The game definitely becomes a lot simpler the less you vpip pre flop; mainly because you'll have the best hand on future streets a higher % of the time.

Opening 22+ A2s+ AJo+ K9s+ KQo QTs+ JTs 9Ts-67s is only VPIPing 16%~ of the time. So your overall number being as high as 31% is probably a function of your btn/blinds strategy. How wide are you raising unopened btns? Do you play 3b/fold from the SB, or have a calling range? How wide do you defend the BB?

Will try and expand on this later, just woke up and don't want to write an essay. But essentially, the better you play post flop, the wider you can afford to VPIP pre.
Thanks for the help. Definitely makes sense what you're saying about the stronger the starting hand then the less tricky spots you'll get into post flop.

I mentioned quite early on in this thread that I was defending way too wide cause "lol pot odds" without really considering that I was gonna be OOP with a bad hand and wouldn't get to realise my full equity since I'd be folding before the river so often. As a result was losing heaps of bb's from the blinds cause I was peeling a cbet with bottom pair and backdoors the giving up on on blank turns and stuff which is obviously gonna hammer the win rate.

I've tried to tighten up my range from the blinds and do feel I'm playing better and losing less from those positions now.

I'm at work now so don't have my exact stats for VPIP from the button and blinds but I'd estimate it's maybe around 40% from the button and 35-40 from the blinds....

I'll generally 3bet or fold from the SB unless I have a decent hand against a min raise but not sure if this is optimal or not.

FWIW I'm winning from every position bar the sb and bb.

The button is my biggest winning position (to be expected I suppose) +37bb/100

My sb losing rate isn't tooo terrible I don't think(?) -12bb/100

The BB stats make horrific reading though lol. -33bb/100...

I really didn't mean for my reply here to get so long so really appreciate the help!

WRT the cash games at GFP, the .50/1 and 1/2 games are by and large some of the softest you'll find anywhere. The 1/3-2/5 games are pretty tough/reggy these days, but are super fun to play in as they are uncapped and run really deepstacked.
Nice, sounds good! Haha GL getting a better balance this time but suppose if you're winning then it's all good! Gonna try and take advantage of the fact I don't need a package and play some seat only sats on Stars. Would like to have my seat won well in advance rather than a last chance hyper the night before like last year lol.

I wouldn't be playing above 1/2 for now so sounds decent! Will definitely try and push myself to put some more hours in at the cash tables though.

Thanks again!

I think ur SB winrate is pretty good and BB isn't horrific as u say. Remember that we are paying 50 and 100bb/100 in blinds from these positions, so it's nearly 'impossible' to profit there. There will also be a fair amount of variance for each positions, so we need a pretty big sample to make it say something.

Sicro, I noticed you at my tables the other day and see you don't always buy in full - is their a reason for that? I think a player of your ability is losing a lot of value by not buying in for 100bbs.

Fair enough, thanks for the advice!

I knew the blinds were most people "most losing/least winning positions" so wasn't super shocked to see my stats backed this up although I did think that -33bb/100 seemed like a lot. I'll admit I don't have any real idea what decent win rates for each position really work out at or "should" look like (Any ideas welcome!?)

As you touched on as well, I think I only have roughly 3/4k hands from each position anyway so I doubt the sample even means much if anything at this point.

Hey man! Thanks for the comment and advice. Always interested to hear from people I've played with!

I actually do always buy in full although I usually don't always have the auto top up on so sometimes have below 100bb in my stack.

There's no strategical reason behind it, honestly it's really just out of habit lol. I didn't have Hold em Manager until April. I never used the auto top up before that so as I knew how much I was up or down at the end of sessions. Obviously I have it now so can track my sessions on that but I still sometimes forget to sort the auto rebuy settings when I'm loading up tables since I never really used it before.

Coincidentally I've started using it more regularly recently but need to make sure I do it every session from now on!

Sorry for the lack of updates recently: Scotland's football failure aside it's been a brilliant last few days!

I'll try and do a full update tomorrow with last weeks graphs and some hands!

I've played precisely 0 hands of poker since Thursday night but it's been really nice. Had my best friend from school's wedding yesterday and it was a fantastic day all round.

Could play tonight but honestly I've been really enjoying the break and I'm knackered after yesterday so gonna give it a miss tonight then get back to Zoom after work tomorrow when I'm back to normality and feeling fresh

Just tried to put an update up (Have copied it so not lost it) but Hand History converter won't work...

