Also well over half of the yearly profit from poker has come from 1 PLO session. This is not a basis to work out a decent hourly. You strategy sounds good but no one wants a mega nit at thier home game, loosen up a bit and like eazii says if it's plus ev it's plus ev, you should be raising aces with a straddle, if you see a flop 7 ways after potting your spr is going to make the hand play super easy anyway.

Don't quit your job don't nit up don't equate your hourly with a session worth half yearly profits.
Ofc I'm not equating my hourly at 160 hours to my likely hourly playing poker, which I expect to be higher fwiw. The point I'm making is that I have a nice bankroll behind me now for these stakes and can make more per hour playing than working. I'm not basing that off any results rly but rather my felt edge.

Also playing as a nit will not hinder my chances of being invited back. Game owners are desperate to have people play and I'm on very good terms with all game owners in the area. Couldn't care less what regs think of me.

You'll be busiest in the summer when everyone is basically out and having a good time.

Loads of other reasons why no variance job is better than low limit live.
All of this is purely subjective. Personally I can't think of anything worse than being "out and having a good time" during the summer. I'd much rather sit inside in the aircon lol. If I couldn't put in reps after a month long DS, I wouldn't have made this thread. I'm not some rec on a heater with pipe dreams of Vegas and the fkn Mirage. Or grinding nosebleeds.

I believe the lifestyle fits better for me than the 50 hour employee life on peasant wage. As it is I hardly go out and socialise with friends and this is purely a function of my job requiring me to be in bed at 7pm and occasionally work weekends which jams my Friday and Sunday nights up.

Been playing a little bit of 25nl lately in the evenings on Friday/weekend to stop myself from going out. Lately I get bored on the weekend and my friends convince me to go out and I spend all my money. Stayed in today and found the riddim when there was a few fish about.

^ That is playing 26/21/12 (smd clancy). And below is total giraffe for 25nl reg I have in database. Most of which is during evenings/weekends when games are juicy.

Obviously think I have a pretty decent edge in these games still but with online poker coming to an end in AU and my internet being generally ****ty, I don't think I'll play much more than every so often on the weekend.

In terms of the live poker, haven't played a whole lot lately. The home game I used to play at all the time (made $8k there since start of year playing once a week) got robbed and the owner has decided to end the game. That was by far the best game in Brisbane imo and haven't felt like going back to the horribad casino much.

Savings coming along nicely. And if I can stay in instead of going out and blowing all my dosh on the weekends, I'll be positioned nicely to make the move to Melbourne in a few months.

My boss at work thinks she has me "for life" and when I hinted at the fact I probably won't stick around for too long, she was like "I took a chance on you!" etc etc. The role I do at work is unique in that of the 60+ people who work there every day, I'm the only one who does this particular job. And with that comes a decent amount of training. Like if I were to up and leave, it would be a pretty huge burden on them since they've really only just finished training me - and it's an ongoing process, learning the ins and outs of Oracle. Feel like resigning later in the year is going to be a pretty dog move but gotta do whatcha gotta do I guess.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll be getting up earlyish, taking myself out for breakfast again as a way to congratulate myself for not going out and partying last night (lmao) - I'll probably come home and play some 25 before devising a new diet regime. I'm currently at 105kg (230lb) - have put on maybe 20kg since the start of the thread. Decent muscle and strength gains but far too much fat which can be attributed to overeating - i'm in a massive caloric surplus and starting to get a bit of a gut going. I don't like looking even slightly fat so I'm going to cut back my macros to roughly maintenance, I imagine that'll be about 3200 cals a day.

So I need to sort out meals for the week tomorrow. In the gym I've just started doing GVT, chest/squat+calves/shoulds+arms/deadlift+vmos split and I'm quite enjoying it. May even start jogging to burn a few more cals and get rid of this extra fat.

"I took a chance on you"

Well, it's pretty simple. My new job in Melbourne gives me tonnes of freetime, 2-4x the salary you are paying me.

So, give me more time and 6x my salary. And i might stay.

It's pretty simple.

( this is how you might play it out )

Best of luck man <3

Yeah tbh I think I could squeeze some more cash outta them but unless they increase wage by ~50% , which I highly doubt would happen, I won't even discuss the wage thing, it'll be a straight resignation. Gonna feel like a dog either way but they can't expect me to stay there for life lmao. That said there's a few people who have been there for over 25 years doing the exact same **** every day. Would rather kill myself tbh.

Boss asked me once, so Harvey what do you wanna do with your life? To which I responded, I wanna play poker, which I thought would be a way to ease her into the idea of me eventually leaving. She was just like oh great you can still work here and play on the weekends. I was like lol ya. Inside I was like lol nope. Ah well.

