Hey guys, here goes another attempt at a PG&C thread
Hoping it will help keep me accountable to put in some nice volume and work on improving my game!

Bio / Longer term goal
(long and boring )
Spoiler:
My name is Rob ,I am 21 and I've been playing poker for a couple of years off and on , for awhile when I was in between jobs I made a living off of live 1/2 and low stakes dailies for a few months and really enjoy live poker (mostly live MTTs) but since I have spent my whole life playing video games, long online poker sessions suit me well.

My favourite game has always been NL MTTs mostly because I guess I enjoy the beginning and an end, the different levels of pressure you face and can put on other people, how you can go from playing with a simple one buy-in in your tournament to getting to a final table and suddenly being faced with 100+ buyin amount decisions. I've had different levels of success and failures in tournaments but am nowhere near the level of player I want to be yet. Near the end of 2016 I started dabbling in PLO and mixed games and fell in love particularly with the 4 card variant and have been watching videos / working out spots and playing PLO since.

My ultimate goal is to grind up a roll playing online PLO with the the odd mtt session while putting some savings from work into the roll and hopefully afford myself the opportunity to take shots at the many really great live tournament events that are in my city as well as build a roll big enough for the juicy live PLO / NL games. Like I said, I love playing online poker but with sites like pokerstars trying their hardest to screw over their players in every single way possible the future doesn't look as bright as it once had. Only time will tell though with what other sites come out with and what happens with stars ownership!

I work a part time job 5 days a week, 25-30 hrs so I rarely am able to play a good mtt schedule since during the day I am at work or have to work in the evening and can't commit to a mtt grind and after work I am often too tired to grind the overnight schedule which is why I am going to be focusing on cash for now.

Going to mostly be playing on pokerstars for now until we see how disastrous the chest reward system ends up being.

Starting point at 10PLO for the last month and a half I have put in really poor volume but have ran hot, so that's nice. Given lots of cheeseburgers to Amaya along the way as well. Hoping to be able to shot take the run bad nightmare that is 25 PLO again soon. I often play 3 tables of zoom but have been starting to put in 6-8 reg table sessions when I feel like mixing it up and dealing with the constant lobby clicking.

So today ended up in a profit in cash, was ev grinding most of the day until right at the end I had a few things go my way. Tried to grind out a reg table session but felt like every 30 seconds a table was closing and I got bored so after an hour and a half or so of 6-8 tabling I went back to the 3 tables of zoom, which is always super good on the weekend.

MTTs on the other hand made the day about break even

I am still working on deciding what hands it is I want to post , I marked 15 from todays session but looking over them I don't see any that stand out that are super interesting , most super run good or run bad standard spots with low SPRs with AAxx or wraps or simply donations x) Will try to avoid posting 100bb flips, here's a few hands from today I picked out

This one I'm not sure sure about, this session just through run good AAxx spots / wraps and good spots in general I had been 3betting him a lot and he had been check/folding a lot post flop, hes supernova and seems to be a looser preflop tight postflop type of 'reg' based on his stats albeit over a small sample. I felt he might make more of a stand at this point and call down lighter.

Happy to hear peoples thoughts on how terrible it is to bet big fold here (I was assuming he would snapcall any 2pairs , obv sets and at same time can't think of bluff combos he would show up with very often besides QQxx) Felt check calling would be losing value but bet big folding feels pretty gross. Bigger bet sizing cause I thought it looked weaker. Maybe bet small /call ?

Tommorow is the first Sunday I have had off work since I started this new job 3 months ago, excited to play some poker tournaments then back to the cash grind on monday (might play small session tommorow night still :P)

Good luck to everyone , hopefully we all ship some monies!

Monday I am planning to get a gym membership with a buddy and get back into the workout grind, keep an eye out for a freeroll as well - might make one to hopefully encourage myself to not drink any pop for the rest of the month since the $1 mcdonalds drink days have been killing me weight and health wise

Will also probably start tracking some weekly goals with Monday update as well for volume and health.