Copied the hand from HM2 like I usually do then pasted it into the HH converter but comes up with red text saying conversion failed and something about spaces or special characters which aren't supported... Haven't changed anything from how I always paste hands in here... This happened to anyone else or any idea how to sort it?

Cheers in advance and I'll (finally!) get an update up when I get it sorted!

Hey guys! Firstly apologies that I haven't updated this in a while - real life getting in the way! Nothing bad I hasten to add, things have been good. Just busy with various things which has meant no time for poker. In addition to that my laptop has been playing up the past couple of days so have literally played 0 hands of zoom in the past week...

Slightly disappointing because I played nearly 8k hands in the first week of the month and was on course to make Goldstar for only the second time ever but oh well. It's still something I'd like to achieve again before the end of the year but I'm not going to lie, it's not a huge deal for me. Results wise the bankroll has been increasing and I feel like I'm playing well for the most part so that's the main thing!

I mentioned last week in the thread but the most exciting thing that's kept me off the tables is my best mate's wedding last Saturday. I was best man and really nervous for giving the speech but I'll be honest and say that when the time came I was surprisingly calm and think it went really well! People laughed when they were supposed to and quite a few people came up to me after and said it was really good so that was really encouraging and gave me a big confidence boost!

The day itself was great fun so that was a success all round. As a proud Scot, I'm ashamed to say it was also the first time I'd ever worn a kilt but I'm a new fan!

(Myself and the other ushers at the wedding, good friends with all 3 of them - I'm far left)

That's me and the gf, clearly later in the night when I'm more drunk lol.

Obviously not much to report hand wise since I haven't played but this was my biggest loser from last week...

I'd maybe 3bet pre sometimes but he's UTG playing 19/13 and I think going multiway with a hand this good is fine. Anyone ever fold when he overbet jams the river? 99 and KK are certainly in his range but figure he can have AA and worse flushes often enough to make calling OK? Not sure if it's just a cooler after a bad river or if I could get away though.

Actually the biggest pot I've won at 10NL since I started this blog. Obviously not particularly interesting discussion wise since it's pretty easy to click call when you river the nuts lol.

More interesting question I think is anyone like his river shove? Couldn't decide how I feel about it. He can have QJ too but dooooubt I'm ever folding sets. Honestly not sure. Although I'd fold all my 1 pair like JJ+ hands and have a decision with 2pair so if I'm folding everything worse than a set then maybe it's not bad? Don't really know tbh!

Upcoming goal:

Will definitely still be doing most of my volume at zoom but want to play more MTT's (especially live) and goal for the next couple of weeks is to secure a UKIPT seat for next month – yet to play a satellite so that needs to change! First attempt is likely to be Sunday night. Other than that only goals are get back to playing every day or at least most days and try and play my A game as much as possible with no spew!

I was gonna just snap call the river then managed to convince myself that I block AK and he might sigh call overpairs... but I block KK , it's not even a great board for AA by the end and he has all the TT/QQ combos too so think this is a pretty terrible jam. Definitely think I let tilt from the earlier hands affect my river decision here so felt really dumb after this!

Sessions have been going really well this week!

Bankroll is currently at $950 which is the peak it's been in a while, certainly since I last withdrew and I finally hit the 25k hand mark (25,621 to be exact)

After basically breaking even on my Sunday and Monday sessions I've had 2 big winning sessions the past couple of days, including my best day yesterday (in terms of pure $ won at zoom) since I started this thread

Actually found myself starting to feel tired and tempted to stop after just 700 hands today but decided to stick with it and try to get at least 1000 in which I've decided to set as my minimum target for each day now! Got there in the end but seem to find myself needing a break after an hour or so of four tabling zoom. Thought I played well throughout which was good but was probably slipping in to autopilot right at the end. Admittedly I'm not playing full time or even really for the money but have a long way to go until I'm like some of you guys and can manage thousands of hands a day!

Biggest winner yesterday: Not particularly interesting strategy wise but obviously nice to smash the turn and make decisions easy. I was actually planning to fold on some turns if he kept barreling and I didn't improve but spoiler: The J was not one of them Obv it is quite a cooler and I wasn't complaining although not entirely convinced his stack off is great with bottom set cause doubt I ever have worse when I take this line.

Couple of fun spots from today's session...

This was really early on. I checked turn for pot control. On reflection though, given how wet the board is then maybe b/f is better?

Anyway, just the old 7x pot jam lol... I snap folded and don't think it's close but WTF does he actually do this with? Assume Kx never does this so all I could really think was a ridiculously played Jx with no blockers to draws or a combo draw since if he has a boat surely he'd just bet for value? LOL either way though!

