$10k Journey - Month 1 Report

Profit +$1066

Profit Graph:

PT4:

HM:

Hands played: 11400
Hours played: 77

I am extremely happy with these results considering that I have been break-even at HUNL50 for over a year. However the sample is small so I cannot draw too many conclusions from the result. I have had a $1000 winning streak before although that was over at least twice as many hands.

I was hoping to move up soon but have had to withdraw money due to an unforeseen circumstance so it is NL50 for at least another 20 buy-ins.

I do expect to win consistently at NL50 (variance permitting) from now on due to a much better understanding of the game (from studying Gordon's intermediate level videos) and more importantly due to a massive leap in my mindset towards money. Hopefully that will prove to be the single biggest thing that was holding me back.

In the last 6 weeks I have further defined my purpose in life (which was already strongly defined) and have realised the importance of money in achieving my purpose. Because of this I expect (and demand) a big increase in my growth right now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here I will show 2 hands that I played last night which showed to me how my money attitude has changed...

First hand is somewhat standard...

BB: $18.40 (36.8 bb)
Hero (SB): $62.25 (124.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A K
Hero raises to $1.50, BB raises to $2.50, Hero raises to $7.50, BB raises to $18.40 and is all-in, Hero calls $10.90

Flop: ($36.80) 9 A 3 (2 players, 1 is all-in)
Turn: ($36.80) Q (2 players, 1 is all-in)
River: ($36.80) 5 (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results: $36.80 pot ($0.50 rake)
Final Board: 9 A 3 Q 5
BB showed 5 5 and won $36.30 ($17.90 net)
Hero showed A K and lost (-$18.40 net)

My thoughts in this hand went "50/50. Yes! Damn! I will win my money back and all of his money - I am a better player.".

2 months ago my thoughts would have been "I will probably lose this flip. Oh no I am going to win and that's not fair. Oh I lost, it's better that he wins the money. Never mind, this is normal for me anyway. It is only money after all."

Second hand, same villain, within 1 minute...

Hero (BB): $50.65 (101.3 bb)
SB: $35.55 (71.1 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 5 A
SB completes, Hero checks

Flop: ($1) 3 5 5 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.75, SB raises to $35.05 and is all-in, Hero calls $34.30

Turn: ($71.10) K (2 players, 1 is all-in)
River: ($71.10) 9 (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results: $71.10 pot ($0.50 rake)
Final Board: 3 5 5 K 9
Hero showed 5 A and lost (-$35.55 net)
SB showed 9 9 and won $70.60 ($35.05 net)

Thoughts in hand... "LOL. LOL. Holy ****!! I need to reload quickly because this guy is super terrible. I will win money from this guy so long as I keep playing solid. Let's go!"

6 weeks ago thoughts: "9? 9? Yep. Oh well, never mind it is only money."

It is totally different for me now. I alluded to this once before either with coach or in blog many months ago - this (previous) lack of feeling towards the passing back and forth of money. It is a work in progress and you would probably not believe how much work I put into this every day but it is work I enjoy and it is work that will help me to fulfil my purpose and my desires.

Keep the faith friends. And keep dreaming.

Doesn't seem like the ideal mindset at all. But it seems like a mix of your mindsets will work wonders.

For instance, in the first hand you got it in with a flip. But then you proclaim yourself a better player. It's a flip. You lose 55% of the time. Not saying it's the wrong play, just saying that mindset is terrible.

The second hand, if you combine both of your thought processes into one, then you receive the proper mindset. Something like "I got the money in way good and this guy sucked out. If I continue to play optimally, I will make a profit in the long run."

Nice to see your improvements though!

Just thought I would pop in today to say I played like an idiot last night!!!

I was fortunate to end up only $40 down (thanks to TT>AA AI pre for $30 pot).

It was a day where maybe I should not have played. My brain was overworked yesterday and although warm-up and meditation etc was good I never got into the right frame of mind (exhaustion).

