4/3/2016 "If I didn't suck at tournaments today would be pretty nice"

Did well on the cash game front, with the majority volume 50NL, with some 100NL sprinkled in. Busted $290 in tourneys... lost a flip in the special to get like 130th

#1: Think jamming pre against this villain too thin, think I was calling any non A or K turn.

4/7/2016: "100k Hands is hard"

Not running well at all this month, but overall happy with my game. Played a mix of 50 and 100NL last night with a short session of 200 NL to cap the night.
Currently at 22.5k hands for the month, gonna grind today before taking a nice day off tomorrow.

Hands!

#3: Possible mistake, me and villain who's reggish are pretty deep. I think my 5 bet range this deep is face up, so I elect to flat. But is a small 5 bet better where he can still make a mistake better. He had kings so think I got least value, Think I should have Aces in my 4 bet flatting range but not sure optimal play here.

AA hand as played is fine. The 6 combo of AA is the only hand you're happy 5bet getting it in, and you will need to protect a lot of JJ-QQ, AQ-AK and suited connectors which are getting a great price to see a flop. As played I'd bet turn, he's giving up a lot when he checks this flop and you don't want to give free equity to a KQ w/ gutter.

This is a great board for our 4bet flatting range and I expect villain to give up with almost everything and underbluff a ton. We just have too many Great bluffcatcher blockers like AK and AQ. We can probably 2/3 turn with an overbet and jam 2/3 river with our whole range.

Mid-Month Report:

Been basically BE at 50NL, and won a bit at 100/200 NL. The RB at Stars is infinitely better than the other sites even if the games are more reggy.

I have a few more thousand hands on Party but definitely behind pace for the 100k hands this month, gonna have to kick it in gear.

On the bright side, had my best online tourney finish tonight, got 4th in the WSOP 40k for 3.8k, so the month is looking quite well!

#1: Not too many hands on villain but he had squeezed a few times and used quite big sizing. I think flatting works well and strengthens my 3bet calling range.

#8: Interesting hand against two regs, with the button being quite a good TAG. I really hate cold calling his 3bet with JJ OOP as it really caps my range, and folding jacks seems too nitty. I think if I get jammed I should fold as it's QQ+ which I'm only about 37%equity. So I decided to 4b/f.

Good reg on button calls and on a wet board I do think I need to go quite big for protection. Anyone's insight on this hand would be appreciated.

It's way easier to only have a 4bet range than splitting this spot in a coldcall 3bet and 4bet range. Preflop you might want to go a bit bigger to 23-24bb, 4.5:1 with position is too good a price.

Flop is a clear c/c when this board favors the caller and we also tremendously block his continuing range with top set. If we assign ourselves JJ+, AJs+, and AKo+, this board is pretty bad and we only have 3 combos (JJ) of hands that is stronger than 1 pair.

Yeah thinking about it more think my lead is a pretty big mistake and I should be checking the majority (if not all) of my range here, as I would be checking Aces and Kings on this texture at a pretty high frequency.

Thanks for the input!

That's all for today. Sattied the Sunday Special so hopefully can keep up some tourney run good. Month is looking quite good, +5k with about a week left

Had a productive but unsatisfying Sunday.

Wasn't in the mood to play cash so I fired up a bunch of tournaments to grind.

Went very deep in the 50k and was 2nd in chips with 10 left, where I believe I had an edge over the majority of players left (including two big fish). Unfortunately, I misplayed about 4 hands quite badly that I think cost me huge ladders for the money. 12k was up top and I ended up finished 10th for $938. (sattied in for $10 on the bright side)

FT another 10k where I didn't play well and sunrunned.

These scores would be really nice so I can move out of my parent's house lol.

Couldn't sleep so grinded out about 1300 hands at 100/200 NL. Games were suppppperrrr good, but could only squeak out a $150 win.

Overall booked about a $1,000 day but definitely kicking myself over some hands

#5: Against same villain who checked back aces... overall this kind of play is fishy but it was quite a loose passive table and thought may get a lot of dead money in the pot for me. When I limp 3 bet think my range is basically KK+/AK. So really hate villains ship with queens especially FR.

#6: Intersting hand...I don't mind my play as when villain raises flop he only has about 10 combos of value (sets + 2pr) and a lot of bluffs and should never have any overpairs. Villain was a bit tight though, so I guess it's marginal overall.

Ending the month today as I'm going down to Ocean City for the weekend to see an old lady friend.

78k hands for the month for a new volume record but came short of the 100k prop bet I had. (Thankfully the other guy didn't get it either ! )

Could not win at 50NL and doing a review I seemed to play a lot of C game. Thankfully I played well when I played 100/200.

By Stake: (50NL is my kryptonite)

Did well on the tournament front as well. $3,345

With RB, profit for month: $6,126

May will be a slow start to the month volume wise as I have a few trips planned, but will grind hard from about the 10th on. Will put in a bit more tourney volume in with NJ SCOOP as well.

Woo nice month, grats! Pokerstars 50NL has some tough lineups during peak hours so that might be why. The 100nl is surprisingly much softer.

