Little background on myself:
21yr old college student studying accounting and finance (priority)
Poker Enthusiast - especially into theory (perhaps even more than playing)
This Spring I'll be taking a tax internship that should free up my evenings to play some poker and grind up some extra cash hopefully. There is also a charitable expo every week that I'll be attending to play some live cash games (I love Live
).
I got into poker roughly two years ago. It started as a thing to do with friends, and then a unhealthy obsession to get better at it. I took time to focus on my studies, but now am ready to get back in the grind as I'll have more free time this spring and would like to focus on live poker, but intend on playing Bovada on the weekdays to hone my poker skills.
Current Poker Results
7 Online Deposits: First five were $100 on ACR and I essentially went busto every time being an aggro spewtard
6th Deposit was $50, and I grinded it up to $450 playing a mix of 2NL,5NL, and 10NL on ACR (mostly 2&5NL). Cashed that sucker out, because I was taking a shot live (lol bankroll probs). That went well actually and I made just under 9k last summer basically running like God and coolering people left and right. Unfortunately due to a minor car accident, that wasn't so minor financially I lost 4k
.
7th Deposit was $150 on Bovada and $150 on ACR. ACR I got 3rd in a mtt for $850ish while drunk showing my friends how you could actually play online poker still and have since cashed that out for college books/food etc. Bovada roll went busto playing too high, and justifying it by saying I make enough live to cover it.
Live Poker has been friendly to me so far, but I semi-understand the variance that comes along with it. I have had decent success, and I mainly attribute it to luck along with a goodish playing style I have worked on immensely.
The Goal for the Spring
Online
Deposit $450 into Bovada and initially play 10nl strictly (no mtt's)
Identify leaks in my game and get support from community in this endeavor
Have a roll for 50nl by end of internship
Get coaching if need be
Live
Go the Charitable Expo Games as many weekends as I can
Play 1/1 and 1/3 cash games and try to continue the rungood
Focus on developing my reads and getting as good at exploitative play as possible
Identify the spots I am obviously too weak-tight, and also spots I'm leaking money in (preflop is the first place to look in my game).
Studying, Bankroll, etc.
Current Roll: 5kish (Internship pays rather handsomely, but I'd rather save most of that and put a decent chunk into my IRA)
I'm currently a member of Crush Live Poker, and I've really enjoyed their content (shoutout). Used to be a member of DC, but I've downloaded most of their content, and use it primarily for training my 6-max online game. I will say that DC taught me so much so quickly it is totally worth it if anyone is interested.
Finally, even though I plan on posting in this thread regularly when 2016 rolls around, my primary focus is on performing in my job. If at any point I feel like poker is hindering my progress in the real-world, I'll have to set my priorities straight. I don't have an addictive personality, nor am I particularly compulsive, so I don't forsee this being an issue.
tldr; I'm another 21yr old who wants to play more poker.... go figure