HOWEVER! I noticed that my "go to" game (which always appears when tired/tilting) is still way too passive. I think this has crept back into my game over the last few days - this waiting to make hands rather than attacking pots and putting villains out of their comfort zone.

So, hopefully something good comes of this bad play and I can get aggressive again and crush

Up $22 for the two days (thanks to 2 Sky Poker tagfish who could not fold weak 2 pair to 3 barrel on super wet boards).

Played much better last night. Still had to "force" myself to play aggressive. Never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to get back into weak habits. Maybe low volume means I don't repeat things I learn enough for them to get truly ingrained. Will work on that.

$10k Journey

Well the general trend is still upwards! Samples so small difficult to be too sure what is going on but hopefully spotting that passive tilt will help me shoot up again!

Other stuff

STILL the last house has not gone through! Maybe there is a hitch somewhere.

Life is great. I need to be careful not to rush some things sometimes but on the whole I am rocking it!!!

Have a good few days amigos!

------------------------------------------------

Here is an article I have been working on for my website blog. It is not perfect, I am not a writer (yet). But hopefully it will give you some pointers if you are looking to make change and improve your life...

Taking Control Of Your Life #1 - Self Image.

Question: Do you think that when Usain Bolt puts his size 13’s in the starting block he is thinking about coming 2nd (or 3rd or 4th or 8th for that matter)?

Or what about Robert Downey Jnr? When he is making a scene for his latest blockbuster do you think he has any thought about flunking his lines or putting in an average performance?

How do you think about your own performance/success in everything you do?

“But Chris”, I hear you say, “I can’t possibly compare my thought process to the fastest man on earth and the highest paid actor on the planet!”

Yes, I know you can’t. You wouldn’t be reading this if you could, you would be training for the Olympics or preparing for your next film shoot!

But you should. And because you can’t think like that at the moment, you should spend a lot of time finding out how you can start to think like that. Or of course you can carry on being mediocre - the power to choose your thoughts is a god given talent and this choice is all yours.

Matter of fact: If you are expecting results that exceed your own self image then you are relying on luck (in other words, if you even contemplate coming 8th you’ve got almost zero chance of finishing first ).

How to improve your self image and set yourself up for greatness.

Step one: Realise what your self image is right now.

WARNING: Please do not ignore this step. Missing this step is the biggest reason I spent 35 years as a professional idiot (although if we had a better education system then I might have learned it by the age of ten).

This step is tough. You need to get really honest with yourself and write out all your mental images of yourself. I want you to write out what your self image is for your weight; your finances; your career; when you will retire; what financial security means to you; your health; your love life; your friendships; your achievements etc etc.

You should write out what those images are of yourself NOW and then in another column write out your images of what you think you will be in 3 years, 10 years, 20 years etc. NOT WHAT YOU HOPE THEY WILL BE - but what you think the reality is.

My guess is that (if you can be honest) your self images are fairly low and do not excite you that much?

The problem here is almost always conditioning (incorrect beliefs) and not being willing to expand the comfort zone (which means your dreams do not excite you enough to change and probably goes back to incorrect beliefs again! Read my article here).

You must now make another list. This time list your habits that are restricting you or that make you who you are. For example “I am single because I do not socialise or meet enough people”; “I am overweight because I snack between meals”; “My career is stagnant because I procrastinate with my learning and with my tasks”.

So, now you have lists of your self image and the habits and beliefs that are keeping you where you are.

Step 2: Make a new self image!

Now the fun starts! You must think about what you want your self image to be. Do not rush this and do not fall into the stupid trap of being “realistic”! Being “realistic” is why you are mediocre - we are not looking to be realistic and comfortable here, we are looking to improve, advance, increase, grow, be something more. So let’s go right ahead and be ambitious!!!

Make your new self image the exact opposite of what your self image is now. Really, you have got to go big here and make this the new vision of yourself. We are looking to make change so there is no point in making it somewhere in between, really go for it and make it what you would really love to be like.

