Alright guys here's an update.

Feel like crap today and am sick. Played the $10 Megastack Hyper and got 4s in vs KTs and the runout was A3A36 with the river giving the guy a flush.

Played a $10 SNG and cashed in 3rd for $18 with Ac4s in the BB as short stack of the 3 facing SB jam with Ts7d and he rivered a ten.

BR update: $325

forgot to mention I also played PLO8 at a limit table. Never played limit or PLO8 cash games so it was kind of weird. There was no max buy in either I don't think. Didn't go too well lol but I didn't play too long. I got confused on how low hands worked. I thought if the board was 8445 and I have A235 my low hand would be A2445 but I guess you only get to use one of those cards? LOL learning is fun

I think the BR corner of your window will give you both your hi and low hands while you're playing. When I dealt HILO tournaments I always looked at them from high card down, i.e. 8542A or 85421. Helped me differentiate who had a better low, especially when players shared low cards on all low boards.

Figured out that the 4/8 H.O.E game at my "local" casino is actually a limit game, which makes it a bit more enticing for me to play. I decided to try my hand at Limit Holdem this morning. There was only one table going that wasn't heads up. It was a $0.25/0.50 game. Previous to playing, I watched the video on Daniel negreanus youtube about how to play Limit Holdem. Unfortunately, it didn't work lol. I played pretty aggressively, and I was raising every hand I had the intention of playing. It was fun, but it definitely takes some getting used to lol. Anyways, I had fun and learned a lot in a brief amount of hands after seeing people winning pots with K high at showdown and stuff. I'm going to play some PLO or limit Omaha this afternoon and try and work on my mix game skills so I can get into that mix game at the casino as it runs almost every day. Good luck guys! Oh I lost about $11 playing the limit holdem game. It was tough trying to workout hands to play. I lost with Pocket TTs twice and got boat over boated, but that's that.

Had to call it quits after the PLO10 HI/LO game. I was getting really tilted. People would call all ins on the turn with nothing but flush draws and low non-made hands yet and then river it 3 times in a row against me. Heres an example.

Anyways, idk if the rake is too high or what but it's like unless you have the nut low that is also the nut high you lose money. In every pot that was split I ended up losing on average one SB, which isn't much, but it adds up and makes me not want to play the low wrap hands like A234 if I know somebody else chops I still lose money. Probably just back to regular old PLO.

Hey guys,

Hopped on early this morning as I still felt like crap and called in sick again. If I was still working food service or something I would go in as I can wear gloves and wash hands frequently, but I work in a giant refrigerator (33 degrees inside) and it is a very physically demanding job. I decided it was best for recovery to just stay home.

I was thinking about going to the casino, but i am not feeling like breathing in all that secondhand smoke will be good for me either. So, i stay home and play online.

I looked at the PLO games this morning and it was an absolute regfest. At least 3 seats on all tables were filled by the same players. I like PLO, but i am not looking to battle regs. Tournaments looked okay, but the best ones were out of the BR. Finally, I decided to go play some NL holdem.

I prefer 9 max games since blinds come around really fast in 6 max, but there was only one 9 max game going, and it was at NL10. So, i hopped down to NL5 since I haven't played in a while, and got 3 tables going. We got Aces 3 times but no action at all (no weird PF raises, just my standard 3x). Fortunately, after 200 hands in an hour and a half, we are up $5.

More to come later today, but that's just the session update. Good luck out there guys!

I like a 3 bet PF with this hand, but I have a feeling this guy has a big pocket pair. 78s has pretty good playablilty post flop, which is why I want to see the flop. I reraise on the flop to hopefully get a crying call from TT+ I don't think he will have a set here as his PF raising range is too nitty. Also, I think that he wont 3B pre with a hand like JT. I also don't want to let him see a free card here as i would rather scoop this pot now as it is so wet and a high card could potentially crush me. Anyways, we take it down.

As you can tell, I like suited connectors. Not much to say here. It's vs the same player as hand #2. I think he could easily have an overpair or a hand like QJ or KJ and I think we rep the straight or two pair with the call on the turn. I like the raise on the river to fold out all of his busted draws. We scoop turning the draw into a bluff.

_____

Clearly, I'm no phil ivey lol but theres a couple good hands in here. Fun playing NL, but I always feel anxious playing 6 max as folding 3 orbits in a row costs 4.5 BBs, which adds up when multitabling. Good luck guys!

What’s up guys?

