Hola all.

Well, I always considered myself a decent player, as seems to be the case with most players that start off well in the game.. I won my first targeted annual event here in Spain for a few K about 6 years ago, went online and won a few k in tourns, all at super micro stakes because Im basically a pauper and live hand to mouth. I impressed someone enough get employed by a poker site called bugys poker for a while, earning 50% rake from the initial bankroll they gave me of around 2k and playing I think 1-2 cashgames..

I was **** back then, well, I was tight aggresive against fish and it was enough to make a few quid a month. Nothing life changing and just about covered the rent for grinding 60hrs a week probabaly single tableing if I remember right.

Anyway they ended up folding and that was that..

Not much poker over here in Spain, its kinda illegal to get games going outside the casinos which isnt really my scene. So not much action in friendly bars which I would like.

So I have dabbled online. Im still broke. If Ive won a tourn ive had to withdraw and ive got nowhere.. I do realise that I simply have not had the funds to cover the swings at mtt's and its too much of a grind playing v 5000 players at micro stakes.

So I am super skint. and deposited literally 40 bucks and decided I need a new strategy, to become more focused, play my A game, do all the right stuff now and I would like to actually progress through the ranks of 6man sng's from the very bottom..

Bankroll management I know is simply imperative so I figured I play it cautious as this is my first real focused challenge. So I have started at 50c. This puts me in with 80 buy ins which is super cautious but I didnt want to play scared with for example having only 40 buys ins at 1 dollar.

My initial thoughts were to build up to 80 buys in at the next level to stay consistant. I have just achieved that after about 450 games and realise I already am questioning the best strategy.

Should I win 80 buys ins at the above level before stepping up rather than just reaching it? I wonder if in the back of my mind, if I have a 10buy in downswing at the next level straight way I will start playing scared cos my bankroll looks as though its in freefall after playing at lower stakes previously.

The other question relating to varience is that I am under the impressin that I need 1000 sng games ot give me an idea of variance/skill. So should I maybe stick at this lowest level til I reach 1000 games and then re-evaluate?

The rake makes a big difference here I realise, maybe halving your roi but I dont think that the next cple of levels make much difference to that at my stakes...

Heres my current graph in this personal challenge so far (i can show any stats):

Appreciate any advice, especially based on experience and maths

Well, I am sticking with what mentally works right now with 80 buys in to step up but will step back down if I drop to 60 buys ins.

This was my previous 500 games or so when unfocused and playing mixed games sngs' mtt's etc so I do feel I have made massive changes:

So now Im up to 80 buys in and stepping up

If you are happy to step down should you BR drop then 80 should be fine although I would normally encourage min 100 BI's

Set yourself proper move up and move down limits and you should never go broke

What games are you intending to play now?

thanks!
The bulk of these are 6man sng turbos and thats the intention to stick with these as the bulk. There will be perhaps 15% of other games such as heads up or the odd tourney from a step sng ticket

For 6max turbos IMO you're absolutely fine with 50 BI rather than 100. It's higher than the minimum BR you require to play them without worrying about the money, but 100 BI prevents you from making the most money as it'll take ages to move up. I think even with 50 BI that gives you plenty of room to play comfortably?

I agree with wilbow. You seem to be playing a good game, almost definitely a winning player unless youve ran really well so maybe drop your limit to 50BIs. If you take a shot at the next level and lose a few BIs straight off then you can always drop back down and grind back until you have the 50BIs to take another shot. It looks very likely that you arent maximising your profit potential by waiting till you have 80 or more BIs.
