Re: 1/2 NL Live Summer Grind

Session #20

Played fist cash game since friday, as I played the tourney saturday and sunday which was very disappointing not to cash in.

It was a 3 hour session with a marvelous profit of $3!

Got down about $40 early when I got it in with AK vs a short stack who had 1010 and held.

Just grinded my back into profit for the next couple of hours. I was very card dead and played maybe 7 or 8 hands in the whole session.

Overall Profit +$2024

Anyways my excel spread that i'm using to record everything shows me with an hourly of $18.07 over 112 hours.

My goal is to really pick up my volume in July and hopefully get to the point where I can shot take at 2/5 nl. I plan to go HAM in july!

Re: 1/2 NL Live Summer Grind

Session #21

Played for 4.5 hrs last night and lost $63.

Here was the big hand I lost, I really think i just played it poorly and with no real reads on this villain I should have just folded.

Anyways. im on the button with AQ and it is limped around to cutoff who is an older guy about 50 who makes it 12. I call and an early position guy who had just limped goes all in for $15. 3 way to the flop with about $50 in the pot. Flop is Q78. Villain (cutoff) bets into me $30. I decide to call thinking his range could include hands like Ak and such. Turn is the 7. He bets $50. I tank call but in retrospect this has to be a fold, being that there are just much better spots to make money and rarely is a villain going to continue to barrel on a semibluff here. I called and the river is the 3. He goes all in for $55, I call. He had 88.

Anyways so I lost most of my initial buy in but rebought slowly built my stack back up and cashed out with $337.

Will be playing again tonight.

Overall Profit +$1961

Raise after flop fold if he comes over top. What are stack sizes? I wouldn't check, call, call though.

Edit: old man doesn't tell me much but I automatically think nit, would think he shuts down and wouldn't bluff, if he double barrels I assume he has decent hand.
I really dont think you understand just how fishy these players are in this game. yes, I understand raising pre and all or just folding, but really all you have to do is make a hand at these stakes and people will pay you off. So why not make hands cheap and then start betting...
but you checked...

Re: 1/2 NL Live Summer Grind

Played again last night.

Session #22

Started off playing 1/2 NL and then decided to play in a $100entry $25 bounty tourney which had a 2k guarantee and a pretty big overlay when I entered. I felt I played pretty well and ended up knocking one person out so made $25 off that and then I was sitting on about 20k in chips (starting stacks were 10k) when this hand happened. Some stupid women with fake titz and caked on make up was a huge fish and just lost most of her 40k stack and was down to 15k when she limped in early position. I was on the BTN with Aq and raised to 1350. She called and were heads up on the flop. It came A24. I bet 3k and she shoved, I insta call and she has 33. Turn is the 5, river is 8. I busted out soon thereafter. Really frustrating as I would have been in great shape with about 10 left if I had won that pot.

Anyways, then for some reason I decided to take a shot at 2/5 nl and bought in for $500 (the max here)--and I didnt buy in to 2/5 because I was tilted or anything, it just looked like a really good game and I wanted to see what is was like. Ended up making $148 in about three orbits when I decided to call it a night, didnt feel comfortable losing or having $650 at risk. I still felt that the 2/5 table I was at was pretty damn soft. Dont think I'm going to be playing 2/5 yet but knowing how much more money can be made at this limit has motivated me to try and move up there quickly. Will play 1/2nl tonight.

Anyways I mad $73 for the night if

Re: 1/2 NL Live Summer Grind

hand #1:

Just sat down at this point. i have AJ on the bttn. 2 limpers to me, I raise to $25 (maybe it should be to more?). Sb calls as well as the limpers. Flop is J104. Checked around to me. I cbet $45 and get raised to $110 by the sb. I decided to fold. He told me later that he had QQ and was jut praying there was no ace or king on the flop, obv he played it pretty badly and I can never put him on that hand if he was telling the truth.

hand #2;

Im in late position with AQ and there is a bttn straddle. 4 Limpers to me, I make it $50 and get one caller who on the flop only has $65 behind. I ship it in on flop of 865. He had k10 but my hand held.

Effective stacks, villain info.

25 is fine, pending stacks 30

Fold is fine in hand 1 pending player, if called this hand OTF to the raise I would do it with some backdoor flush potential so I give myself some outs incase this is a set or JT

Re: 1/2 NL Live Summer Grind

Sessions #23 and #24

Played both today and on saturday.

Played really poorly on saturday, where I lost $159. I just made a couple of terrible hero calls that were just way off, I wont even post the hands as I'm too embarrassed

Then played for about 7 hours today. Overall made a profit of $140, only one really interesting spot. I'll post the hand later as I have a thread on it in the
live stakes low limit strategy forum.

Overall Profit +$2015

Re: 1/2 NL Live Summer Grind

Hey guys just thought I would give a little update since its been a while.

Anyways since its been about a week, Ive played four session since then. 3 of which were at 2/5 NL and one at 1/2 NL. Ive been running pretty well which is always nice when you move up (still not sure I am at the point where I will only play 2/5) and I also am playing pretty damn well.

Overall I am up a total of $1444 in these 4 sessions and havent has a losing day.

Sorry that I dont have anything else interesting to post as I didnt really take notes on these sessions. I do remember my biggest pots but they were all pretty standard spots so I dont think theres much of a point in posting them.

Overall Profit +$3459

I have noticed that I really dont feel comfortable if I ever have over $800 on the table so I usually end up switching tables at that point even if its a juicy game just because I dont think I can stand any bad variance with that much on the table. It would really affect me if I lost $1000 or so on one hand

My bankroll is about $6300 right now, so still not optimal to be playing 2/5 but the games ive been in have been pretty soft so its hard to pass up.

I'm thinking about just buying in for $300 instead of $500 from now on, any thoughts?

I can buy in for $500 but then I would only have 12 buy ins or so, I feel like its going to be hard for me to go back to 1/2. I feel like I am finally playing poker at 2/5 compared to the donk fest that is 1/2 where 6 people see a flop on every hand.

One of the reasons why I chose to go to 2/5 was because I will be going back to school in mid august so i dont wanna be grinding 1/2 all summer. I guess I would be more inclined to grind 1/2 if i was going to be here in fl all year, knowing that I could eventually move up. But i just feel like its somewhat of a waste to only play 1/2 when 2/5 has the potential for so much profit. But that probably isnt a logical reason as I can play again next summer and during any breaks when I am home

So would you advise buying in for $500 with my current bankroll of $6300?

I guess one more point to include is that I do have one more paycheck coming in from my job in about 2 weeks which will about $650.

Re: 1/2 NL Live Summer Grind

if you are not following good BRM then play 2/5.
If you are trying to follow good BRM then don't play 2/5.
