Re: my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right

Ok, new month, new chances fellas. Itís time to put in some serious volume really. Now is the time do so. Probably will have quite some work to do for school starting from April until almost the end of June. I leave in 3 weeks for a one week holiday to Tenerife, so time for some serious grafting now. I plan to play 5 days a week for the next 3 weeks. Definitely taking Tuesdays off, there is just not much incentive for me to play on Tuesday really since itís the toughest day of the week by far. Also gonna skip Thursday/Friday depending on how I feel to be fresh for the weekend. I currently have played +- 375 mttís for the year, so Iím looking to pass the 1k mark before I leave. Very tough goal, but itís better to aim for the stars. I will be happy if I get in 500 though as well. Iíve sketched a very hasty schedule of what my day is gonna look like. Probably will start regging at 5 pm late regging 8r, b5 etc on stars and play on till H44. In the past, and even now, Iíve skipped the late night turbos way too often, and itís just silly to do so. My sessions usually end between 2 & 4am, so there is really no good reason to not play those turbos as well. Last non turbo tournament will probably be around 9pm though. There arenít much good non turbo tournaments after that imho that are worth playing.

So far year isnít too bad. Got in almost 300 mttís in February, while not playing one week and a half due to holidays & live donkaments. Average buy in is hovering between 35 & 40$ based on my PT4 stats. EV bb/100 winrate was actually very good this month; I hit 9bb/100 which I am very happy with. Post ante winrate also at a solid 6bb/100.

Monthly goals (more like 3 weeks)
[ ] Go to the gym 3/week
[ ] 500 games
[ ] EV bb/100 overall >7
[ ] EV bb/100 post ante >5

Very excited for these next 3 weeks. Letís ****ing go.

Sorry to hear how bad you feel bro. The variance is real and it kills. I think the hardest part of being an MTT grinder is dealing with the mental aspect of it. Because prolonged variance, negative or positive can have a direct affect on your game and potentially even your processes. The worst part of run bad is like you say, when you run bad in the high equity spots.

We all know the dangers of being results orientated. But, when results trend in a negative way for a prolonged period of time it is natural to ask questions.

It ****ing hurts and I know where your coming from mate so don't worry. Keep doing your thing. Self belief is pretty crucial. but it is easier said than one.

I know you know all this anyway. but still, the way I see it is this, if your a good MTT player you WILL do well in the (****ing) long run...

IF....

....

you can fade GOING INSANE.

so if you can keep your head on, you will be fine

best of luck and hope to see you HU in some red thing soon!

Thanks a lot. Yeah obviously I know all of this, but sometimes it feels good to get these things of my chest. It's done now, being a whiny brat isn't good for anyone.

In other news, I did my first 85km of the year on my race bike on sunday morning. It was the 'omloop het nieuwsblad for cycling amateurs/recs'. Included some minor hills and a few cobble stone sections. Was quite exhausted towards the end. Think I gained some power by going to the gym more regulary though, so I am exicted to see how I'll develop this year. Last year, I was getting in a really good shape, improving a lot of PR's on hills etc and then had to quit due to a knee injury. Fortunately, this seems to be resolved now. Wasn't really plus ev for the pokerz by the way, because I was ****ing exhausted when I got back home, watched a cycling race, then took a 2 hr nap and played a small'ish session with only the really good value mtt's. Only lost 1k, so maybe it was a good decision after all. (ha DUCY)

No, you definately don't need to thank me for the hard work I did for you on top of the peloton!

Hey man! Why not try to diversify your online grind with some cash/sngs? Long downswing stretches are super standard with the kind of fields your grinding and will take a toll on anyone. I was in a similar type of grind as you a couple of years back, and had difficulties coping with the mtt life. Now I play mostly cash, with some MTTs(NL, PLO/PLO8, Mixed) and SnGs. This worked out very well for me, and you should def give it a try. Subbed and gl

Good luck man, I only play micro/low stakes but can relate to what you're going through variance wise. You seem like you have a good game and you've just gotta keep grinding away a sample and eventually you'll get a really big score!

I guess all I can really say is keep being healthy, exercising, playing your best etc!

Re: my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right

Good first day in the books. Started sunrunning halfway session, building stacks EVERYWHERE. Got 2nd and two times third. Obviously can't really complain, but for having run so hot, I still was kinda unfortunate in the endgame in a lot of them timbeys. Not going to whine though, happy with my play + volume and let's hope this is only the tip of the iceberg for the upcoming 3 weeks. Winrate was through the roof, you can really see at what point I started sunrunning. Unfortunate to still not being able to close one, has been ages. Will get them tmrw.

Saved some cool hands (iirc), but it's 4am here so will post them tmrw.