Write it out and go into every minute detail. Picture in your mind what it will be like to be this new person, what it will feel like to have made this change, what fantastic things will now be in your life. Write it down too but pictures and feelings are the most important things.

Also in this part start to think of some new habits that you think would help you to become the person you are going to be. For instance, if you want to find love then you need to start going to places where you can meet people and find your perfect partner.

Step 3: Make It Real

Now you need to go through a process of making this self image real. Basically we are going to take steps to make this new self image such a certainty in your subconscious mind that it will in fact gradually become the new you.

Remember in my article about limiting beliefs I discussed your old bad self image/beliefs and how you only got that through constant bad conditioning? That things that were happening in your upbringing, education etc constantly told you to have those negative beliefs until they just became a part of you and what you are today?

Well now we are going to reprogramme. Make the new self image part of you. Keep putting this new self image into your subconscious mind until it becomes your natural state and way of life.

It will be fun!

Stay tuned for the next article when I will give you some ways of planting the new you into your subconscious mind.

For now take these things away from this so far:-
  • Your results are equal to your self image.
  • Your self image is flawed by bad conditioning.
  • You can change your self image.
  • It is YOU that must make the change.
  • Make the new image a direct conflict of your old self image.

Go big!

Have fun dreaming! I know I am!

Other Stuff

Think this will be the last mortgage this broker arranges for me!!! Still no real progress!

Really working hard on mindset (and it seems to be working). Amazes me how terrible how I was in this area - totally passive and so many underlying negative beliefs were controlling my life. The thing was I was kind of contented (because I have always been a positive person) so never felt much need to do anything about it. But lately I found more purpose and direction in life and realise I have so much untapped potential.

Seems sinful to live an average life to me now.

Felt like I got a bit crushed at the tables last night and was slightly tilting due to losing couple of 60bb hands seconds after I told myself to quit for the night (was already long session for me).

Just done a quick review and I ran pretty bad so feel a bit happier now

Could somebody with a bigger brain than me (that's all of you) just comment on these for me please...?

1.

SB: €19.50
Hero (BB): €61.47

SB posts SB €0.25, Hero posts BB €0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: €0.75) Hero has A T

SB calls €0.25, Hero raises to €2.00, SB calls €1.50

Flop: (€4.00, 2 players) Q 3 2
Hero bets €2.00, SB calls €2.00

Turn: (€8.00, 2 players) 5
Hero bets €5.60, SB raises to €11.20, Hero calls €5.60

River: (€30.40, 2 players) 4
Hero checks, SB bets €4.30, Hero calls €4.30

SB shows 8 J (Flush, Jack High)
(Pre 40%, Flop 47%, Turn 84%)
Hero mucks A T (Straight, Five High)
(Pre 60%, Flop 53%, Turn 16%)
SB wins €38.00

Anything different here? She just joined me with 40bb. Turn is nuts line, I call with NFD because odds and save 8bb by not jamming, then cannot fold straight. Seems std to me but just need brain help!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

2.

Hero (SB): €50.32
BB: €30.89

Hero posts SB €0.25, BB posts BB €0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: €0.75) Hero has T A

Hero raises to €1.50, BB calls €1.00

Flop: (€3.00, 2 players) 9 3 A
BB checks, Hero bets €1.42, BB raises to €4.84, Hero calls €3.42

Turn: (€12.68, 2 players) 4
BB bets €12.00, Hero calls €12.00

River: (€36.68, 2 players) J
BB bets €12.55 and is all-in, Hero calls €12.55

BB shows A 3 (Two Pair, Aces and Threes)
(Pre 30%, Flop 73%, Turn 80%)
Hero shows T A (One Pair, Aces)
(Pre 70%, Flop 27%, Turn 20%)
BB wins €60.78

7th hand, she joined with 60bb. Flop super polarized imo so I decide to call down keep BS in, again seems std to me.

