March Review

Pleased with the month overall. Obviously there was big disruption at the start, and I maybe let myself down a little at the end by slipping out of a good rhythm so there's plenty of improvements to be made but I'm encouraged and excited to see what I can produce in April.

As I'm sure you're all aware, being in a good productive rhythm is all about consistency. It's way easier to push ahead in 4th or 5th gear when you're already at that level than it is to get to that level from a standing-start!

I've made a good start to a new relationship with my backers and not only do I feel like I've made a great decision, but I'm hoping that I've also made a strong impression on them. There's already talk of moving me up to the next level and it's at that level where I believe I'll have everything I need to achieve the original goal of this thread, which is to consistently earn enough to live comfortably. (about £1.2k a month)

I probably should've adjusted this goal after the disruption of the first 1/3 of the month. There was also a bunch of hours that didn't get recorded in my diary.

Nontheless, I recorded;

5619 minutes of Grind which is 93hrs 39mins

1141 minutes of other activities (Coaching, Study, Notetaking, HUD-Work) which is 19hrs 1min

So a total of 112hrs 40mins which isn't a terrible effort. Realistically there's probably about 30hrs missing from there.

March Graph

It's a shame about the dip at the end as it basically coincided with me upping to 3-tables. I'm pretty sure it's mostly just variance but the swing couldn't have come at a worse time as it did freak me out a bit and made me feel like I wasn't in control. Happy to say I've got a few hours 3-tabling under my belt now and I believe the majority of this month will be spent grinding that many tables.

Hey Ronaldo. At first I struggled as the games are faster and game-to-game variance is way higher than on stars, but overall variance is way way way lower and I've got used to the format now. There's a lot of regs but to be honest at the level I'm at most of them are pretty bad, though I'm sure a few would say similar about me!

-----

Sup guys. Made an ok start to the month, running way better than before and although there's been some disruption with implementing a new HUD and getting used to that, and also some issues with PT4 that I'm in the process of fixing, I'm fairly pleased with how poker and life is going.

Things can definitely improve though so I'll be looking to build upon the momentum I've created in the last week or so and really kick on from here!

-----

Month to Date

-----

Plan for the week is to have my coaching session on Tuesday but otherwise use that day as a chill day as I've been pretty goals-orientated and living with the pressures that come with that mindframe, so it'll be nice to have a day to reset a bit. I have the short story The Old Man And The Sea sitting on my bedside table so looking forward to chilling out and reading that! I'm also making some really solid progress with my other goals so I'll have plenty to keep me occupied on my chill day!

I'm also going for a meal on Saturday so not sure if I'll be grinding then, might be super professional and just limit myself to only a couple of beers but failing that I've got at least five days to hit it hard.

I'm 3-tabling now and feeling more comfortable every day so there's no reason why I can't double my months volume by the end of next Sunday night! A 900 game week would be a solid effort, 1k would be amazing. At the end of this week I'll be moving up to the next limit so exciting times lie ahead!

Hello. The idea of moving up has been in the air for a few weeks now, in fact when one of my backers first announced it to me he told me he had good news and that they'd decided to move me down to reduce my stress... and then asked me if I was ok with this!!!.....

He likes to troll a lot actually. At the end of a coaching session recently, we finished the skype call and as I was still connected to his PC via TV he opened a porn browser and started searching for gay porn. At least he says he was trolling!

Spoiler:

We've finally decided the big day will be one week from today so I'm excited to push hard and arrive at the new limits feeling like I gave a hell of a lot to the previous level. It's not set in stone that I'll stay there when I move up, but I'm fairly confident that I'll cope well.

I'm not sure if I mentioned but I can't reveal specific details about what games I'm playing and the deal I'm on, etc etc, however I suppose I can say I'm playing equivalent of $7 spins and I'll be moving to $15.

I'll drop in in a week and post some graphs.

Let's ****ing go!

