Curious why you like to keep chips? I know its as good as cash but dont see why you'd want high denomination chips.

No big reason beside comfort/simpler/convenient.
Just fits better in the wallet.
Whenever I play 2/5/10 or 5/10/20, I'll just take a few pumpkins or a grey to the poker rm, instead of all the bulky cash. I don't color up for cash all the time. Just depends on what my wallet looks like at the time. I really hate having a bulky wallet in my pocket. It's not comfortable while I'm playing, or carrying around.
I like to always bring at least $1500 to the room just in case a bigger game breaks out. On Wednesdays and Fridays (big no limit days) I may just bring one 5k chip (grey), or a couple pumpkins...makes the wallet close better.
Simpler for me. Comfort thing.

@3betforlife that's also what another friend of mine said. He mentioned the game was great and ended up going strong until 1:30p the next day!
Friday also had a 5/10 PLO game running which may have made the nl a little softer. Some of the better no limit players may hv been playing PLO instead. I know Wed when 2/5/10 was running, they opened a 5/10 PLO, and it made the 2/5/10nl much better as some of the better nl players went to the PLO game instead.
Hope u had a great night! Gl

It's 7am, and the kiddo just got on the bus. Now time to drop the other off a daycare, and then head to HSI to grind away. Have a gd day y'all.

@tswpoker thanks man. Juicy games and $230k bbj (if it didn’t hit already) = I may have to play a little cash then.

@blufforbbluffed If I get caught up in the hand where I already invested money in the pot, and the math says it doesn't make since to fold AK, then I'm calling aipf every time. If I'm last to act w no money in, and someone is already all in for lots, then I'm folding AK every time. It's just not worth it. Bad spot. I like to find gd spots.

@Moaurlawn thanks. Btw, I respect a lot of our poker convos. U know tourney strategy like no other. Cash too.

Hard to Run a Business in a Poker Room

Yesterday the poker room was crazy. Somehow I left the there with 2 vehicles. That’s correct, I bought a Jeep Wrangler off a random poker player I was playing against.
Lets start at the top... 7am older daughter on the bus, then take younger one to daycare. 9a get to the poker room right as they start the first 1/2nl table. My timing is impeccable. Grind to about 1p and win $194 just by playing solid poker. No interesting spots or hands to discuss. 1:30p the first 2/5 table opens up. I grind for about 4hrs, and win $265. At one point though I was up $1100ish, but lost $1k on this hand…
We r playing 2/5/winner straddle, and button straddles $25, I call w KJ from utg+1, Middle position raises to $75. Button Straddler calls, I call. 3 handed w me/$2k stack, CO/$1k stack, button/$2k stack. Pot is $225 and the flop comes 7Q9. I check the gut straight nut draw/2nd nut flush draw/one over, cutoff makes it $175, active button calls 175, and back to me. I see nearly $600 in the pot and try to go ahead and take it down w a verbal “all in”. If my shove gets called then I still hv a big draw, and near about flipping (42%dog) against all hands. If I’m up against sets then 34%dog. I like my play, but didn’t like seeing the hand that called me. CO tanks, and tanks, and then looks at his remaining $800 in chips and finally pushes them in the middle. His A7 was not what I wanted to see! This the absolute worse hand I can be up against. Turns out, this hand makes me a worse dog than if I was up against a set. 31% dog according to poker calc. Board runs out Q turn, Q river. Ace hi wins.