---------------------------------------------------------

3.

Hero (SB): €56.39
BB: €35.89

Hero posts SB €0.25, BB posts BB €0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: €0.75) Hero has Q K

Hero raises to €1.50, BB calls €1.00

Flop: (€3.00, 2 players) 4 5 Q
BB checks, Hero bets €2.13, BB calls €2.13

Turn: (€7.26, 2 players) 6
BB checks, Hero bets €3.43, BB calls €3.43

River: (€14.12, 2 players) 9
BB checks, Hero checks

BB shows 7 6 (Flush, Queen High)
(Pre 37%, Flop 37%, Turn 45%)
Hero mucks Q K (One Pair, Queens)
(Pre 63%, Flop 63%, Turn 55%)
BB wins €13.34

She looks like a fish. What betsize do you use on turn? One minute I think "go big for value from pair with diamond" then the camp passive part of me says "he will call wider if you bet smaller". Maybe 3/4 with strong Qx and this size with weak Qx?

Hello KP

i just read trough the entire 21 pages (100 posts a page) of this thread in a week

i gotta say its been a real journey for you
its very intresting to see the ups and downs and to read a part of a person's life like that in a week really shows how people can change

and i gotta say Thank you for making this thread
the first few pages where super inspiring seeing your work ethic and your commitment to go where you wanna be

also very intresting to read how (it seems to me) you lost touch with yourself and your real goal when you signed up with CFP program and how liberated you seem after you dropped your contract

after completing these 21 pages i have no doubt in my mind that you will not achieve your goal of making 10k for your vacation time and i have the feeling you really found good balance in pushing yourself while being realistic in why you want to achieve your goals

as a family man myself you inspired me to start up my own project to reach a certain goal in poker and i just want to say thank you again and wish you well with your endeavours and family

Hi Retsam,

Thanks for the kind words in there, really means a lot to me.

I think you have hit the nail on the head on a few points there. When I got onto the CFP programme I really thought that it would make me into a big winner at poker. It did not go that way for me at all and it is not a strategy problem. Unfortunately that is probably the missing part of BPC at the moment - the ability to help with mental issues (although the new HU Head Coach M1ndCrtl could very well be their answer - he is good).

You are correct - the relief for me once I decided to leave was immense. My results have improved dramatically (still small sample) and I can only see progress for me in poker.

I must still maintain that that 13 month period will almost certainly prove to be the making of me in that I think I found the missing parts of my puzzle. It is just a bit of a shame I have to go and sort my problems elsewhere!

Thanks again for your post, I hope you find greatness in your endeavours too. It is inside all of us.

Feel like I am playing well. Mindset is fair and these swings certainly test emotional control! I am still having to force myself to be aggressive in some spots. Still working hard on my money mindset - seems it will take a while

I was so close to playing some NL100 this weekend, even opened a table. Roll is just too thin still. Will target this in December.

I have found out that loads more people have left BPC coaching for profits before making their 60k which makes me feel somewhat better for leaving! I mean, leaving for me was a no brainer but some of these guys improved quite a lot so I am surprised to be honest. Kinda intrigued.

related to money that I am now working too hard again and not resting well. Also my meditation has possibly gone too money orientated and I am not relaxing there either. However, I think I have had another major life aha moment so I am not going to make any rash adjustments for a day or two.

Other Stuff

I am on the brink of another piece of self discovery and am not sure how much to say about it!

I have an amazing ability to be positive and to be happy. This is something I have noticed only over the last few years so I cannot be sure right now whether it is something I have learned or something I have always possessed (I strongly suspect learned due to my "problems" in earlier life). One of my very close family friends once said that I can see good in everything and ignore the bad. Other people have said similar.

More and more in life I see that people generally do not have that ability and in fact see the worst in things before seeing any good at all. I have read that it is our human nature and we are actually set up to fear and doubt in order to protect ourselves. I struggle to believe that but I cannot deny it.