Hey man. I can't post $ graphs anymore sorry. It kind of sucks with regards to the thread but I've been asked to keep site details private by my backers and I have to respect their wishes. Obviously it makes the thread less entertaining but it is what it is. I actually considered ending the thread but decided to keep it going with just chip ev. The stake is more important than the thread though.

-----

Sup guys. I'm moving up to the next limit today. Fingers crossed I can show enough competence and improvement to remain here permanently. As I said before, it's equivalent to moving from $7 spins to $15 so it's a big leap but I feel like my fundamentals are solid enough to cope with the jump.

Sup guys. I let myself down second half of the month which is a real shame. Went out on the piss on Easter Sunday and it just completely annihilated me. I don't know if I have ****ed up brain chemistry or if I'm just a wimp or what, but I was hungover for a few days and bodyclock got out of whack then from that point on just slipped into a nocturnal depression hole-type-thing that I'm prone to. Once in that state I struggle terribly to find the ignition to get back on track.

As a result of the screeching halt in productivity I've been moved back down in stakes for the first week of May. It's disappointing but understandable. I barely got any volume at the higher stake games.

This blip is something that used to happen when I was a grinder a few years ago. I'd work really hard, go out and get ****ed up to celebrate and then slip into a depression and essentially undo a bunch of hard work and progress. Maybe I had just forgotten how I am, or maybe I just overestimated the progress I'd made since back then, but clearly I'm not the sort of person who can afford to go wild. Moving forwards I'll remember this episode and ensure it doesn't happen again.

April Review

Basically failed all the goals I set including keeping track of everything but I suppose in the spirit of a positive start to May I'll list some things I'm proud of.

- I ate super clean and healthy for the first half of the month, lots of organic veg (I get a box delivered weekly), lots of good meat and fats, fairly low carbs and very little processed carbs.

- I meditated for approximately 200 minutes in total in the first half of the month. Looking to pick up this habit again.

- I spent well over 6 hours of recorded learning the keyboard (prob closer to 10 overall) and made a real breakthrough on one of the songs. It was the first time left and right hand parts were essentially separate entities. All other songs I've learnt so far, left hand notes are played at the same time as right hand, on this song (The Entertainer) the left hand is basically a bed for the right hand to lie on and I spent a bunch of sessions and several hours banging my head against a wall trying to play it right, but now I'm very competent and feel like I've smashed through a plateau.

- I worked out 14 times (squash, weights, jogging), made clear improvements to my squash game and started running again for the first time in at least a year.

- I made clear improvements to my poker game and made a little bit of money, enough to keep the wolf at bay for a short while longer. Although I'm overall unhappy with my volume and general efforts in the last half of the month, if I can recreate the efforts from first half over the entirety of May then I won't go far wrong.

The last few days I've managed to claw out of the hole I spoke about in the previous post. I'm not going to set goals for the month but instead use shorter-term goal periods of no longer than a week. I think that makes sense for me right now.

The higher stakes graph I posted was missing a bunch of games. This one is more accurate though I purged two games because I got disconnected. I actually ran aids in the tiny sample, really got brutalised.

Aww thanks man, nice to know you're enjoying the thread sometimes I feel like I'm a bit boring especially when I read other threads that are so great!

It's a shame I can't post details about the deal/site and subsequently can't post graphs of winnings but it's just one of those things and the reasons my backers gave do make perfect sense.

Cheers Ronaldo. 14 days sport is decent but it mostly was in the first half of the month. I basically abused my body for a few weeks but happy to say I didn't lose much fitness as I've felt fine at squash last few days, and also I went running yesterday and smashed my time from the last run.

It's unfortunate with regards to the drinking, it sounds like you are the same as me. Everyone gets hungover and feels down but for me it ****s me up way more than it should, like it basically takes more than a week to feel normal again. The world just takes on a blue hue in that time. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise though because drinking isn't good for you anyway!