Hopped into a bigger tournament this morning. Played the $22 7k GTD early bird special. Unfortunately, I ran like complete crap. Best starting hand I had all game was AKo followed by pocket 5s. So, we busted fairly early as we were down to 11 BBs. Folds to button who minraises, we jam with 55 in BB and get snapped off by QQ. We get 87s in against pocket 4s and whiff. AKo cant hold against 87o. Sucks to suck. Down $22.

Hopped over to the great game of PLO. I decided to try multitabling for a change. Played 4 tables of PLO10, and I was down 3 buyins pretty quickly. I realized playing more tables meant I needed to be A LOT more selective about what hands I was playing as it’s hard to have 4 separate hands going on different games and keep focus. So, my VPIP gradually dropped from 35 to 20 on each table. There was one fish who was sucking out on me on every pot we played for, but I ended up hitting a string of lucky flops to crack aces 3 times. Played 200 hands in an hour, which would take me about 3 hours if I was just 2 tabling. Ended up +$9.70 on this brief session.

Planning on playing more when my girlfriend heads to work, but I won’t be playing this evening as I am meeting up with my dad to watch the UFC fights tonight. More to come, and possibly some hand histories. Good luck out there, guys!

well I hopped back in and played another 300 hands tonight, but I got absolutely wrecked. Sets over sets were sprinkling around all over the place. At least 4 times. And then I get one hand in on the turn with the nut flush and this guy calls me with nothing but a set and no FD/SD and the board pairs of course. Down 5 buy ins in that session on top of the $22 from this mornings tournament. Brutal day for us. I think tomorrow I just need to study some more and review my hands and go from there before the roll disappears. NOT IDEAL

5 buyins in a day, plus 1 mtt buy-in , is perfectly standard from time to time... I wouldn't sweat it too much. Try working on your mental game.

What’s up guys?

Completely terrible session today. Jesus Christ.

Played 2 SNGs for $3-5 and cashed 1 out of 2 for a profit of $3.50. Hopped over to PLO after a short break and just got completely demolished. My VPIP was below 20. I was playing tight and aggressive, I waited for my strong hands and literally got sucked out on by these dumb donkeys over and over. I know, I know, my mental game, etc. But listen to these hands. I am writing this right after the session and didn’t tag them, but here are the cliff notes.

1) Jam AATK ds on the BTN pre after a 3bet and 4 bet by other players, both call. SB has QQJ9 and MP has 5566ds. Runout comes AQQ58 so our nut boat gets shipwrecked by quads.
2) I get AJQ8 ss (clubs) on the BTN, folds to me and I pot. One taker in the SB who 3 bets and I call. Flop KQJ two spades. He bets 1/2 pot, I call. Turn T clubs. He pots, I jam, he calls with AA56ds with spades. River is 9 spades and he hits the flush with nothing to go off of but an overpair. I mean on that board I can’t imagine floating like that with nothing but a draw. Whatever
3) KKQQds pre in SB. UTG bumps it up to pot, 2 callers, I 3 bet, 2 callers in SB and MP. Flop 35Q rainbow. I check, UTG pots, MP 3 bets, I just go with the 4 bet jam, SB and MP call. SB has A257 ss and MP has ATKJ. Turn is a 4, no sweat. Nice 4 outer bud. Great call.

IDK what’s been going on. I wait my turn and holdout for my strong hands, hit flops or go to the turn to be a massive favorite and then just __BINK__ all hope is gone and I get felted by some goofy hand who’s only hope is to hit a draw or get called by non nut hands that somehow find a way to fly across a rainbow to land in a pot of gold. WTF? Y U DO DIS 2 ME PLO?????

Sorry for the vent guys. It’s just these downswings are so brutal. I run the hands through the quity calculator or check the hand equities as PT4 displays them after the hand to find my equity to be far superior when the shove occurs only to get felted and have variance bending me over as I reach for the soap I dropped.

I set the trap perfectly and somehow it gets sprung on me. Oh, right, mentality.

Played 3 $2 SNGs last night, cashed one for break even payout. Played PLO 10 and again couldn't get anything going.

As of now, I am moving back down to NL5 and PLO2 until I can get the BR back to $200. Tournaments will be limited to $3 or less and not playing more than 2 per day (usually only play on weekends). Going to do a lot more studying and leak tracking to try and find where I am going wrong. I look forward to playing more, but I need to control the swings a bit better and get back to playing solidly.

Thanks guys

What’s up guys?