Anyway, I waffle! I truly believe that I am blessed somehow. Don't ask me how or even why I should think that. I am not comparing myself to anyone or trying to tell you anything. I just wonder if there is anything I can do to help people enjoy life as much as I do. If I could do that well that would really make me even more happy and maybe make the world a little bit happier!

Please let me know if you think I can help you.

Have a great day friends.

General Stuff

I spent a lot of time working on my limiting beliefs towards money and I think I am coming out on the other side of it now

Interesting thing is I spent a lot of time on this (maybe too much) and in an effort to remove the limiting beliefs I was a little close to getting involved with a mindset that without money one is some sort of failure or is not realising potential (because that is the story people are SELLING).

That's the wrong way around.

Once you find peace in yourself, which means peace in your mind and heart, then there are no limits to your capabilities. Everything you want will come to you as you give value and give it willingly and with passion.

I know far too many wealthy people to even contemplate that money brings happiness. Many of them are very stressed and sad and lonely and definitely nowhere near to feelings of fulfilment.

Please don't get me wrong here. Money is an extremely valuable commodity. To expand your mind, body and soul money is going to help a lot!!

I just want to reinforce that I truly believe it is better to get your mind and your heart in order first. Doing that will bring you a stillness that will then allow you to find real happiness and then what comes after is easy. Living a life where you believe money, position, power or authority will bring you happiness just looks backwards and a whole lot of pain and suffering to me.

If that is what you do believe (and I feel that it is extremely likely most people do believe that because that is how society is and how we are sold to), I invite you to spend some time just asking yourself if it is really like that. Keep asking. Don't believe everything that is in your mind as I believe what likely planted it there has no idea what real happiness is. In fact if you want to really "become" then I invite you to question practically every thought and belief that you have!

I hope you have a great day and a great weekend amigos.

Edit: Happiness (to me) is not a fleeting emotion. It is a way of life. Hop on board!

1. Third hand

BB: €49.25 (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 2)
Hero (SB): €50.75

Hero posts SB €0.25, BB posts BB €0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: €0.75) Hero has T J

Hero raises to €1.00, BB raises to €3.00, Hero calls €2.00

Flop: (€6.00, 2 players) 2 3 9
BB bets €4.50, Hero calls €4.50

Turn: (€15.00, 2 players) J
BB bets €9.00, Hero calls €9.00

River: (€33.00, 2 players) 7
BB bets €32.75, Hero ???

I think this is an easy call but it is worst hand I would call I don't know if fact I have 2 diamonds affects decision at all here).

------------------------------------------------------

2. Second hand

Hero (BB): €50.50
SB: €20.50 (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 1)

SB posts SB €0.25, Hero posts BB €0.50

Pre Flop: (pot: €0.75) Hero has 5 7

SB calls €0.25, Hero checks

Flop: (€1.00, 2 players) K 7 5
Hero bets €1.50, SB calls €1.50

Turn: (€4.00, 2 players) 9
Hero bets €3.50, SB calls €3.50

River: (€11.00, 2 players) T
Hero bets €7.79, SB raises to €15.00 and is all-in, Hero ???

I only need to be good 1 in 5.5ish times and sometimes they shove their stack in light in desperation so I think call is ok.

First hand easy call unless you have reads. 2nd hand- I would just never donk flops in general unless you're play a mega passive fish.

If he limps balanced your range is actually way weaker in limped pots on that flop than raised. If you don't donk 75 in raised pots, why would you donk in limped?

Thanks for sharing mate. Definitely dome stuff in there that will help people.

He is a bit of a "there's no weeds, there's no weeds" kind of a guy which can be helpful short term.

Almost everyone has tonnes of dis-empowering thoughts. Sometimes it is good to prove them wrong rather than ignore them.

However I also massively agree with him that there is a huge self help industry out there conning people into believing they are worse off then they really are.

Thanks again mate, always appreciate stuff like this and found it interesting.