Few Updates on Poker and Life:

1.) After talking to a lot of people about it and going over my financials, I will be attending my first full time WSOP this summer. I'm very excited as I have a condo within walking distance of the strip at a pretty great price. I think I'll play two tournaments (Colossus +milly maker/monster stack) which I'll sell action for.

Financially, it might not be the super +EV with extra expenses, but definitely +EV for life experiences and sharpening my live cash game as well.

2.) Health problems holding me back. Since I was 17, I've been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Recently, it has gotten a lot worse, and a big side effect has been chronic pain that really affected my mood and I think cut into some of my poker hours. When I graduated college I was 6'3" 200lbs at 9% BF and in really great shape.

A year later, I'm 6'3" (Well, at least I'm not shrinking) 183lbs at 12% BF and in not great shape. I'm starting physical therapy next week so hopefully I can get back in good shape which will lead to better results both with poker and in life.

May 2015 Goals:

1. Study 40 hours

Really lacked this in April with the volume. Really want to take my game to the level where I'm a good 200NL reg beating the game.

2. 50k Hands

Short and simple but I really want to put in a lot of off the table work. If anyone will be in Vegas this summer, hit me up and I'd be down to meet.

Good luck in Vegas sir and with the off the felt stuff as well...I know you'll crush both!

P.S. Please become a good 200NL reg and stay out of the 50NL/100NL pool in case I get in there soon...would be better for my win rate.

Thanks Stella! Gonna take some time but nothing a little work won't help and you'll get there sooner rather than later.

First kind of real session of the month didn't go well, all at 200/100. Ran pretty terribly but made a few bad call downs.

Not sure if you were asking for any feedback but I'm bored at home and nothing's running so I'll give you some (for what it's worth).

1) Standard
2) Standard
3) Prefer gii pre, but if you like to flat 3bs oop this is good for balance
4) Standard
5) Like your play it's fine. Not folding 2nd nut flush here even with board paired. Your hand looks more like KX than a flush imo especially b/c you're a station. Also against the CO K3ss is a meh defend. He has so few FHs and definitely some AsXx hands (some nutflushes of course). Then again, you're a station maybe he's not bluffing.
6) Bad river call, fold pre. If you think he's squeezing too wide backraise all in
7) Is preflop bluff or value? Take it villain is a weak reg who doesn't fold to 3bets. I would definitely c-bet here to fold out 77-99. Also you have a lot of equity/barrel-ability
8) weeeeee
9) I don't call 4bs all that often especially oop. But if you're going to you might as well flop a flush.
10) Also prefer 4b pre, but again if you flat a ton of 3bs oop it's fine. Think his play is meh/fine if he has any FE.
11) Like river shove > pot. Is preflop value or bluff?
12) I like your line but might prefer to value bet river myself. If you do check I like this line a lot with the nut blocker.

Keep working hard. See ya on the felt

Feedback and criticism is always welcome and appreciated for sure

7. 3bet is for value as villain was opening around 30% UTG (limited sample but still). Wasn't sure about cbetting multiway when I get cold called by a weaker reg, but it definitely can't be bad when I can barrel a ton of turns.

10.) I do flat some nutted hands (probably too much) to 3bets

11.) AQo is normally a call UTG for me, but villain was bit loose and weak reg cold called, probably marginal overall. I agree river shove is better.

Agreed about being a station lol definitely things to work on

Thanks for support sir!

So after a nice long weekend in OC to see a bunch of old college friends I'm back and itching to put in the work poker wise.

Did about 2-3 hours of off table work yesterday and played a non descript session of 200/100.

Ended up playing the 5k and 10k on WSOP, busted the 5k relatively quickly but had a nice deep run in the 10k to get the silver medal for 1.6k so that was a nice boost after a rocky start to the month

Once I decide to call flop I was calling down as he also has played overpairs to the board like this. Meh, he had it.

Looking for a good grind today
Transitioning from the Office to the Felt: Poker full time or Bust Quote

Few updates:

Been quite sick this past week overall, and have played very little. I've basically played until I had a solid day than snap quit. Definitely been playing B game but have table selected well and ran well to turn the month back into the black after a horrendous start.

Definitely harder to get volume at 100/200 as I'm multi-siting (is that a word) quite a bit. Set up my SCOOP schedule and my WSOP schedule which is nice. Gonna play a majority of volume this month at Party to finish the 50k set of hands for my stake w Fast who has been a big help in bouncing off ideas.

Anyway some hands, both good and bad

1: Don't like my turn/river sizing vs fun player. Think I can just bomb it exploitively as I don't expect him to fold TP

2.) Bluffcatch fail against whale. Expect villain to bet FD on flop as well as 10x, when I bet turn for value I expect him to have single spades, 54,65, A2, and occasionally 3x. Not the best hand for a bluff catch but against whale think it's a definite call

4: 3bp with 2 whales ... Pre is for value against villain who is opening an insane amount. On flop, think it's disastrous to cbet multiway with two people who hate to fold especially on that board texture. Turn is gin, contemplated raising but think QJ is a bit too week. KJ/AJ think are the worst hands I can do for value. Decided to cb river but think I can go for thin value against whales who never have a straight. Occasionally can have two pair and maybe KJ, but will most likely pay off with any 7x or worse jx.