Hand 2

Biggest bluff of the day. Suspect some people will want to fold pre but deep and in position happy to see a flop here.

Flop float is probably on the overly optimistic side () but figure I have backdoor straight and flush draws and he'll likely slow down with his 99-KK hands if I call.

Think I have an easy bet OTT when he checks and I pick up a fd but with no show down value. River is interesting I think. I actually pretty rarely bluff shove rivers at these stakes but he checked quickly and I was pretty certain he had a big pair or weak Ax hand he wanted to showdown so was really capped. Went with my read and luckily got the fold.

Last hand for now and I think I may have messed this one up...

Not sure I love the call being out of position w/ 5high but getting 2:1 deep with suited connectors then I'm sure it can't be terrible.

Anyone raising flop? Obv we flop huge (and were actually favourite v his hand) but not sure if I want to bloat the pot given we're 150bb's deep and OOP

Turn I think is fun as well. We don't lose much equity and pick up an open ender to go with our pair and FD... Not sure what he'd do with KK or AA if I check raise turn... I have a load of 2pr/sets and 89cc in my range but suspect he still calls.

Most interesting decision imo though is can/should I bluff this river!?

From his point of view I can have Qx and I really wanted to open jam and try and get him to fold KK/AA... Not sure if randoms actually fold overpairs at 10NL though... Thoughts?

I tanked a bit then eventually bottled it thinking we very occasionally just win when has a double barreled AK or AX plus he can just have quads/AQ and snap me off or sigh call overpairs

Away from Zoom: Came 2nd at my pub poker game on Monday night, had KK cracked by 97 so got heads up with like 8bbs and it lasted one hand... Called an all in after looking at one card (A) but apparently I couldn't dodge bullets since he had AA and unsurprisingly held. Won a couple of weeks ago though so still put me back to the top of the league and think I have nationals sometime next month which is basically a freeroll with a few k added and a trip to Vegas for the winner so that'd be sweet...

Away from poker, my football team Hearts game at the weekend was live on TV. It was a pretty brutal match if I'm honest with little quality and the other team trying to kick us off the pitch but we managed to win 1-0 so that was pleasing and a win is a win!

I was back at the kids training last night after 2 weeks away when it hadn't been on for various reasons. Moved to a new venue which has floodlights since it's getting dark early these nights now and the new place seems pretty decent. New and good quality astroturf as opposed to dodgy grass pitches which are more dirt than grass. Biggest bonus though is that the goals are already set up and don't need put away at the end like at the last place which was always a hassle!

Got a lot going on in the next few days so not sure how much I'll get to play.

It's my 4 year anniversary with the GF tomorrow (time has flown!) Exciting times and going out for dinner at a steakhouse so should be a good night.

Then it's birthday central at the weekend. Got my mum's birthday on Friday. Got two friends who are a couple and share the same birthday (how weird is that!?) so that's on Saturday. Not totally sure what the script is but a group of us are going to some sort of outdoor adventure/laser tag place. Sounds pretty random and I haven't done lazer quest since I was a kid but could be pretty fun! Then out for lunch for my Gran's 91st birthday on Sunday!

Most exciting thing though is that I'm off to Berlin for a couple of days on Tuesday! Actually can't wait This is the present the GF got me for my Birthday last month and we've both been wanting to go for ages so excited the time is finally here!

So lot's going on but sure it'll be awesome. Will still squeeze in some zoom when I can although the volume may drop a bit over the next few days.

Ashamed to say I still haven't played a single UKIPT sat either so that's a goal for Sunday since I'm playing 5aside football tonight and I won't get a chance before then.

Will post up the full week's graph on Sunday too... Hopefully continuing the recent trend of it going upwards!

Just played possibly the most boring 90 minute session ever!

Literally don't think I was ever down more than a couple of $ or up more than 1 buy in over the entire session which lasted 1124 hands.

Only hand I even have marked at the moment is this one.

Poker Stars $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players

BTN: $10.32
SB: $11.75
BB: $10.66
UTG: $16.93
MP: $11.16
Hero (CO): $11.45

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is CO with 5 6
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.30, 1 fold, SB raises to $1, BB calls $0.90, Hero calls $0.70

Flop: ($3.00) 8 8 4 (3 players)
SB bets $1.54, BB calls $1.54, Hero calls $1.54

Turn: ($7.62) 6 (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks

River: ($7.62) 3 (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $4.30, SB folds, BB folds

Spoiler:
Final Pot: $7.62
Hero mucks 5c 6c
Hero wins $7.28
(Rake: $0.34)

Never folding pre getting > 3:1 in position. Flop is probably questionable/bad but I have a gutshot and a few backdoors and can potentially bluff later.

