Had a week off of my work and decided to fly to my home town Vancouver, BC. They say it's the city of rain and it's true, every day since I got here it's been raining lol
anyways obviously going to be playing some poker here. There are tons of casino in BC, Edgewater, Starlight, Hard Rock, Grand Villa, but I've only really been to River Rock Casino. So first night back and I made the trip to play before seeing my friends in BC
*poker addict*
This is actually the first Poker room I started playing poker in over 7-8 years ago. Used to be a $1-2 games and I remember buying in for $50 and trying to get a quick double up "Hit & Run" and when I win i feel like a boss
but haven't really played much here in recent years. There are $1-3 games now and couple tables of $2-5 games. Since $2-5 game doesn't run in Calgary I felt like playing the $2-5 game. There were two table and main table was the table every player was trying to transfer to. The secondary table was the one I got placed on, I put my name on the list as well but I was last to transfer so probably not gonna make it until much later.
Maybe it was a week night, but the table I was at half the player are pretty solid reg and the other half are older players who barely plays any hands but still kind of knows what's going on. The skill level at my table was way better than a Calgary $2-5 game. I heard there are a lot of decent regs as well playing in Vancouver. I bought in for 500$ but the rest of the table were in for $1000 to $1500. So pretty sure I have a bankroll disadvantage here. I was okay playing short stack and just my game, got in a lucky spot and got a double up and had to leave for dinner. Pretty sure that wasn't the best table, could play the five $1-3 games that is running and much weaker opponents and I also don't like playing short stacked. but glad I came out with an "W"
The next night I decide to take a drive up to Grand Villa. This is the casino I heard that has really good action. Got to the casino which is 40 min away, super far drive. The Casino is super elegant and I was impressed.
I found my way up to the poker room in the second floor. It's not even a room, it's this little corner on the second floor. Maybe it's also because it's a week day, but only 6 poker tables available and 4 tables running.
Anyways I sat down with $300. Also a $1-3 games, I think it's all $1-3 game minimum in Vancouver area. I realize the players are significantly inexperienced right away. Of course there are your standard two to three regulars at each table that are decent but some players were calling all In's with top pair low kicker
I ran pretty good and hit a set vs Top pair and cashed out 700$. Overall I like the room but I wish the poker area is bigger and more attractive.
Took a day off to chill with friends and the next day I am back in River Rock poker room. Thursday night, 5 tables of $1-3 running and one table of $2-5. I looked at the $2-5 and average stack size is like $1300 and the game doesn't seem good. so I stuck with playing the $1-3 which actually has some decent action. Played only two hours tonight and ran really good again. Got unlucky on my first hand but I made the lay down when he hit, and again my table was actually the table everyone wanted to transfer to but I just got placed on that table right away as a new player. There was this pretty girl playing (not sure if people are transfering to the table because of the girl or the other players) but all the other players are all focusing on the girl and not focusing on playing poker. I can tell a lot of these people are pretty rich people and the stake is small for them so it's just entertainment for them. Couple of people stacked off with top pair no kicker and one guy jam with middle pair putting me on a draw. Made a good cash out and went 3 for 3 on my west coast trip
still here for a couple more days but prob not going to play anymore poker. Need to spend some time with families and friends and despite missing weekend I think I can use a break, especially after winning three sessions it feels good to let the win sink in. I might actually consider moving back to Vancouver in the near future so definitely gonna keep an eye out on the poker scene in this town.