3p a recreational player sits in the 5 seat. It doesn’t take but 3 hands before his phone starts ringing. I noticed “recreation poker guy” is actually a “used car salesman guy”. He was averaging 2 calls an orbit, and more car jargon was spoken than the other 8 players could handle. Seat 6 requested a seat change 10 mins after “car guy” sat down. “Car guy” shouted to every potential buyer on the other end of the phone as if they were under water. The phone convos were heard by all players at the table (perhaps other tables too) whether u wanted to hear it or not. "Car guy" was easily taking more calls about from customers than playing hands. After a few more deafening phone calls, it didn’t take long to find out that he owns a used car lot, and just came across this crazy deal on a perfect 1998 Jeep Wrangler a couple days ago. W only 95k miles, priced to quick sale, great shape, it’s a bargain for anyone. So in between hands I listen to him talk to a few guys on the phone about this particular Jeep. As I eavesdrop I’m gaining more information on this Wrangler and it's actually starting to catch my attention. A couple orbits later I know more about this Jeep than I wanted to know, and now contemplating if I shd make this guy an offer. I had a Jeep very similar to what he was selling back in the day, so I had a little knowledge about this vehicle. I’m thinking I can perhaps make a buck off this vehicle, or drive it for awhile. I ended up taking a little break from the table to do some further research. I walk out on the deck of the boat, and check out some key #s on my phone. I wd say I spent about 20mins looking at Kelly blue book, and comparing it to similar Jeeps on Autotrader. After doing my homework, I decided to go back to the table and get more of a feel off the "car hustler". 4p I ask the “car guy” if he has a picture of this “perfect” jeep, so he hands me his phone w a few pics. He then tells me he drove it here, and if I’m interested we can go look at it. Then he gives me the “car hustle” talk…never been wrecked, no leaks, no dings, no rust, clean title, 2 owners, etc. etc. He mentioned he has the title on hand, and he wd gv me a deal of a lifetime. So I was thinking if I can get a gd deal on this thing, I’ll gv it a look. 5:30p I cash out and take the Jeep for a lengthy test drive down country roads. I got a really gd vibe on this Jeep, but more importantly I was starting to get gd vibes off the “car guy”. After test driving the Jeep, it was surprisingly even nicer than I anticipated. When I keyed in the info on kbb I used all the low sides to b on the safe side. But when I drove it, I noticed it was in great condition instead of fair, roll down windows instead of zip downs, cd player w blue tooth, great tires, handles great, etc. In poker talk, it feels like I just hit a 2 outer. I played the “I’m not too interested game”, but told him if u want to get rid of it right now, then I’ll gv u an offer. I got the vibes that he needed money now, and was a little desperate. I tell him that I wd give him $45hundred for this cd player, and $500 for this Jeep (package deal only of course, meaning I don’t want just the cd player for $4500). It was a $5k take it, or leave it offer. “Car guy” was asking $5800, and after tanking (lol) and tanking he said OK. Mayb him losing a bit in the 2/5nl game may have swayed his decision.

Today I took the Jeep to get cleaned up, topped off, and titled. Taxes on $500.00 wasn’t bad , registration not too bad either. Under $100 for tags, title, registration and out the door.
Runs like a champ, and no check engine lights (inside joke). Now I’m not sure if I want to drive it for awhile or sell it on Craigs for $6k+. At least I know I’m free rolling on this one.

somehow I make up to $5k/yr just being in the poker room and finding opportunities.

With all that said, I will b dumping my Jeep profit on the Mid Stakes Poker Tournament tomorrow. $1100 main event buy n & $100k guarantee prize pool. @Tropican Evansville. Gonna be playing my heart out like champions do! Let's get it. Gl @danger! and @hello7027 as well, and any other 2+2ers playing the MSPT this weekend.

*btw, I wd have paid upwards to $5500 for the Jeep.

Thanks. I sell it to ya for $6200 lol . Trying to get a buy in back. Lol
Nah Forget it, joking of course, I'm keeping this thing for awhile. Top off and doors already off
Well it turned out "car guy" actually lives in the next town over from me. So CG followed me to my exit and we did the transaction at the Waffle House in my home town. He had one of his "car mechanic" guys come pick him up. I politely ask "Waffle lady" if I can keep my Jeep there for 30 mins until I come back for it. I drove my truck home and then my gf took me to get it.

0 for 11 or 12. Getting hard to keep track at this point. Another Busto from MSPT main event.
Still undecided if I like my last play or hate it. It was RISKY and I think I shd b playing more of a survival mode instead.
I got crazy w 60bbs. Level 5 25/150/300. All stacks 20kish. Middle opens to 600, I call on his immediate left w 78, villain on my direct left 3 bets to 1775. Folds to opener who calls, and me tanks...
Before I continue on, let me say Villain is new to table and has played the first 3 hands dealt AND 3bet ALL 3 hands! I got to see a couple of his hands k10o, KQo, q10.
Now he 3 bets again for the 4th hand in a roll. I decide to squeeze and/or take a stand and play back at him. Either or, prob shd hv just called and kept surviving. But I chose the latter and shoved 60bbs w the nut crackers. Of course I shd hv know the 4th time is always the nuts! He has KK. The nut crackers couldn't crack. 67K 10 7. Lol otr 7. A little needle for the road. Kings full>trip 7s

I wouldn't shove here. Even if you think he is light, I think calling is a more preferred option since your getting good odds on a call. I was thinking 4betting to like 3800-4200 but that even seems to be spewy as well, as we would have to c-bet every flop. You still have 60 bigs, which is plenty early on.