Think I should maybe start bluffing on the turn but not sure how often I get 2 folds and if I bet turn I think I then have to jam rivers so played it a bit safer. I coooould even have the best hand when I turn a pair although I kinda thought the BB had a 99-JJ type hand when he called twice.

When they both check the river to me I figure they have better than one pair basically never since boats and flushes would surely bet when the turn checks round. Also think I have a load of flushes and straights and maybe even 8X in my range which I can jam for value here so should be decently balanced.

Hand 2:

This was the biggest loser, think it played itself really though:

Literally 10 minutes into today's session and this is my graph so far...

Maybe could have got away from QQ v KK all in on a low flop for one buy in but safe to say I've run like poop for the rest anyway. Not going to bore everyone with bad beats cause I know nobody cares, just posting this more of a rant to myself cause I'm steaming harder than I have done in ages

Using this as a bit of tilt relief and going to hit the tables again now. Redeemed my $50 stellar reward though so basically even for the session if I look at it that way...

Edit: Ok F this. I'm done for now before I tilt my balls off. Definately letting tilt get to me and since I made this post I've lost AK to A7 AIPF , AdQx to 88 on 8QXQddd and had my turned nut straight counterfeited to chop on the river. Down 6 buy in's in 326 hands... Want to get volume in but think it's better I quit when I'm clearly steamed than chase losses and spew off more

Thanks Original plan was to try 25NL again when I reach the $1k mark which would hopefully have been this weekend although last couple of sessions haven't been great so put me off a bit confidence wise. Definitely ran bad but probably not played my best either so gonna try and get back on it soon when I feel like I'm playing well again.

I'm actually winning at 25NL although only over a 12k hand sample so probably doesn't mean much. Decided I'll only two table it at least initially though so I play less on autopilot.

Looking to play at least a session or two within the next week.

Thanks man, appreciate it! I'd need to check HM2 but assume we've played together at some point based on your thread

Won like 1.5 buys ins this evening. Would have been better but had AA cracked by QQ AIPF like 3rd last hand of session for 200bbs so that was annoying... Gonna happen though I guess.

On the bright side just had my first 3k+ hand day ... Although annoyingly it's by far my worst day results wise since I started this (-4.5 buy ins) given the morning disaster!

Been grinding for 3 hours tonight so will deal with things in more detail in a big update tomorrow!

OK so last updated this after Thursday's session, think I mentioned that was me and the GF's 4 year anniversary. Was a really good night and went out for steak which was delicious! Got my fav dessert sticky toffee pudding after too but no pic of that lol.

Didn't get a chance to play at all on Friday with work and my mum's birthday. Went over to her house for a special meal and was all pretty quiet but a nice visit and she had a good day all round so that was nice

Saturday I was at Edinburgh Combat Challenge for a couple of mates birthday's. I knew it was kind of like outdoor lazer tag but since I hadn't been to that since I was a kid and that was some indoor dark room then I really went in with no idea what to expect... It was absolutely awesome haha. Best way to describe it is like paintball with lazer guns but way more fun than I expected and would def do it again! Sadly my team lost and no pics but would def reccommend!

OK onto the poker...

This is my graph for the last few days... While I'm pleased with the volume (Yesterday was my first ever 3k hand day!) Safe to say I'm less than pleased with the results...

I've run like **** which is frustrating but can't do anything about that so kind of tilted because I've been way off my A game and was def starting to let tilt get to me.

Had KK v AA like 4 times and genuinely starting to wonder if getting 100bbs in with KK at 10z is optimal. Like obv it can't be terrible but seems like some people's 4bet range is literally AA and maybe KK...

Anyway various other gross beats and coolers but don't want this to turn into a bad beat rant post so moving on!

So confession time, while I'm not rolled for it at all I decided to play 100nl zoom today... Partly just for fun and cause I was a bit tilted at 10NL... Also decided to make Goldstar this month and won't get to play again until Friday so needed the quicker VPP's...

Groooooooss!

Results wise... Things did not go well...

Actually have really mixed feelings about this. Obviously very painful results wise but I 2 tabled, didn't autopilot and genuinely felt like I played pretty well in my 2-3 hour session and didn't even tilt after the hand above somehow. Would have been pretty close to even bar the 1 outer lol.