The lower stakes are actually really reg-infested and because it's a smaller site even the fish you bump into over and over again. I take huge amounts of detailed notes because of this.
I actually spotted a bot with ridiculous volume at my levels, the guy was outrageously high on leaderboards for the stakes but also kept doing this move where they'd bluff river 1/3 every time. I made a note first time I saw it because it seems a good read to have, but then it kept happening so I alerted my backers who are in contact with the site, and after an investigation the bot was removed!

Quick mini-update, the week is going really great. I'm back into a good schedule and doing better than ever with timekeeping which is an area that I've always struggled with even when I've doing well in general.

Running a bit ****ty and making a few mistakes but you can't have it all.

I'll update when I finish on Sunday, really desperate to smash a longer term goalset. I regularly smash my daily goals but weekly/monthly is a different beast and something I've always failed on so this is important to me!

I saw you switched away from Stars. How does the new site compare to Stars? I'm playing the Minnie Mouse stakes at Spins at Stars for the time being ( low volume player but wanted to hit 1k at the 1$ spins before moving up, although at cEV 70 (last 500 at 85) I'm pretty confident I'll manager at 3$ spins too) and at the 1$ level at least I encounter almost no regs... always new people although one thing almost all Russians seem to do is push all-in the first hand if it's a 2x and push the first hand HU...

New site is obv smaller so the games are pretty reggy. Even the fish are basically regs. Saying that I'm playing equivalent of $7 spins and I'll be moving up again to $15 equiv from Monday so can't speak for the lower levels.

When I was at $3 on Stars I don't think I managed to identify any regs. Maybe there'd be same player on multiple tables from time to time but I can't remember seeing recurring players much at all. I'm guessing it may be similar at $7 as the site is so large, but $15 must start feeling reggier.

You'll definitely notice a toughening of the games when you move up but that's always the case. If you're beating the $1 comfortably though, and it sounds like you are, then I'm sure you'll be hot to trot for 3s!

Poker

[X] 36hrs+ total grind + RiD

Put in 36hrs 14mins (2174) plus 10hrs 31mins (631) of off table work this week. It's a decent effort although I could've gone past 40hrs grind quite easily but slacked a bit when the goal was tied up.

[X] RiD all poker activity (Grind, Study, Coaching, Notetaking, HUD work, etc)

Mental

[X] 10mins meditation every day + RiD

Really pleased with this! Will be looking to start meditating at a consistent time each day going forwards, around midday before my first playing session seems a decent time for it.

Nutrition

[X] RiD all food consumed and estimate carbs
[X] <200g Total Carbs (TC) on at least 6/7 days

The 1st May was the only day where I pigged out, rest of the week I've kept below 200 and even went close to 100 on a couple of days. Feel way healthier for it!

Fitness

[X] workout on at least 5/7 days + RiD (Squash, Weights, Running)

Fitness was phenomenal this week. Actually worked out 6/7 and had today as a rest day.
I went running once and smashed my previous time, I did a circuit workout (lifting weights) and I played four squash matches and put in my best performance ever yesterday to crown the week.

Creativity

[X] 30mins+ learning keyboard on at least 5/7 days + RiD

Missed the first two days but played on the last five to hit this goal. I'm learning a basic version of Für Elise and whilst it's tough and most definitely requires discipline, it's ridiculously good fun and has to be a lot better than watching some trashy tv or jacking off or w/e.

-----

Graph

Relatively pleased. CEV could've been higher, I made a few dumb mistakes but also ran a bit aidsy at times but w/e, I'll take it.

-----

I've been given the green light to move back up in stakes now I'm back into a solid rhythm. I'm proud of the efforts of the last seven days but I know from experience that the momentum has to be utilised otherwise you undo all the hard work. I'm determined to push ahead now and take this opportunity.

Plan for tomorrow is to grind some free tickets partpoker were kind enough to give me for their powerfest series so really looking forward to that! I'll also look to put a few hours in at my normal games.

Will drop by and set some new goals tomorrow night, with some more freerolls!

Thanks for reading, Shelly.
