good in the future skillwise, but action should somehow come back a bit more.
as u say poker is extremely great - to work on yourself - to focus - to think bout new patterns, learnings etc. i could do that all day. but my jobs sucks and keeps me busy.... and in addition is not doing my nerves any good. wife freaks out like today and i come back easily to smoke and whisky isof no smoke and no alcs and more exercise to keep my brain fresh for poker

having a tilting session so far today. not down much - just one of those sessions where nothing is going right, boards are running out lame, not getting in good situations, opponents playing better than usual, etc. def trying to manage well today and take a lot of breaks and play a little lower. just one of those days i guess.

Your playing more than normal right?

Your volume is bigger this month than the rest of the year.

What sort of bank roll do people advocate for hu sngs? Anywhere/anything you recommend for getting better as stacks get shorter? Is there a shove chart chart you use (maybe pm)?

Nice thread. Thanks.

Nice thread. Thanks.
I use Nash for endgame when I'm shoving my sb. I call based on reads from bb, unless I think villain is shoving Nash in which case I call a Nash range.

You can read more about endgame strats here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/18...ubukov-560408/

December 18, 2010

December VPPs: 36,543

I played pretty great this morning. I played a few low stakes games last night and got a good night's sleep. I was feeling a little burnt out yesterday and was tilted off and on throughout my sessions, so I just scaled things back a bit and managed as best I could. Learning how to catch yourself burning out before you burn out 100% is key - I've spent a lot of time in my career failing w this, but I think I'm getting better and better at it.

Played some 4 mans w MJW this morning and a bunch of games vs some 200-330 regs. Mostly 1 tabling...just wanted to think about decisions well and get in some relatively easy volume.

I opensat 5.5k lobby for about a minute today too. Still makes me kind of anxious lol. Some huge fish I had played earlier was basically openshoving Pistons87 in a 2.2k, so was hoping he'd sit me after their game. Unfortunately, the fish won the 2.2k and decided to end his tilt session there.

Going to play another long session later today.

Graphs:

December 110-330 2s

December 500+ 2s

Good luck.

i don't know how to do that. any ideas?

i was planning on posting final totals for profits (including rakeback, 4mans, buying action) at the end of each month. i guess i could do it at the end of each week if you guys are interested. let me know.

everything included, i'm up a little over 10k this month. i cleared the 400k bonus for 3k.