In regards to the earlier post, I had a bad night. And, to be honest, I was watching Youtube videos on how to beat roulette with two different betting patterns – one playing colors and one betting on the inside. Unfortunately, there was a 12 number streak of black as I was betting red and lost just about the rest of the bankroll. I redeposited enough to get me up to $150 and that’s where I am at. In hindsight, I feel completely foolish for thinking there was such an easy way to beat a table game. I was down on myself all day at work today thinking about how stupid it was to believe in those systems. Sure, the guys on the youtube videos made it work, but it was silly to think that was applicable. After playing, I read the response to my post in “other gambling games” that I posted right before I started playing roulette. The consensus was that it was called the Martingale system and it would help alleviate variance, but you still lose $5 every $100 wagered in the long run.

I am surprised I am even putting this up on my page, but I need to be held accountable for my actions. I am truly embarrassed and feel terribly about letting that pipe dream overcome me. I am contacting ACR support tonight to see if there is a way to block the casino games just in case I ever get that urge again.

Thank you for understanding.

Onto poker.

I decided to play NLHE tonight. I got my UpswingPoker membership going (just the basic one). I looked over the PF RFI charts and the 10 PLO secrets. Both of these were very helpful. Onto the session.

Played 2 tables of NLHE5. Got about 280 hands played in about 2 hours. The first hour I played, I was in the absolute zone. I wasn’t picking up any monster hands, but I was making great reads and calls on other players with marginal holdings. I never picked up aces in this session. My best hand was KK and it folded to me in the BB. 3 bet QQ and got 4 bet and then 5 bet and I let it go, but the 4 better folded. I still think it was a good laydown. I marked a lot of hands to review. There were a few spots I completely made a bad decision, a couple spots I made great calls/value bets, and a couple spots I marked that tilted me. Here are some hands.

1) Tilt Control

- This villain had lost with AA all in preflop to QQ when the Q came on the river. I normally don’t just snap off AQ all in preflop, but I figure he’s tilted and is only betting about 40 BBs, so I make the call thinking he has a couple high cards or weak pocket pair. We were correct. We have 90% on the turn and get rivered, unfortunately. But, we stacked him a couple hands later with AQ when he jammed 56o and got more than the 40ish BBs we lost in this hand.

-Standard PF raise IMO. I bet half pot on the flop because it looks like I am trying to rep a flush but have a middle pair or straight draw. We get called, and I fire again on the turn. I think when villain calls the turn bet I should just check/call or check/fold river. I really like the villain’s call on the flop and turn. I think he missed value on the river by just calling though. That’s a pretty strong flush. Thankfully, we lose only what we bet, but it still sucks to have our flopped flush turn garbage when another diamond comes on the turn.

-Hit the royal flush at a casino the first time I ever went with AJd. I didn’t even realize I had a royal, though! Anyways, I think that villain is repping a 7 here most of the time. I do block A7, but not much else. We have T2TK, and I am thinking he either has a PP, jack, or two overs. If he had an overpair like Qs+ he would have 3 bet pre. Thankfully, we hold the baby.

-So, I think the 3bet call on pre was a bit loose. The way I played, I think I have to either jam or fold on the turn based on SPR and board texture. I played this very poorly and think I got bluffed or the villain had a two pair/set. It was very polarizing. A hand came up previously where he took the same line and put me all in on the river, and I folded. I would like some help with this one, that’s for sure.

-We get a great flop and our villain seems to have a piece of it. How much do I bet on the river, though? It seems like he would have AK, KK, or some weird high card combo that floated like KJ for a busted straight draw or something. I feel like he folds all of those anyways, so do I just bet smaller to get hero called or do I bomb it to look like I’m bluffing?

What’s up guys?

Pretty tiltworthy session tonight, not gonna lie. Just cooler after cooler to be completely honest. I played pretty well, but I felt myself tilting at the end and just had to quit. It’s just one of those nights where you just get completely annihilated and have to accept it. Good thing I was only playing NL2 short buy in on 4 tables. I started with two and added one table up to 4 after every 50-100 hands or so. All in all, I feel like I played my hands correctly and made solid reads, but I just couldn’t hold when it mattered. I have a couple hands for you guys, though, to unveil the beatdown I took. Here they are.

The villain in the SB had been 3 betting me almost every time I entered a pot, and I definitely thought he was trying to iso the short stack jam. I call and flop the set. There’s just no way I’m ever folding after that. Unfortunately, he has the better set.

Flop top set. We have the Q blocker so I am thinking we are good and up against an overpair or a FD with an ace or some pocket pair. Unfortunately, once again the turn brings us to our knees. I think if I really tanked and thought about it, I could find a fold, but we just have too strong of a hand with blockers to the boat, set, and straight.

I would normally not play this hand, but we get it limped to us in the BB. I think villains only hands he has here are overs and, 5x (A5, 56, etc). Unfortunately (I know I keep saying it), the river counterfeits our hand and I feel like it is only a bluff catcher.