Well it was a fun day of tournaments, felt like I played great but was basically a day of min cash -> lose a flip, lost a 100k pot in sunday storm on a near end of late reg so that would have been a nice spot to win as well (like 2.5-3x avg I think). Busted big 11 ~150th A7<TT standard 15bb spot for no day saver. Played 24 mtts for $100 or so in buy ins , ended -$32 could be worse.

accurate representation of when you feel great but lose everything

Interesting MTT hand with favourable flop vs a high ego reddit posting reg

https://www.boomplayer.com/24217781_ABE168B2F7

Afterwards still had the poker itch and saw a 5PLO zoom pool with zero people playing 3 or 4 tables with like 60 entries so I figured I would test 5 tabling zoom to help my focus, did 4 tables 5z and one 10z

Big leak of mine is reading 2+2 / watching youtube vids / talking on skype etc while playing, a bit harder with 5 tables of zoom up but NVG still got to me a bit, still feel I played better with more tables.

Back to work tommorow + hope to check out gym close by's membership prices / get mirror on my truck fixed etc , still hope to get in a good session of 10z

let's just say i've seen better sessions

Objectively I would say I could have saved myself probably 4-5 buy ins in spots with 2nd nut flush vs nut flush / set over set vs random one tablers taking super weird lines where the only thing they are possibly repping is the nuts and I poorly call thinking they have to show up with blockers at some point Also took an interesting line in 3b pot vs 2+2 reg and got snapped by top set + flush draw vs my overpair

edit: wasn't going to post hands cause I missed tagging lots but ended up reviewing my big losing hands this session so i'll post some

possible punt value shove vs reg

River spot that I think I just have to fold vs 1 tabler low aggro fish , especially when 4 ways to flop and as I've heard Jnandez say that it is actually standard for someone to have nut flush here since everyone loves to play AXss hands. Going to play some player unknowns battlegrounds to unwind then sleep since work again tommorow , think I will put in a 5PLO hope to feel-good session tommorow and re-sub RIU to clear my head and have a good video grind , it feels like whenever I play poker during work stretches I am not 100% focused and and much more prone to make poor calls vs player pool / get annoyed at standard flip or 60-40 losses. I need to fix that leak since it is not viable to only play poker 2 days a week with what my goals are as well as my ambitions. Maybe a nap after work or play in morning before work

Even though money was burned today, on the positive side got a good gym session in for first time in a looong time!

Goals for the week (that I meant to post on monday, and plan to update on mondays going forward)

Was feeling pretty sick yesterday with some sort of head cold, and physically dead from first gym visit in a long time :3 Only played around 1k hands (700 hands zoom 5plo -4 buyins, 300 hands reg tables +4 buyins)

Half assed update but I am now off work for a few days hopefully can recover health wise + get lots of volume in and study, here is a random rant for now:

I feel finding poker study partners is worse than tinder, post around get a bunch of people to add then when they finally accept the conversation and study goes nowhere. Same with the 5-10+ study groups i've been in over the year, feels like once you get a group of 5+ people everyone is afraid of posting their own hand because they don't want to get corrected and or don't respect other peoples opinions (importance of having a group of people on a similar level or having people with low levels of ego.) Nonetheless will continue trying to find people in a similar boat to get some sweat sessions and study in!

Also call me soft as hell but feeling this song lately , never listened to one direction stuff but some of their solo stuff is actually a pretty good listen

Alright just woke up at 2 pm somehow, last day off so hopefully can focus on a solid study and play session tonight. Yesterday just played some 2PLO - will be back to 10 PLO by end of week had to withdraw half of roll and 5PLO went poorly. Will be trying to take this week to watch as many PLO videos and read as many articles as I can while trying to keep a notepad of important talking points for myself to re-study in the future ( Something recommended in PLO quiz RIO vid to re-test yourself and that serves to keep things in your memory much more effectively)

let's see how the goals went for week 1

7346 / 10k hands
Unhappy with volume, Did the standard poker player thing of getting owned in 3 sessions in a row then missing a day or two of solid volume. Something to work on!

3/3 Hands posted on in SSPLO Also added a few guys on skype and some have been super helpful in bouncing ideas off of each other

1/3 Gym sessions Was super sore after first workout in about a year, then me + gym partner had two days each of excuses and ta da week is gone.

