Hi folks, quick bit of background for everyone which I am happy to expand on in future if anyone is interested.
  • 33 yr old UK player
  • Been playing for about 5 or 6 years - recreationally never too seriously
  • Want to improve - not to make a living or anything crazy, just to see some tangible results for any hard work I put in
  • Wisely(!) never tried to make income from poker - used to work in public health research but currently renovating a new property before finding a 'proper' job again
  • Playing 10nl zoom at the moment, rolled for 25nl but have had a fair few failed attempts at moving up and have decided I am probably just not good enough yet
  • On a good day ill get in 1-2k hands but normally nearer 500-1k maybe 3/4 times a week (i know....I am gonna be here a while)
  • Struggle to put in the study time off the tables and I know this has to change - something I definitely need help with
  • Very small winning player since started playing but nothing to write home about
  • Target to be a regular and rolled for 50nl by the end of the year ($2k+) - currently $1147
  • Failing that, lets try not to be grinding 5nl come Dec

Feel free to fire in any constructive criticism, no matter how harsh, but lets try to keep it approaching pleasant I can be surprisingly sensitive

Oh and also feel free to not give a **** about another generic PGC thread.

looks good man.

cannot really give any advice as you were fairly vague, however if I were to give any, it would be to dedicate more time either on or away from the tables.

So first few hands for roasting...

Villain is 26/22 not over aggro with 3% 3b has so far only won 2/8 showdowns but otherwise reggy. With nut blocker was happy to try and get him off a pair. I wanted to keep max fold equity on the river with psb, but given his WSD is this just pure spew?

Thanks man for taking the time to have a look, I completely agree with what you say about hands 2 and 3. The general 10nl population really dont like to fold top pair and I should know that by now.

Do you think we should decide on the flop on hand 3 that if we are going to continue we should x/j the vast majority of non 3 flush turns? I do like this line of thought. I think at the time I just didnt want to jam into a set and also wanted to give him opportunity to fire missed rivers. Maybe I leveled myself a bit though

Thought I would try and get some extra volume in as I had a spare couple of hours. Turned out not to have been a great idea!

Hand 5. Villain looks pretty nitty, but dont have a ton of hands on him. Assuming it is standard to b/f river hoping to get called by Jx or does he simply have too many flushes as played and we should check back? Cant think of many other value hands that he has to call with that we still beat and he plays this way.

Hand 6. At the time i thought we were ok to call flop and continue on clubs pairs and 9's, also to bluff on spades. Decided a medium flush might lead smallish on turn and then shove river (was x/f if river was another spade). Once he only calls turn is this ok or just too aggro if we dont have a spade ourselves?

Ok so ran a quick analysis on the A6o in hand 10.

If we say by showdown he can only have AA,JJ,AKdd,AQdd (last two to account for some odd bluff/value merge - could also assign 2 pure bluffs instead but w/e) then we are actually at 33% to be good with a call which means we are easily priced in.

We can debate ranges etc by the river but this just really surprised me. Given the line he takes in the hand I think its safe to assume he is not the greatest - give him only 2 exact bluffs and we have to call...

Meh, another quick session. Nothing too much happened other than a bad AA hand and what quite possibly was a bad bluff.

Let me know what you all think.

Do we fold river here or can we ever for turn vs this particular player - seems recreational.

Another sad session, a bit of an unwanted theme at the moment! Mostly just not hitting tonight and finding spots where we have to fold over and over again. Think it was fine in 95% of situations though just couldn't get anything going - so nothing to worry about too much.

My advice is:

* Dont have a bluffing range, only checking and value.

* Chase the fish, thats where the money is made. All regs spend more time than you and will be superior.

Follow these above until NL25-50 ish.
( If u want to make money )

If you just want to improve and play NL10.

Then study, but you wont make any money.

( You remember what i wrote to KP )

Its a choice a semi rec has to make, improve or make money. Cant do both really. Imho.

Best of luck

I think zoom was a mixed blessing tbh, helped me increase volume but obviously made it more difficult to identify how to play Vs particular opponents. It's an obvious thing but I almost hadn't realised I was doing it as daft as that sounds.

Whilst I know I will have made a fair few mistakes I didn't feel I played terribly at all, just on the wrong side of subtle variance and a couple of set ups.

Im guessing everyone thinks this is absolutely fine...

I think I have spotted a big leak of mine though. In some situations I will put far too many bluffs into my opponents range, especially considering population and specific players. This leads me to calling down lighter than I really should. Some examples...

Grinding away steadily over the last few days nothing too interesting other than an updated graph!

Not managed to get too much poker in recently but the small amount I have has gone well. I have changed my approach slightly in general but more specifically to the lines I take in certain hands. So far it has helped me avoid too many difficult spots and in the long run will help my non-showdown too I suspect. Still alive and kicking

BR now £1300ish and feeling confident now so going to mix in some 25nl too in upcoming days.