Anyway won't be playing that high again for a while but made for a change of pace. Just annoyed I couldn't hold the baby when it would have been nice...

(Before I get totally flamed I fully realise playing 100NL w/ a 8 buy in or whatever roll is not optimal haha. I can easily redeposit if need be so there's no risk of actually going busto although obviously that's worst case scenario and I would be extremely life tilted if I managed to spew off 1k > 0 in a week!)

Cliffs: Lots of hands in last few days, run like ****, played a mixture of between well and spew monkey tilt.

End result of all this is that the bankroll has taken a pounding and is basically halved to $500ish so will be stuck at 10NL for a bit longer

On the bright side, got the social pub donkament tonight to blow off steam and then off to Berlin for a couple of days in the morning! Sorry for the lack of hands this time, I've been playing basically every chance I get the last few days and haven't reviewed much yet.

What do people think is the best ways to use FPPs btw? I have about 10k and will be Goldstar. Is cash reward the best? ($75 for about 6k I think) or is there a better way to go?

Will try and get some interesting pics while I'm away then get back to studying and posting hands when I have more time. Quite glad for a few days off given recent results tbh! Hopefully I can come back fresh, de-tilted and then get outta this downswing and back on track!

Good that you can take the beats at 10x the usual stake and the QQ hand pretty sick!

Went to Berlin this time last year, you will enjoy it, so cheap but i couldn't figure out the nightlife!

Best way to spend fpp's until you get to supernova are the fpp sit and go's and then transfer the tournament money on www.selltdollars.com for 99pc value

Been busy so not played at all yet this month but will be back to the grind today

In the mean time, here's my review for the last month...

October Results

Summary

-$105.99 in 28, 262 hands.

Vast majority of volume (24,655 hands) at 10NL with some 25 and 100NL mixed in during the last week when tilting and in search of quick VPPs. (1919 hands at 25NL and 1688 at 100NL)

Review

Positives

Relatively happy volume wise:

At the start of October I set myself a goal of 20k during the month and achieved this with quite a while to spare. Averaged close to 1k hands a day for the month as a whole and given there was an 8 day spell in the middle of the month where I didn't play a single hand of poker, plus three days during the last week when I was away on holiday then it works out closer to 1500 hands per day on the days I played.

Managed a few 2k+ hand days and my first ever 3k+ during October. In addition I also made it to Goldstar for only the 2nd time ever.

Thought I played well for the majority of my 10NL grind

I was actually very happy with my play at 100NL. Being honest I'd assume that I'm not currently a winning player at 100NL+. That said, I didn't feel like scared money or out of my depth or anything while playing. Bar being 1 outered in a 250bb pot that I posted last week I'd have been well ahead $ wise. In addition I was extremely pleasantly surprised how calmly I shrugged off that beat. I didn't rage quit the session, start spewing off buy ins and honestly just kind of smirked to myself rather than smashing my laptop

Ok now time for the Negatives...

May as well start with the obvious. Given this was my first full month since I started this thread and began grinding more regularly then it was frustrating to get off to a losing start.

While I said earlier I thought I played relatively well for most of the lower stakes grind and having just mentioned not letting tilt affect me when I was playing for 10x the stakes then I was definitely monkey tilting at 10NL after running KK into AA for something like the 6th time in 2 days... Obviously this is ridiculous since if I can shrug off worse beats for far bigger portions of the bankroll then why was I tilting so hard at standard coolers like this?

It's weird because I'll be fine sometimes then super tilty at other times. I have absolutely no idea why this is but clearly my tilt control definitely needs work.

While I mentioned that I was happy with (most of) my 10 and 100NL grinds I didn't mention the 25NL sessions and in truth that's because I thought I played horrifically and way below myself here. Pretty sure that most of the losses came from here and next time I play I'll probably at least start off just 2 or 3 tabling it to try and pay better attention and avoid auto piloting.

UKIPT Edinburgh is now this month and I still haven't played a single satellite. It's hard to find the time since I have live poker on Monday nights and then playing football Wednesday nights and coaching the kids football on Tuesday and Thursdays which only really leaves the weekend when a lot of the time I have stuff on but I'm still determined to try and make some time to dedicate to this.

Overall Results to date

+227.11 in 51,215 hands
3.28bb/100

(Over three stakes but majority is at .5/10)

Disappointing overall because a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd be playing 25NL soon but roll has taken a pounding which unfortunately means I'll still be playing 10NL this month but hopefully I can start running good again, get the green line going back in the right direction and then that will change!