3/3 45+ minute Treadmill sessions Really enjoying treadmill hopefully this week I can up it in days since I can watch RIO vids while speed walking, only ****ty part is I need an ipad instead of my phone to make it easier on my neck

3.5/1 Fast food meals 3x meals, one milkshake - gross part is this is down from the usual but still terrible for my health and needs to stop

My +/- weight since starting thread : -1 lb

Same goals for next week except for volume I want to aim for 5k hands since I am gone Fri, Sat, Sun for a funeral and will overall make this a week of study and building confidence and knowledge in PLO.

Pro tip: Turn your losing session into a gym session. It's a great way to burn off some steam, make sure you hit your fitness goals, and clears your head so you don't come back and tilt off a bunch of buy-ins at a latter session.

Also, congrats on shedding a pound! I have no idea what your health/physical fitness is like, but shedding a pound a week is great in terms of long term goals.

Good luck next week!

Thanks man, with the gym I try to go early in the morning or late at night ( much less people than during the day) but have always found it super hard to motivate myself to go, have tried gym partners but usually they are friends with similar lazy traits as myself :P The one lb albeit better than a gain unfortunately isn't very good progress, I believe overall my goal is -70 lbs, no set date but it's the amount I want to lose to get to a reasonable comfortable weight I used to be ( 3 years ago I was a size 32 jeans , I am currently a size 40)

Also somehow messed up funeral / family weekend , it's the 30th weekend not this upcoming weekend so my goals are still in tact and 10k volume is the goal, not 5k

As for today, small uneventful 2PLO session , watched a couple of Galfond videos. Found some old Tom Coldwell videos that are very highly rated and talked about but they are from 2014/2015, plan to watch them and see if I can still take effective information from them.

I have to admit it's funny how almost all of the PLO threads are big jumps up and down in stakes, goes with a game I suppose (were not degens right?.. right?)

Time to chill and watch the better call saul season 3 finale , super pumped

Alright so with the days I booked off for funeral I got a nice schedule of 10 days in a row at work so looks like in part due to being super tired and in part due to me being too lazy to energy drink up and push through most my goals won't get completed this week- BUT I still think this week I bettered myself as a PLO player and didn't fall too hard off the wagon health wise. Next week we'll aim to do better !

Today was essentially the only decent session of playing I got in ( 2 tabled zoom and focused a bit to ease back into grinding)

Have been grinding RIO videos while laying in bed after work , even though they are old and a bit out dated been watching a lot of Tom Coldwells videos on RIO since I really like his video style / teaching style and taking what I can from the videos.

Some hands from today

Not sure how I feel, I figured the 3b' would be strong AAxx which I don't have great equity vs but felt if he could show up with any other combos I was doing alright

Will post goals checklist tommorow after hopefully a nice big session of PLOs

Well couldn't sleep last night so I was up bright and early and regged some mtts to half ass grind while catching up on forum stuff, got 6th in $4 omania - came into top 10 with short stack and rode out my 10-15bb stack, sucks to not get a good finish/top 3 but oh well ran good to FT. Also won a $1.5 45-man for $19 last night

Leaving for work soon - hopefully get in a PLO cash session tonight if I have the energy,

let's see how the goals went for week 2

3066 / 10k hands

2k hands at 2 PLO , 1k at 5PLO

1/3 Hands posted on in SSPLO
No excuses I am on forums enough I should be replying to all SSPLO threads

0/3 Gym sessions
Gym is a no go for now, can't afford a pass and my trial ran out - going to focus in coming weeks to add in a ab workout + pushup/dumbell lifts at home after treadmill sessions

2/3 45+ minute Treadmill sessions
Working 10 days in a row have been sleeping early at night and late into the morning so haven't been motivated to use my little free time on treadmill - hopefully I change that this week

2/1 Fast food meals
down from last week, have been so tired after work that I don't feel like stopping to grab fast food , guess that's a bonus ?