Was his other 3-betting sizes the same as this one with KK or on the larger side?

No need to take a stand at this point....wait until it's worth while to pick up the blinds and antes...I would favor towards a fold, but maybe call and use your deep stack cash instincts from here.

@ashberj it was a punt that I thought for sure wd b getting folds based on my vibes at the time. Clearly caught off guard and surprised w the cowboys killers.
@moaurlawn same.
@boilref I'm leaning towards agreeing w u.

I agree it was spazzy, but I thought Villain wd fold all hands except QQs better, and AK. The chances of him having those 4 hands I felt was slim (5%) based on his previous plays. This is not smthing I do all the time, in fact it was my one and only all in. I felt if I played back in this hand and got a lay down, it wd help my long term play at the table. I felt it was a 1 and 20 chance of getting called. And if it was a 5% big hand that called, then I had the best defence in the crackers.
With that said, I doubt if I wd do the same thing again in a similar situation. Not sure. I play in the moment, and try to make the best plays possible at the time. It felt right at the moment, and mayb I wd do it again. Or not. Still not sure.
I appreciate the feedback and believe me I was prepared to hear spewy.

Btw, the guy I lost my chips to is the overall chip leader going into day 2!

I was looking in my Poker Jouranl App to see this month results, and up +3,669 in cash and down -1825 in tournaments this month. Overall up. +$1,844 in August as of today. Might as well play the Cincy Labor Day Tourney ($1500), and either hv a slightly above break even, or maybe a bingo month. I need to run gd n cash Monday-Thurs to make sure I stay n the black this month.

Damn these tourneys.

I want to ask you a question about this:

"I agree it was spazzy, but I thought Villain wd fold all hands except QQs better, and AK."

What is your all-in betting range, vs. your 4-betting range? Could you argue that your 4-bet range here is stronger than your all-in range?

I'm assuming 9 handed table, so we've got 225 Antes + 150 SB +300 BB = 675. If your stack is 20,000, that means your M value is 29.63, and you have 66ish big blinds. PLENTY of chips, so imo you should we looking for GREAT spots, not good ones. Personally, I think this isn't a GREAT spot.

With someone that has been this aggressive, I think playing the 7 8 is fine, but I'd be more inclined to call and try to trap him on a big flop, or check/fold if you with. With so many chips there is no reason to be a hero here.

Pot: 675 Preflop + 600 Middle Min-raise + 600 Rayz flat + 1775 Villain Re-raise + 1175 Middle flat = 4,825 chips.

You risked 19,400 (or so) of your chips to win 4,825. If you win the pot you increase your overall stack by 25%. If you lose the pot you are eliminated and lose your entire stack.

So you've shoved, and now it's back on villain to call. He now has to risk 18,225 to win 24,225.

You said that the chances of him having QQs or bettter + AK was around 5%. That range is actually much lower, there are 22 combos of AA, AKs, KK & QQ out of 1,326 hand, that's 1.66%. Even if we through in AKo, that's 2.56% of hand combos.

Let's look at the top 5% of hands: AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, AKs, AQs, AJs, AKo & KQs. These make up 64/1,326 hands, about 4.83%.

Let's take a look at 78s vs this range. All-in preflop you have 29% equity. I think your shove can be +EV, assuming you do have some fold equity, however you really need a better read on the player, rather than he just sat and 3 bet every hand so far, card rushes do happen. Let's take a look at 78s vs the 1.66% range. All-in preflop you have 25% equity. Against this range you have basically no fold equity, as they are never folding to the all-in bet. I just think you've got to fold the hand.

This is all just my opinion, and I don't necessary understanding all of the math and concepts as I'd like, so take it for what it is. That being said if my logic is flawed please feel free (or anyone else) to correct me.

As always, good luck and keep crushing!!
