Why this thread anyway?
Omaha H/L never seems to get enough love from the people who matter most(sites, casinos, stakers, etc.), yet traffic seems to be growing again lately sooo I figure I'll write some random stuff about it whenever I can. It doesn't have to be all about me or anything(I'm really not interesting enough by myself ), anyone's o8 successes / failures / epic moments are more than welcome unless you anger the mods or something annoying

My main challenge/goal is simply to try grow the game of o8 and maybe have some fun in micro o8 degenaments where more people can participate. Secondary goal is to make some $$$ obvs and keep myself motivated and avoid the dreaded burnout I'm not that great with public profit goals, I've already semi-privately (with close friends) done some pretty cool personal challenges with mostly o8 for the 3 largest US-facing sites and also some stuff pre-BF. I just think the stress of a purely profit goal usually outweighs the motivation and possibly causes people to take unnecessary risks. I would put my stakes and formats, but that's a pretty wide range of stuff and changes fairly often.

As for staking/coaching/streaming/etc, I do or have done a little of each. But they won't really be the focus of this thread though because there are other subsections on 2p2 more suitable for those things. The focus will be on giving readers some insight into the (often weird) world of o8. And also a chance for them to learn and even participate in a few o8 games.

And why o8?
It's obvs more fun than any other poker variant Next question. But seriously, it's an extremely complex and interesting game from a math/logic/AI perspective. There is very little current and/or good information about it and the sheer complexity of the game prevents even the most powerful computers/AI from "solving" it for even longer than 6-max and full-ring holdem(I could go on about poker and AI for ages but I'll spare you). For newer players, the preflop hands run really close in value...and it's split-pot. So you can play like crazy and have a wild game with lots of showdowns, all without going busto in a tourney so often compared to holdem. The fields are also smaller, meaning mathematically you'll FT or even win that mtt quite a bit more often(way less variance tbh).

Who the hell am I?
I didn't get serious about o8 or poker in general until a few years before BF, busy with college + long work hours mostly before then. My dad hosted somewhat small home games when I was younger, so I was pretty familiar with most of the side games...mainly stud H/L. He did fairly well online himself during the online poker boom after many of the local live games had dried up.

Once I was old enough he got me set up on a site and started me with a $100 BR to play around on for my birthday. I did alright at smaller horse tournaments, but it soon became clear I was doing best at the o8 rounds. So I started playing the small stakes plo8 mtts and then I found the plo8 sngs. I learned so damn much about plo8 and just ICM in general by playing these. I got to be kinda profitable in these but soon ran into a crusher named AJB.

I eventually took some of my profits and chipped in on a coaching stake from him once I had some extra free time. Probably one of the smartest things I ever did poker-wise tbh. I was already fairly profitable so I was giving away some pretty decent value, but it was absolutely enlightening to be able to see the game from such an experienced point of view(also winning about 10k from a few o8 mtts in a month shortly after completing the stake helped a LOT lol). These days I can definitely hold my own against him but he rarely plays anymore, the advantage really shifts my way when it comes to sheer volume and maintaining focus for long periods of time. Youth is on my side for a little while longer at least.

After Black Friday I started back up on Merge(RPM skin?) and some shady stuff happened with collusion/irregularities against me and some other o8 sng regs. There was a big thread all about it here in 2p2 started by Gunthxxxx(the x's are numbers I cant recall atm). Needless to say I was pretty tilted with how Merge handled it so I went to Bovada and have done quite well in the o8 mtts/sngs. Very cool site and anonymous format is kinda nice sometimes, but maybe not all of the time.

After awhile I added a little volume from Merge starting sometime in 2014 iirc, and under a different name then because it was on the Carbon skin(rrroadhouse - with a peter griffin pic of course). I was ranked 1st on the o8 sng all stakes profit leaderboard on sharkscope for nearly all of the first 4-5 months of 2015 until Merge stopped reporting results to sharkscope, as far as I know the first and only US player to be ranked 1st in o8 sng profit post-BF Many months after they stopped reporting results to sharkscope, Merge restricted several winners for what they deemed "caliber of play" and I was one of the unluckiest ones to get a full 0-table permanent restriction sadly.

So I started playing more of my volume on WPN instead and here I am now :P

I'm honestly not sure what this thread will degenerate into, but I'm a bit curious to see though. Sorry in advance for any misspellings or grammar fails...it's late and I've been finishing up a few tournaments for that snc grind lol.

Lastly, Buzz is awesome!

I did terrible in the short time I played today, but toobaked just finished 3rd in the $55 plo8 mtt so that was kinda cool since it's a bit rare to see him in many mtts.

Kinda redeemed myself with a 2nd in that weekly $55 plo8 mtt, but wish it would've been a 1st though I haven't won that one(yet!) so that'll be another challenge for me.

Met my snc points goal this week, free $105 for playing o8 which is always much appreciated ^^