My +/- weight since starting thread : -1 lb
No change this week, thought I would have put the lb back on

Alright as for next week goals - (gone thurs night ,fri, sat, back sunday night)
5k hands
3 treadmill 45min+ sessions (out of the 4 days im home)
Fast food goal is none while home, whatever happens in the 15+ hrs of driving for funeral happens
3 PLO hands to comment on in SSPLO
*adding - watch at least 2 training videos (won't have much, if any access to internet while I am gone (rip) )

Let's have a good week that lacks a ton of failure,
something that has added some motivation to me is a clip from Fedor holz talking on Dougs channel about how he has had people tell him they want to be the best poker player but they might put 2-3 days of poker in a week and he said that is fine but you can't say you want to be the best if you are going to half ass something, and he went on about how for the 5 years of him coming up and playing as a pro he essentially put in 12 hours a day of playing, studying, thinking, talking about , breathing poker -

YOU HAVE TO WANT IT. TIME FOR ME TO FOCUS UP!

Congrats on some good tourney scores! That will seriously help speed along with moving up stakes. You should do more of that.

Just wanted to share this with you in regards to some of your goals, specifically the health related ones, and you can take it or leave it. About a year and a half ago I was having a hard time coming up with a routine for my workouts and I read this blog post by Scott Adams on Goals vs. Systems, and it really made something click in my mind, and maybe it can do something similar for you, or not, but nothing gained is nothing lost.

Yea the tournament scores never hurt!

Thanks for the article bud ,

Yea I know the key to getting into or back into a healthy lifestyle is more so about making everything a habit and just part of your day to day life as opposed to forcing yourself to do things and setting unrealistic expectations and goals. My problem currently is just not making health a priority, I look at a block of 1 to 1.5 hrs of free time and working out is just super far down on my tier list of how to spend that time, which is not entirely a problem now but if I maintain being ~60 lbs over the weight I want to be it can cause a lot of problems in the future. (plus I'm sure it will be better for my mental health to get back to a good weight)

Back in HS I played div 1 football and in a hockey league on the side and was in (relatively) super good shape and happy to work out 5 days a week / practice 5x a week / games etc because it was my biggest ambition and now working out just feels like an annoying task since I want to focus on my other dreams and passions and I am super all-in on things. Slow and steadily plan to incorporate healthy living back in and having it not feel like such a chore though. Treadmill has been going well lately since I try to keep all my podcasts and youtube videos for just when I am exercising instead of sitting at the computer wasting time watching vids.

Another week gone, very stressful week IRL with family issues / funeral / etc only got about 2 sessions in for ~2k hands and won a few buy-ins. Going to put this week in the past and move forward since every goal is going to be a flaming pile of failed,

Good luck to everyone out there grinding, day to day grind as well as the poker grind - we're all going to make it

was 4/18 in $5 hyper ~$850 up top if I won that hand I would be big chip leader , for the last ~5k mtts i've played feels like this is the result on every final few table shots I get but oh well! At least we're break even instead of negative on the day, going to game for a bit then fire up a PLO session

month so far graph below, today I felt great, started around hand 2900 quickly won some buy-ins , scored ~$30 in a small mtt on side and then just a downhill session, I think one thing I am missing value with is auto piloting too much - it tends to be my coping mechanism when I feel I am running bad so that my emotions don't affect me and I end up just tanking my non showdown and steadily losing /missing value for the rest of session

Have energy and would happily play more but forcing myself to stop for the night after about 2k hands

Sometimes I wonder why I love / insist on playing tournaments x) Sundays when I get the rare day off work I feel like it's mandatory for me to play since I just love the grind / massive soft fields etc

Today though, we got punished - I feel I ran pretty bad, built up a 3x avg stack going past late reg in the storm + built a 40k stack when avg stack was 10k in the hot 11 , both ended in roughly min or min+1 cashes losing big flips but I'm sure there were spots I could have played much better in my other tournies.

Luckily the PLO gods had my back and wanted to show me the path to what game type to play on sundays

Guess that evens out being ~$35 under ev this month

Played longer after posting last night and won a bunch of ev and a little bit more $$$

not a bad day at the tables!

Also got bent over with chests, opened like ~6-7 and probably got $4 tops added together from them all, but that is to be expected. Amaya can smd unless they load one of my chests with $1k I might make slightly less salty posts towards them

I haven't played on starts since like 2010, and have no idea what these chests are that everyone has been talking about (seems like some sort of lottery system), but nice job on the cash game wins! Keep those up and you won't need any chests.