Online Poker:

So in an attempt to go out less on the weekends and as such spend less money, I've been meddling around in the 25r/50r pools of late - 6m and FR, wherever the marks are. Though the above sample is too lol to put much weighting into, I feel as though I'm playing the best poker of my life. I've definitely ran pretty average in terms of card distribution/coolers over this sample but I can "feel" how much of an advantage I have over the fish and badregs like I've never felt before. My focus of late has been getting players to fold too large of an equity share. It is a real pity that online poker is ending in AUS, but I guess I'll just play weekends til it's gg. Here's to hoping someone's planning to build an Aus-based poker site. Would be glorious and a pretty sick silver lining.

In other news, got backpaid $500 this week due to a union-wide pay increase that was apparently in effect from the start of the year. If I can stop myself from going out over the next few weekends (or if I must, spend as little as possible), I'd imagine I'm only a few months away from the 20k mark. Although I did spend $130 on an uber the other night... :/ Aside from that, all is well.

Hi Meale (and others),

this is a very interesting thread. I was considering to go for my holliday in Brisbane, now, I am not so sure, could anyone bring fresh info at CG scene in Melbourne?

From other threads it seems Sydney is quite soft & has enough traffic in these months, what is your opinion?

About me - I am a recreational player from Czech Republic / Prague, slightly profitable in live CG. So if you are ever going to visit Prague, just ask for an advice (basically Ambassador casino at Wenceslas Square is the answer :-)

Regarding Poker App, I got through a lot of them and the best by my opinion is Poker Agent for Android, basically the first app I actually paid for. It's almost perfect.

If I could offer an advice - Meale, focus more on live game at a place which is continually profitable for you, cut the hours of the regular job after you'll win more money, cut it completely after you are profitable enough.

The logic is simple - you are not going to be tired, have enough time for play which is more profitable despite variance, and most of all, this path is going to reassure you that going pro is the right choice. Just an opinion.

Hey Michael,

Melbourne has much more games to pick from. Treasury (Brisbane) has like 1-3 tables of 2/5 and 5/5 max.

Don't know a lot about Sydney tbh, but doubt it'd still be as good as Melbourne.

Cheers. I've been using one for a while now but don't think it's amazing. Will check this one out for sure.

Yeah, I've thought about this. Unfortunately I can't just cut hours at work. It's a full time job - so I either work 40 hour weeks or none at all. The reason why I haven't looked at playing more poker is that there's really no viable games around. The best homegame in Brisbane just ended and there's really only 1 game which doesn't run the games I want as often as I want. And I sure as **** wouldn't want to grind meaningful hours at the Treasury.

It is good logic, I agree. However I have a chance to acquire a variance-free BR/LR through this job and that'll give me the opportunity to do it right the first time round. It won't be too much longer anyway, 3-4 more months and then I'll look at resigning.

You are right, your plan is solid, there is not too many jobs where you can cut hours anyway.

I wonder if the life of pro CG player isn't rather sour, I've read a blog of one of ours and in three years after going full time he quite changed.

On the other note, Persuadeo probably found his way :-) BTW, I love this post about home game in New York.

So, I am going to be in Sydney between 11th and 26th of July, playing mostly at Star I believe, if anyone's interested there could be a report.

I'll think about a trip to Melbourne to try the pond as well. Sorry to hear your Brisbane action is dying, let's hope there will be some good news from these two places.

M(ark), Michael Stone is my war name :-)

They're technically not legal, but there are plenty of games that are much much better than the casino. Well worth it, imo.

Looks like you played multiple limits in one session? Net won and bb/100 also doesn't match up with the EV calcs, so yeah it'll happen if you play multiple limits and for example get stacked at the bigger one and lose $ but win more bb's at lower ones so bb/100 goes up.

Thanks mate. More HHs would require me to play more poker and aside from 1-2 online sessions a week, I really am not playing much poker at all!

Really nice results online man! Some notes from above:

1. I prefer using a simple spreadsheet to the poker tracking apps (thats me)
2. Regarding your options regarding sticking with the job, I really recommend checking out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK4sXrdn5KY. It doesn't necessarily mean I advocate recommend packing it all up, but I think you'll find it somewhat enlightening.

gl pal, gonna try checking in more!

Hey bruh,

Yeah I record everything in a spreadsheet as a back up copy on my PC. Still nice to have an app that can tell you different stats quickly and I cbf figuring out how to produce giraffes for winnings in excel.

Will check the video out once I get home.
