Villain is one of the aggro regs at this limit, so pretty sure he bluffs missed draws otr. What do you expect him to call otr when we bomb it? He doesn't have TP good+ kicker imo, so we kinda hope he has Q2/22, don't think he opens 52/82 cus he only opens 70% SBs iirc. It's not like we're losing the hand often to better, it's just that he rarely has a hand that can call down so I prefer to bluffcatch this instead

Yeah, I know. When you're down 6 BI in couple hundred hands, you just gotta spew some more Don't hate flop float facing 1/3 sizing tho as we have some turns that improve our hand, especially if UTG cbets AK (which looks like he did), plus had BTN tagged as a weak fishreg. It's not my std lines at all tho, was just mashing some buttons being slightly tilted.

Thanks.

Hands like that q10 just **** up your winrate. Also the 88 hand 3bet pre, as played river would go bet>X/R>X/C you essentially have the nuts not sure why you'd want to use this as a bluffcatcher! Q6 & Q2 = 24 combos then 22 is another 3 combos. Missing so much value when he has these hands.

Those bet when X'd to, so not really missing value from those combos

About pre; we're 140bb deep, vs a reg who opens 70% so I think 88 can go either way, would 3b if shorter or he opened more hands. Not saying it's necessarily right, but that's at least my thinking for now

Not gonna write a whole lot more than what I've done about check vs bet otr, but as Sauron says we should get a bet out of those 2pr hands that are calling the river either way, plus the amount of bluffs he's gonna have. Also, I think Q6 is a cbet for him most times on this board (Q6s with bdfd), while Q2 prob checks back most of the time (altho Q2s bdfd also a good cbet imo) so I don't fully agree that he has that many combos of Q6/Q2/22.

Initial plan was to XR river when I checked. Main reason for not XR'ing river now is his sizing, as I wrote when hand was posted he's polarized when he goes that big and I've played 800 HU hands with him so should have some idea about his game. Plus we're still 120bb deep otr, so it's not like hes calling off wide to a jam, and I expect him to fold river very very often. I know it's a bit having monsters under the bed approach, and might miss some value otr mainly from 22, but he can still have 97cc/74cc/43 that didn't bet the flop, or QQ

Obv calling pre is fine but 3betting is better. Look at his fold to 3bet not just % he opens. I'm going to say he way over folds to 3bets given he only opens 70%.

You just need to count the combos you lose to. Whats your reasoning for him not c betting 79cc and 74cc (ps it's only two combos) if he opens 70% he might even be folding 34o pre. This means you lose to 4combos of 34 and 1 combo of 79cc and 1 combo of 74cc if he doesn't cbet them. Therefore if he has q2, q6 or 22 you are just missing value it's that simple. You can't be results orientated and think it's a good play because he had you beat.
Anyway, good luck at the tables!

Not saying 97cc and 74cc aren't cbets, but 50z regs (and myself obv), play pretty far from 'perfect' HU poker. Just had a quick look at villains DB, and found him check back 76s on x95 flop with gutshot+bdfd, so it surely happens. I view him as a good reg tho, so there are many 50z regs with far more/bigger leaks that will frequently check back gutshots/bdfd/etc.

But yeah, can agree with you that we're missing some value otr in the end, I can admit I didn't think about all of the worse value hands he can bet otr, was more focused on him not having strong Qx hands, so when he bets big otr (his avg size is 65%) I thought he's betting a set (22) or stronger, or bluffing.

Thanks, appreciate your posts

Only played 2hrs yesterday, won $120 mainly at HU. I'll try to play a decent amount of hands this week before christmas, and hopefully we can close out the year with some winning days!

2016 results

Year is over, results are in. It's been a year relying a bit too much on rakeback earnings compared to what I made at the tables, but it is what it is. I'm not throwing in the towel just yet, keep the dream alive for 2017! Or at least until PokerStars changes will crush my soul again So in totals I made $4500 at cash, but think I spent over 5k at various stuff so BR isn't the healthiest at the moment. Either way, let's go 2017!

It's hard to discern much of a pattern in those results. Do you plan to focus on a particular format and stake level in 2017, or will you keep bouncing around to prevent boredom? Keep the dream alive!

I'll keep playing zoom cash and switching between 6max/HU depending on how I feel at the time. I need to gain some confidence back at the tables tho, as my last couple of months have been pretty mehh. I was peaking at $2300 mid october at HU, then played bad/tilted for the rest of the year so deserved to drop those buyins in the end. No excuses tho, I need to work harder on my game to be able to beat 2017 games, but I'm staying positive and think I can still do it

As for stakes played I'm not sure what the plan is yet, will have to build the BR up again from the withdraws I did in 2016 and take it from there, but hopefully can play all hands at minimum NL50 again soon, stop withdrawing and build some momentum.

Decided to move some of my roll to 888, I like the software and combined with 888caption (check software forum) it's a pretty nice site. I'm not sure about the games at NL50 and above, but I've gotten on some very soft NL20/NL30 tables. Played with a whale yesterday who dropped $365 over 900 hands of NL20/NL30 Was lucky to get a seat with him at all four tables he played, got into some funny hands as he ended up playing 53/31/25 vp/pfr/3b and was really bad postflop plus he got more and more tilted after losing so he loosened up.

Couple hands vs the guy:

First real hand vs him, wasn't sure what his sizings meant yet so decided to hero down, in hindsight this is bad tho as he bet 1/2 pot ott a lot with weaker holdings later on.

A bit late to the party on this one, but I've ordered the Mental Game of Poker book and look forward to checking that out. Hope it'll help me put in some volume, reduce tilt and work harder.

Played two sessions at Stars today, fortunately I keep running good there so BR is rising again. Currently up $500 for the month. I'm trying to keep more calm at the tables and finding/evolving more of my A-game. Keep working hard on betsizings postflop, I think that's more and more important as the games are getting tougher.

Stars so far this month:

I'd imagine HU must be the most challenging format if you have any mental leaks.

It definitely can be, yeah. It's easy to start mashing buttons and autopilot your C-game or worse, as I did from mid October until recently

HU is a pretty exhausting format since you're always in hands making decisions, but it's also the most fun to play imo

I can handle runbad where I'm donating to various villains but I think having that happen against 1 villain would affect me. I'd be in full on grudge mode

I can actually relate to this at 6max tables if there's a huge donating whale I'm losing pots to (like the swede whale at 888 the other day), but don't think I've felt the same at HU. Might be cus we're all fish at HU 50z, so you don't feel any better than your opponents

Up $735 at Stars for the month, playing good at 50z and terrible at 16z, it's like every time I play that stake I'm going full spew mode. Not sure why, but I guess it's something like "lol 16 dollar stacks, arrrrr in" It's fun tho, just mashing some buttons there while trying to play my best at 50z.

vs 1-tabler, idk how bad this turn card is but it's not ideal. Still, clear jam?

lol, agreed I had some lucky hands there

Yeah, variance can be a killer with this kind of rake. Small sample for the year, but my rake is up to 14bb/100 again, pretty crazy.

Sounds right, I have NL100 in my favorites tab so I keep an eye on those games and they have seemed better again recently, I've actually bumhunted almost 300 hands there this month and won half a stack

Do you 4-table if both pools are good?

Hoping to take some more shots at 100 soon, but need to climb back at 50 first.
