I just did a bit of research on the OP: http://www.sharkscope.com/#Player-St...ayers/vanlakos

Looks like for his first 35,000 games (stretching over a course of 4 years), he was breakeven. Didn't make any money at all (ok, might have made a small amount in rakeback).

Then when he started this thread, he played 7,000 games, losing $17,000 in approximately 1 year 3 months, before eventually giving up.

He's an excellent example of motivation alright, if you judge motivation by number of games played. He sure as **** is not a good example of how to win at poker. In fact, he's a great example of how to lose thousands of $$$ at poker. He begun in 2008, and still a losing player - how can you play for poker for so long, take the game so seriously, and still not win? It baffles me.

Wonder if he ever paid back the people who staked him (I notice he said he was staked on the first page).

I personally thought he just played to high, and his backers didn't really care fwiw. Such a shame though, because when i started poker and joined 2p2 i really loved this thread. Probably moved on to something worth the time for him.

No idea why you felt the need to post this

This, he would've made money at a lower abi for sure. Loved reading this thread too but GL to OP in whatever he is pursuing

I posted it because I noticed a lot of people worshipping the OP for his motivation. So I presented some cold hard facts that show the OP is a losing player, and a pretty big losing player at that.

Technically yes the OP does have "motivation", if you want to put it that way, but I prefer to call it delusion. He's been playing since 2008 and he's still a losing player. 8 years playing poker and still can't win.

You say he would've made money at a lower average buy-in - well this is simply not true. He didn't make any money for his first 35,000 games, which were all at a lower average buy-in. He moved up in stakes and got crushed.

It's not even variance either - a 42,000 sample size is more than enough to determine you're a losing player.

My guess now is that the OP has moved on in life, moved away from poker and is pursuing something he may actually be successful at. Poker obviously wasn't working for him.

Try to analize his sharkscope first. Playing HU sits he is a break even player, right. If you look to MTTS and filter only lower stakes and Midstakes ( max 55$ buy in) after 8000 games he is winning 4$ for each MTT, which its not bad at all. If you look he is dropping money at high stakes. Probably he doesnt have edge at these level or simple running bad at those stakes.

he was delusional about playing all the 109 215s 109r etc on stars. it's a shame bc he def was inspirational and had a lot of heart for sure.

Instead of just posting a person his entire graph, atleast take the time to look at the games he was playing. And people liked OP, because he had some really fun updates and content in general in his thread.
