Hi mate

Excellent job last week. I have a question for you. I am playing spins on pokerstars. I have started from the very bottom, 0.25$. Now i am moving to the 1$ but in an tiny sample i dont see many players repeating games. About what level i am going to start to see regs more frequently? 3? 7? 15?

PS: Regarding the freeroll, i choose creativity i guess. I think you will comply everithing. Keep the great work!

Great week and good to see you can move up in stakes again

I'll take Nutrition, it's the hardest one for me to comply

I have the same experience. I haven't played much 0.25$ spins but have close to 1k 1$ spins and will move up to 3$ spins soon. As shellyashes said on the previous page, we shouldn't expect to much regs on the 3$ either. I think it starts at the 7$ with bad-mediocre regs and comp getting tougher at 15$. I currently only aim to get to 7$ as I suspect the games to get harder and the regs playing lower stakes once the new reward system kicks in...

Cheers hollandor! I think what DJSirMatthew says above is probably right, though to be honest I'm no expert myself. Just from a small amount of personal experience the field at $3 is so large I don't think you should expect to see regs too often.

Thanks Shelly and Mathew. I have a rough start at 1$, but very small sample to get conclusions. Just keep playing and hard working.

Spins are super swingy so you could be playing amazing and have a cev that just plummets. It's part and parcel. If you haven't already though consider a sub to ICMizer and start plugging allin spots. If you're willing to put the work in it pays for itself in no time at all. More than seeing what hands are profitable against what ranges, it's absolutely crucial to think hard about complex ranges away from the tables and ICMizer gives you a visual tool for doing just that.

I don't work for mizer btw.

Sup guys. Last day of the current goalset. Unfortunately I'm way behind on volume and need about 13hrs today to reach 30. All other goals are on course and the fitness is already locked up so I'm using today as a rest day which frees up a bunch of time for grinding. I'll push myself hard but if I get to 9 or 10hrs and my focus isn't there I won't force it.

Played a couple of squash league matches this week and have comfortably beaten guys who I've lost to in the past, including a bloke who I last played about six months ago and who I basically couldn't compete with back then. All the hard work I'm putting into fitness/nutrition/squash game is really producing results and I couldn't be prouder of myself. When you just dominate matches against people who you couldn't get close to at one point it's such a beautiful feeling, not least because of the recognition you get for your improvement.

I had a match last night which I won 3-0 and I've got a rematch tomorrow against a really tough player who I drew 2-2 with last week. Today I'm resting up and I'm really excited because I think I can edge him this time.

I'll probably drop by to review the goals tomorrow morning rather than at the end of today.

Squash is a great game, played it solidly throughout school for 5 years and was in a league with some of my teachers, kinda punted playing it first year of uni but really want to get back into it now.

Gl on the grind too

Sounds like the squash is going good. Have you had much coaching? Coaching is really the key, once you have a good technique, can hit the ball straight down the walls every time, and can get the ball out of the corners you'll really improve if you play a lot.

Great thread mate, hope it works out for you. Nice to see you got to the bottom of your issues; mental health has been in the spotlight lately (Aaron Lennon) and is a pretty big concern amongst men so it's always nice to read about someone who sought help and found a resolution. Fair play sir.

Definitely no creativity being a Potters fan though! (chortle chortle).

Cheers mate.

Squash is amazing. I'm so into it I even spend a lot of my downtime watching the PSA channel on youtube. You should get back into it because it sounds like you were at a pretty decent level. That's good motivation because it's way easier to reach a level you've previously attained than it is to break into unchartered territory, muscle-memory is very real!

There's a bloke I encountered in the leagues who is about 60 years old and would surely be classed as morbidly obese. However, his technical ability and ability to control the ball with minimal footwork just blew me away the first time I played him. He's also a top guy and said that if I paid for the sessions he would coach me. I've done a few sessions with him and he's basically taught me exercises and given me the tools to go down and train myself.

I'm still a long way from being a clean hitter but I'm getting there, and as you say the ability to hit solid lengths vs solid lengths is what gives you the ability to compete. When I say I couldn't compete with people it was basically symptomatic of this terrible habit of having my back to the back-wall and playing these terrible little dinks in response to balls played to the back corners by my opponents. Obviously against anyone half decent you just get slaughtered doing that. It was one of the first terrible habits that was coached out of me, to ensure I was always a racket swing away from the back corners when playing shots from there. (basically directly facing the corner)

I'm at a point now where I'm coming up against middle-age men who are technically much better than me, but as a result of superior fitness and physicality (which is improving all the time) I'm able to compete by keeping in points, chasing down balls like a maniac and demoralising people who are having to play more shots than usual. This results in opponents feeling forced to go for winners they wouldn't normally have to and those shots are very low percentage at our level, especially when the opponent is already physically exerted.

Saying all that I'm in the 4th tier at the moment so I have no doubt I'll get dicked again at some point and have to go back to the drawing board. In fact there's a player in the league I'm currently in who is way above my level. If I manage to take just 1 set off him then I'll consider it a result.

Cheers Wubblepig!

It can definitely be tough for people to confront mental-issues. For me every single day is still a battle. If I look after myself by eating right, exercising and working hard towards my goals I mostly keep things in check, but I can still feel the issues bubbling just under the surface.

I imagine it'll be a constant battle for the rest of my life but hopefully, as the world becomes less ignorant and mental-health problems become less taboo then the facilities and services will improve.

UP THE MIGHTY MIGHTY POTTERS!

