Hey guys,
First day back in college today. Have an 8am class and then a break until 2pm, so I got to the gym and relaxed for a bit. Nothing too exciting as it was the first day. It was mostly just going over expectations and boring crap like that. Had to fight to stay awake, though. All day I was thinking about my hands I played at the casino on my last trip. True story.
Once again, I started off playing NL4 and moved to PLO4 after getting wrecked. And I mean wrecked. I had been playing 2 tables until this whale joined one, so I closed out the other. Guy had $15.xx at an NL4 table, so that’s a good sign. Im guessing he had left and rejoined since he wasn’t there when I started. Anyways, guy was a complete fish. Never folded a single hand preflop no joke. I did my best to isolate him as he was limping every hand PF and calling 90% of PF raises if multiway. Anyways, he luckboxed his way to stacking me 3 times. Here’s the rundown:
1) My KQs < KJo all in vs short stack, runout A234J. Yes, it’s a loose PF jam, but he had been playing all sorts of goofy hands and just throwing money out with ace highs or other random high card crap. Got unlucky on the river as he hit the three outer.
2) AQh on 9h2c7h8s2h all in on river vs 92s (I raise to 3.5BB pre UTG and get 4 callers). He literally called all the way down with 92. Nice flop for him, crappy river for me. I could have gotten away, but I river the NF and I’m not thinking he’s going to have a 9-2, 8-2, etc. hand even though I know he’s playing EVERYTHING. Just another example of why fish keep playing. They get a lucky couple of cards and think they’re good. I can think “why me?” but somebody has to pay eventually to keep the fish in.
3) My 78s vs J5o runout is 689TQ. No real rational reason for him to play J5o. No reason to call a cbet on the flop with a bare gutshot. No real reason to call down to the river. Oh well, he got there. I was laughing like WTF is this guy doing. He never raised any hands until the river, which he only did with the nut flush vs another guy.
Those were the big hands from the NL games. Unfortunately, I got stacked in all of them! I ended NL down about $8.
PLO started off pretty rough, too. First hand I played I flopped the K high nut straight on a rainbow board. Got it in vs an ace high straight draw and BDFD. He scooped. Luckily, I started running like a god shortly after. The poker gods were with me today. I won the biggest pot of my Global run today in the-the-the-GREAT. GAME. Of POT Limit Omaha. Took down a $16.82, 5 way all in pot. I have the link posted below. Play is questionable, but I had a billion outs. Ended up doing quite well in PLO! Thanks to the run good and a couple other big hands.
I was watching Mississippi Grind while playing, which is an awesome movie that highlights the ups and downs of being a total degen gambling addict. I really felt for the guy when he got 3 outted on the river and lost 10K. If you haven’t watched the movie, I would seriously recommend it.
I’m not a COMPLETE degen, but I definitely feel there is some addiction creeping in. There are really great threads on here in the psychology page about the difference of addiction/compulsion/passion. I don’t ever need to play poker. But I really enjoy it! It’s too deep a topic to cover right now, but you get my point.
ANYWAYS, had a pretty swingy night. Thankfully, the PLO gods were looking down upon me with good things in mind. Here’s that hand:

Overall, we are +$7ish on the day. Good enough for me!