As you can see, I played pretty decently. Made some great reads IMO, but we just couldn’t hold tonight. I am curious to see what you guys think. Do you agree with me? Overall, I think we played solid but the turn/river suckouts just decimated us. And, of course, my misclick didn’t help, but that’s beside the point. Thanks for reading guys. I know there was a lot of content in this post, but I played over 600 hands, which is a bit more than double what I usually play on the average night. Good luck out there, everybody! Back at it tomorrow.

You're making some big mistakes in the NL hands.

Don't call 3bets with small PP's like 44 100bbs effective. 88 is prob a good cutoff point, 77 in late position situations like sb vs bb.

I'm not doing this in order I'm just nitpicking some hands cause I'm on my phone.

J9o hand fold flop 3 handed, you have 2nd pair weak kicker. You can implement a minraise or 2.5x strategy on the btn and 3x from every other position.

Why are you sitting with 50bbs? The K9s hand you call off 10bbs with 40 behind, that's really bad. With such a stack just fold or jam pre.

Fold QJoff UTG. You're dominated often by AQ KQ KJ etc as evident by your stack off.

Shove the tens preflop, opponent has 50bbs. By calling you get into the situation you witnessed with overcards and panic jam the flop.

KJoff is a fold vs UTG.

I know the players are probably crazy and you might think KJo etc is going to play well against them, but by having that mentality you are falling into the trap of playing like they do. Construct solid openings ranges for UTG/MP/CO/BTN/SB and stick to them. Stop calling 3bets with weak hands and always buyin for full. I guarantee you'll see instant improvements.

Good luck!

I will just give the hand number and my comments on them

Hand 1: 22 is a fold vs an UTG 15bb ship and a call. Even if you are in the BB and it's folded to you it's a fold and it is not close.

Hand 2: QQ vs CO 2.5x open 30bb eff is a clear 3b. Size anywhere between 7.5 and 10bb. Shipping it in his face is just ridiculous. Sizing matters.

Hand 3: QJo in BB vs UTG open is a clear fold. We should look to defend something along the lines of TT-66, AQs-ATs, KJs+, QJs, JTs, T9s, AQo-AJo. Postflop: Don't donk into him with a hand that is not a strong fav vs villian's range. Bet/calling flop is just lol_spewy. You literally beat 0 combos of what villian can have in that spot.

Hand 5: KJo on the BTN vs UTG open is a clear fold. If you want to do anything, then 3b it, but that is also just lol_bad. However calling is worse. Flop play is standard, so is turn. River is a clear call, ship is way too spewy.

Hand 6: TT UTG is a raise/call, raise/4b waaay too loose. We an raise/4b KK+ there and maybe the occasional KQo as a bluff when the spot is right. Flop play is just horrible, but I think you know that as you suddenly deleted villian's stats for that hand. Don't say right read when you were just having sticky fingers and couldn't find the fold button.

Hand 7: QJo from UTG is a fold. I could see merit in raising it sometimes, but seeing the stats of the villians and your postflop play you are burning money by opening it. You don't flop a set, you flop trips. Also the 8d is not the worst turncard in the deck for you. It only improves QT and T7 combos, both are rather unlikely as you have a blocker for the Q and both those hands shouldn't be calling UTG opens to begin with. I like your flop sizing, you should have bet the turn and fold to a raise. If you x/c turn you must x/c that river. So as played it's fine.

Quote:

This makes no sense. You recognize the fact that you block Q, yet you are still afraid of the straight. So if you are afraid of the straight, what are you "blocking" a Q for? To me this just looks like result oriented thinking.

Hand 8: Perfectly fine fold, you should not give a single **** wether or not you got bluffed. It is irrelevant. Your equity vs villians range looks a little bit like this.

http://www.pokerstrategy.com
Board: 5d7s3c9c5c
Equity Win Tie
SB 92.31% 84.62% 7.69% { 33, 86s-85s, 75s, 64s+, 52s+, 7c6c, K5o, 85o+, 75o+, 64o+ }
BB 7.69% 0.00% 7.69% { 7h3d }

These boards don't really lend themselves well for bluffing, and it is not something that happens often on the micros. Just for good measure I put in some bluffs that are not completely impossible, but even then we do not even come close to considering bluff catching here.

Hand 9: Seriously, stop saying the read. It makes no sense to only put villian on a range of Ax hands here. The flop call is atrocious. You have very poor redraw equity and are completely dead against part of his range. Stacksizes also do not merit a float in this situation. Clear fold otf, and imo not even that much of a happy call ott either.

