I am going to share a secret with you all.

The key to learning poker is 1 tabling. The key to continuing to improve at poker is 1-2 tabling. Stop the mass-tabling, esp if ur at lower stakes. Practice doesn't make perfect in poker, practice make permanent. Cut back on your tables and focus more on improving your decision-making. The $/game that you gain from improving your strat decisions will eventually outweigh the money u were making from vpps. The average poker player is getting better every day - don't let your game stagnate and eventually find your game pretty far outdated.

I was focusing on playing too many tables for a while the past year or so. I still worked on strategy a lot outside of sessions, so my game continued to improve, but it could have improved a lot more if I was able to think and implement new thought processes while I played. Cutting back tables is the most valuable lesson I've learned from talking to H2olga (Spamzor has posted this on 2p2 a lot as well). These are 2 of the best husng players in the world and they got to where they are mostly 1 tabling (adonis, icevenom too!).

The key to your long term success is your short term decision-making.

good luck

i was planning on posting final totals for profits (including rakeback, 4mans, buying action) at the end of each month. i guess i could do it at the end of each week if you guys are interested. let me know.

everything included, i'm up a little over 10k this month. i cleared the 400k bonus for 3k.
Taken from fpppro.com, if you started at bronze star this year your overall rakeback % would be 43%. If you started as supernova then it'd be 45%, these are both using you recently hitting the 400k bonus.

To input the % rakeback into your HEM graph go to Options -> Settings -> Rakeback and Bonuses. Then select in the Rakeback section, input whatever description you want (supernova 400k vpp, or w/e) and put in the correct percent or either 43% or 45% to your player name on the site. After that just select the rackback box on the graph/results page.

Great, great post. I couldn't agree more.

I single-tabled my first 1,000 or so sngs, and while it took me a long time, the development it made to my game in the end has been invaluable.

Agreed, probably one of the best threads on 2+2.

2 questions -

1) You mentioned you had problems attaining decent volume when you first started. I also have this problem and am trying to work on it (generally, trying to improve my mental/meta game - rarely tilt, better focus, but have problems getting in decent volume). How did you rectify this (any hints)?

2) How has coaching changed your poker career?

anyways, thanks for the great thread, so many quality posts. Hope you get some run good!

I took yesterday off...did xmas shopping, got in a great workout, did a bunch of laundry...basically just did all the stuff that I ignore when I'm in grind mode (other than gym obv). I find it soo hard to really "reset" myself on days where I play a lot, like getting myself out of a bad mental place for poker/anxiety back to positive mode. I'm scheduling 5 off days a month for my SNE grind, but I really try to accomplish a lot on these days with non-poker stuff. I also plan on scheduling every 5-7 weeks apart 4 or 5 straight off days and going out of town or doing something fun...basically just getting away from poker completely.

Going to the gym then putting in a session. Other than xmas day, I'm out of off days for the month so it will be epic grind until New Years. I've already learned a lot about playing bigger volume at higher stakes this month. It is definitely harder to maintain my normal routine. I'm glad I took the past few months to learn some lessons and prepare myself for this grind.

Hokie get used to this - I'm out of off days for the month.

I'm going for supernova next year. I need to average 25 games a day with a full time job and a family.

Relatively we are both going for new ground. Before this month what was your highest vpp total?

Mine is a pathetic 3000.

my highest vpp total in a month was prob 45k...something like that.

Hokie GL man, I am going for SNE too with HU SNG's. I had the same problem with not enough volume. Hopefully I'll see you at the top in 2011.

So this month has been going deceivingly well for me. I haven't really run well in <500 games where I have 100% of myself, but I keep finding ways to make lots of money this month. +4k 4 mans, +4.5k buying action, +2.5k fpps, +3k milestone bonus, and then another 2kish from playing <500. I'm not counting my 500+ staked games win or lose as part of monthly profit. Everything included, I've found myself up a little over 16k this month. It's the best month I've had this year - I've prob had 5 or 6 months better than this in my career. I'm sure that I will be surpassing 16k months pretty easily in 2011.

I've decided to take most of the rest of December off to focus on finishing up the 30ish videos that I owe husng.com through the end of March (I'm behind on them already). I want to get them out of the way, so that I don't have to worry about making 4 videos per month in 2011 while I'm focusing on SNE volume - I find it very hard to balance high volume w the 4 vids. I feel kind of bad about backing out on my goal of 70k vpps, but this is definitely in my best interest over the long term. Sorry if the thread gets a little boring for a few days, but I think it has gone very well so far and I'm excited about continuing it in 2011.

I learned a lot this month about playing SNE-level volume. I know it will get more difficult maintaining SNE volume over the long term, but I don't think that's something I could have gained much experience in by just playing another 25k vpps this month tbh - I'll just have to learn on the fly and adapt. It is definitely harder to put in SNE volume and balance my normal daily routine. I found myself losing some motivation with the gym, sleep schedule getting erratic, mood swings - I am very self-aware about these issues though and I feel that I adapt to these changes pretty quickly.

I appreciate all the support I've gotten in this thread so far. Thanks and good luck!

Good read. I'm sure you will be TOP in 2011, just take time for real life things, poker by itself isn't life, you know that. Other than that, I would be verry happy if you could do some "standard" videos, please?

Goodluck!