Tuesday 9th May to Friday 12th May - Review

RiD = Record in Diary

Poker

[F] 30hrs+ total grind + RiD

Failed this. Only managed 24hrs 18mins (1458mins) of grind. Did spend another 6hrs 45mins (405mins) doing off-table work though.

[X] RiD all poker activity (Grind, Study, Coaching, Notetaking, HUD work, etc)

Mental

[X] 10mins meditation every day + RiD

Happy about this although I'd like to start being more consistent with the time I meditate. I feel like around middayish seems best for me. I'm starting to have moments where I enter a deeper state and it's intensely pleasurable, but it's hard to maintain for more than a few seconds because becoming aware of the pleasure of the state causes you lose focus and exit. I suppose this is why consistency is key, you have to build up to a point where you can experience the feeling without drawing your focus to it.

Nutrition

[X] RiD all food consumed and estimate carbs

[X] <200g Total Carbs (TC) on 4/4 days

Did well here. Didn't go over 180g on any of the days and went as low as 150g yesterday.

Fitness

[X] workout on at least 3/4 days + RiD (Squash, Weights, Running)

Achieved this. Did circuit training, a squash solo training session and then had the aforementioned squash league match on Thursday which I won 3-0. Used yesterday as a rest day.

Creativity

[X] 30mins+ learning keyboard on 4/4 days + RiD

Achieved this. Pleased with the progress I'm making because it's a super-fulfilling hobby and I feel like I'm giving myself the tools necessary to create music in the future which is a dream of mine.

Overall a solid enough week. Disappointed with my volume but it's all at higher stakes so that's a positive.

Volume would've been slightly higher but I had a super sad ending to a rough day yesterday. I finally hit one of the highest multipliers for the first time, which based on my volume since moving to this site was long overdue!

There was a fish who seized up and a reg who was abusing the situation by opening every hand. I flatted AA vs their BTN open (stack sizes allowed it, not so shallow that it was super obv) because their range was so wide I expected this to be the best way to get value, and also it meant the scared fish could squeeze a wider range. HU to flop it comes A J 5 dd. Reg doesn't cbet. Turn Qss I bet 3/4 reg flats. River 4x I have about 65% PSB but decide to bet about 45%. Reg instantly jams and I pretty much know already based on how aids the day had gone in these spots that he had the nuts. It hurt a lot.

I'll drop in tomorrow night and set some new goals for the coming week. There will be more freerolls

This is a big week. Ideally I want somewhere around 800 games at the higher stakes. I'll be 2-tabling so it's imperative I hit the hourly goal to get anywhere near that number.

$3 freeroll on each of the categories, first come first serve only one per respondent.

I'll take poker this week :-) Just to push you harder so you do make the goal this week.

And I did run the 15k yeah. It was actually a training for a marathon i want to run in october. It went very well, close to 11 k/h so quite happy with the effort. Not so happy with my eating habits, still have to work on that. I'm such a sucker for chocolate and sweets (and french fries and cheese and.. well basically anything that's not so good for you *lol* )

That's pretty bloody fast. If I'm running at <10mins/ml over a significantly shorter distance I class that as decent so I can't even imagine your level.

Tbh if you're putting that much effort and that many hours into running then you should enjoy some **** food and treats and not feel at all guilty imo.

OH HAI DER!

Cheers mate, thankyou for the compliment wrt to my posts because it's a product of my OCD so sometimes I think it's a bit too much, especially when I sit before posting making sure all the spaces are equal and reading/re-reading/re-rereading etc etc. It makes me more forgiving of myself if someone has a nice thing to say about the product of my mentalness!!

Had a weird first few days of the week. I've struggled terribly for motivation and every little task has felt arduous.

I listen to a lot of The Joe Rogan's Experience. Quite a few times he's been speaking about discipline and goals, and how he always feels "resistance" before he begins a difficult task such as a workout. Whenever he talks about this resistance his guests will always be in complete agreement.

It's interesting to me because it's very easy to look at successful people and just assume they have something deeply ingrained into their psyche that means they don't ever feel that resistance to the hard graft that's needed to achieve their goals. It's very easy to trick ourselves into truly believing that these people have some sort of natural advantage and that we've been stiffed by nature/nurture or whatever it may be.

It's complete and utter bollocks though! Every single person who has ever achieved anything worthwhile has felt those negative feelings, those feelings of doubt and trepidation, those feelings of resistance to the seemingly simple act of starting an activity. The only real difference is that successful people have managed to attain a much higher level of mastery of the skill of discipline. It is most definitely a skill, and it's a skill that can be acquired by every one of us.

It's kind of liberating to realise that it's perfectly normal to feel push-back against tasks that are difficult. It makes a hell of a lot of sense when you think about it. We all have our personal struggles and setbacks, our past regrets and failures. We all have a choice whether to attempt a difficult task that betters us, or to lay around watching netflix or sit in front of a monitor with our dick in our hand etc etc. The easy option feels good in the moment but it hurts us long-term. I'm guilty of viewing all of my past regrets as some sort of disability when in actuality, that pain is a super important tool that can help us get to wherever it is we want to get to.

I've managed to grind for close to 14hrs so far and I'm still on course with all my other weekly goals. The pace isn't where I want it to be, but I'm proud of the fact that I've found just enough within myself to stay in contention. If discipline is some sort of muscle then mine has had a bloody tough workout over the last couple of days. I know only too well how easy it is to **** up completely when you become engulfed by resistance because I've done it a million times. I'm determined to improve my discipline.