Quote:
I am thinking the whole time that he checks Qx here and would set a trap. We pair up on the turn and have redraws, and I am just glad our read was correct and we held this time.
Absolutely no reason for villian to set a trap with anything but QQ or QT. Pairing up on the turn does not change much and your redraws are mostly redraws to chops at best.

Hand 10: Flop call isn't horrible, but it isn't really a moneymaker either. Turn is easy fold.

Hand 11: Pre is fine. Bet flop, don't try to get fancy with x/r lines here because you are just gonna give away so much free equity which is totally unnecessary. When you do x/r you are effectively turning your hand into a bluff. It's bull**** to say you couldn't hold, you played the hand in such a way that villian should have never have gotten it in with KJ to begin with. Against the range of hands that villian normally bet/stacks off you are pretty much drawing to 2 outs.

I know I have been pretty harsh on you, but it is with the best of intentions. I have also lightly gone through other hands in this topic and it wasn't pretty. You make a bunch of fundamental errors and you're way too sticky postflop. You also seem to fall into a hindsight style of reasoning. Claiming to have reads or complaining you can't hold in situations where you shouldn't have the read you are claiming to have, or shouldn't be expecting to be ahead in the first place.

I would advise you to play 1 or 2 tables at the same time, and use the rest of your screen to fill them with range charts. So you clearly map out which hands you are gonna play in which situations. Then when you have those ranges set, you can start adjusting them accordingly. Ranges are not set in stone, but fundamentals are. Without solid fundamentals as a basis of your game, you will never be able to succesfully adjust ranges where needed. In all honesty, what you are doing right now is no more than just random button clicking.

Sorry if I came off like a dick, I'm just trying to help.

@ maxx, he was playing 50BB max tables.

Here's what I would do with each hand.

1. Fold pre. While you are closing the action, the stats for the SB lead me to believe he is fairly solid. Flatting the utg shove is really strong, at worst he has AQs. You're investing 30% of your stack to set mine in a dry side pot. Again, fold pre.

2. I'd just make it 12BB pre. Otherwise nothing you can really do.

3. Fold pre.

4. Might just limp behind or 4x to isolate. I hate the BB made it so cheap, but tempting though it might be, still probably fold. AP, calling flop but not too thrilled. Set mining small pocket pairs is great, but you want to do it as cheaply as possible. When short stacks start 3b you, your implied odds just aren't there.

5. Fold or 3b pre.

6. TT plays fine just flatting the 3b, or as nuxxx said, shove pre. Then just xf flop since you'll have way more opportunities with better hands to continue. Yes, you may fold the best hand some of the time, but, this is part of the game. Sometimes you'll get bluffed.

7. I fold the QJos pre utg and mp as standard.

8. I wouldn't raise the flop. AP this runout sucked so I probably fold, as well.

9. SB looks insanely spazzy so I might call down light here, as well. I would 4b shove though and wouldn't think twice about it.

10. Fold flop.

11. Probably just xc flop. Don't mind x jam though vs a whale.

12. Don't misclick. . It happens though just gotta shake it off.

Definitely work on pre flop range construction though. Most leaks can be fixed if you just fold pre.

+1 to Last Shot at Poker's post. Saw it after i hit submit and agree with everything in it.

Also, I hadn't changed any of villains stats. I just selected the "copy to poker forum" button in the hand history. I have no reason to edit stats or anything. I did have strong reads on my opponents as I had a decent history built with them. That said, it is clear I definitely have to work on my foundation. Thanks for the feedback guys!

I'm at work now so I can't get too in depth here. But here's my thoughts. I can freely admit I made some mistakes after viewing the above responses. Also, I know I am not a good player at NLHE. I am trying to improve, so the feedback is really appreciated. I will try to implement what I am learning into my game.

However, I did make the questionable plays with the 66 hand and the 99 hand based on the fact that I thought I was ahead and could get called by worse or just take the pot down there. This is the goal right? I want to have my opponent call off their stack with nothing, regardless if they have over cards. If I am getting it in ahead with or without a read, I am doing something right, right? It seems results oriented to think I shouldn't jam 99 on a 227 flop because I might get called by KJ or AQ or something with the possibility they could hit.i don't want to check and give a free card that could improve their hand, right? Not trying to stir the pot, I just don't understand why those were bad plays.

I had the upswing poker PF RFI charts alongside the bottom of my screen as well. K9s is a hand that was an open raise on the button. I'm not 100% sure about the QJo hand since I don't have that chart to look at right now, though.

Like I said, I have a lot to work on. If anybody could offer me some clarity on the 99 situation and why that was a bad play I would appreciate it. Thanks guys!