Button clicking hand of the day tho

Re: my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right

Ok 2nd day in the books. Woke up somewhat later than I expected, that resulted in me going to the gym later than anticipated, which then lead to me starting at 6pm instead of 5pm. I ran like absolutely dog**** on pokerstars (what's new lol) but managed to find some heat in the 109 drago on party. Eventually chopped it with yugiohpro. Was quite funny, party has a weird dealing system, and we both were playing a lot of tables at the time. Since I had a small chiplead, and the tourney ends immediately after a deal is been made, I took 1st, which makes it my first mtt win for the year. Very very happy with that, also because I believe it's my first win in a 100+ buy in too, even though I fire them almost daily. That was about it, even though I regged the late night turbos on stars while I only had 2 tables left. Gotta show some ****ing heart, right. Super happy with how I've been playing so far

Taking tmrw off, doing some stuff for school, maybe go over a few hands I marked, and have a poker-free evening, refueling for the weekend. Planning to grind for the first time in ages again on saturday, we'll see how that goes.

Decent first two days.

Winrate today, ouch. basically the whole discrepancy is caused by pokerstars, ran breakeven'ish on eurosites.

PS: I really pity those who only grind pokerstars LOL. This is since new database (september last year) ABI 30-35

Only way one can win at stars.

Haha, I've tried my fair share of doing that. Cashgames just make me tilt 10 times worse, dno exactly why, maybe because I'm insecure in a lot of spots too. But usually one or two dumb plays from villain get me going bad. Played sng's for the first years in my career, have played enough of them and value is pretty bad nowadays in most of the sng's anyway. thanks though!

Yeah for sure. Mindset is also super important. I feel like having a goal (regging until midnight makes me not wanting to quit earlier) is def helping so far. I started pretty bad both yesterday & today, but felt perfectly fine because I knew there were still a lot of mtt's left and I was playing well, so usually it should only be a matter of time before I start to build stacks

Cheers all, really appreciate all the support!

Re: my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right

Meh almost got them, 20th & 30-something with 20k+ 1st up top. Lost both of dem flips which would have put me in a very good position, but whatever. One day, I'm gonna win those. Build a lot of stacks, played pretty well, and didn't lose that much, so can't be too dissatisfied. pbb back at it tomorow, gotta show hearttt.

Bonus fun hand from yesterday. Keep in mind this was the very first hand I played yesterday, awesome way to start a session imho.

First week is done, two more to go. Put myself in good spots to make good money, I can't really do much more.

Re: my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right

Today's session felt like such a waste. Had to do some unexpected stuff for school to begin with. I also decided to grind at a friend's place, which is def not GTO. Didn't have my own 27" screen, some software was missing on my laptop, laptop pretty slow in general, etc no suprise I only mincashed two timbeys, and cut my session short. Only played like 15 mtts, and I felt pretty stupid about it. def makes me reconsider future sessions. These half long sessions just aren't working for me, and I've played way too many of those last year too. I am going to try to play quality long session IF I decide to play. This means regging pretty early and not quitting before late night turbos. If I am going to play, I have to do it the right way ffs. I rather take the evening off than have any more of these half long sessions.

Anyway taking tmrw of as planned, and planning to give it my all on wednesday and thursday. Really looking forward to putting my heart in for more than 100%. I still have an awful lot of love for this game, but it's just super silly to have such an amateur attidude somtimes. Booked a relatively small loss (-600) and reached 175 mtts for the month already.

Will try to post some interesting hh's tmrw, also pbb going to give away a recent HH of a tourney I went deep in/binked to first x people who react after one of my next posts. Not 100% sure about it yet, but think it's a cool way of giving back to the community and maybe I'll get some interesting perspective on some hands as well. Having an open mind about different thought processes in poker is one of the most underrated things in poker imo. I, myself, have been guilty of it for far too long as well. That's about it for now.

Re: my 2016 mtt pgc: doing things right

Heh the grinding at other ppls places always turns out that way for me as well...just so rarely a good idea .

I used to have the same issue with getting over MTT sessions super early and would waste like 1/2+ of a day playing some stupidly low # of games; have gotten better about that though which is nice

GLGL Wed/Thurs, hoping to do the same myself those days!

Ok, some - hopefully interesting - hand histories as promised. Going to classify them in different groups.

Possibly misplayed ones

Spoiler:

Interesting ones which I am not sure about
Spoiler:

Some herocalls
Spoiler:

Cold decks/sick spots
Spoiler:

FT/ICM spots
Spoiler:

Also going to give away a full handhistory of my recent 109 chop on party to the first 3 people who react after this post. Might do this more in the future. Super excited for tmrw's grind, took the whole day off and spent some time with family/friends so I feel mentally fresh again to grind hard for the next 2 days.
