tyty max. Yeah, variance can be a real bitch. I'd like to say it gets easier to deal with patches of variance, but it still hurts a lot tbh. Hope things turn around for you soon

With regards to the meditating, I've dabbled a bit but have never quite managed to maintain the consistency required to really reach the supposed benefits. I know it's quite a subtle practise and, as with most things, success is not linear but is probably something you only realise you've achieved after long periods of consistency.

Could you go into a bit more detail? Your past experiences with meditation? The types you've practised/practise? Session lengths etc etc.
hey man. Thanks a lot for the kind words, i really appreciate it.

I posted this video quite a while back that i found explained the key elements as to why meditation is good for you. He also breaks it down into quite manageable chunks. Overall, consistency is the key to feeling the long term benefits of meditation. I personally advise simple meditation; no music, slowly building up time over weeks/months/years (starting with like 10 mins a day to get into the habit of doing it)

Here's the vid

Gz on good month, some of that was "streaming volume" too Mastering Mental Game and Mental Health
Random meditations obviously do have an effect however the real benefits won't really be realised unless you're doing it consistently.

I'm aiming to gain weight/size. Since starting at the gym i've gained about 8.5kg. With my schedule being super crammed I'm finding it hard to keep on top of gym/eating/studies and poker.

hahaha, tbf that pic doesn't really do me any justice. I don't think (:S) that i look that skinny irl, maybe i do though The eating is the hardest part for me. I go through periods of eating loads and then some days i'll get lazy. Doesn't help that i've got crazy fast metabolism too.

Some days later in reversed positions.

                  1. Bah, I guess I'm giving up turn.
                  2. Oh he checked back. Ugh, weird river... I kind of don't want to give up here. Bet check bet should rep a whole lot of strength. I could have x y z slowplay... sometimes. JAM!
                  3. Oh f*** he's tanking...
                  4. What?! With THAT?!

calculate your maintenance (calories you need to consume each day to maintain your weight) then add a surplus, extra 3500 cals/week should equal gaining 1lb/week on average. 1g fat = 9 cals, 1g carbs = 4 cals, 1g protein = 4 cals, break down your daily calorie consumption into a suitable diet

once you decide 1lb protein/1g bodyweight and 70-90g fat it becomes fairly simple though as those are both very reasonable assumptions. making up your diet as clean as possible is obv optimal but takes more discipline is boring etc. right now im eating 2 shakes and 2 meals of rice/chicken/broccoli a day - i forget what nice food tastes like but the results are great

                  sick month, gl.

edit: 5-6 small meals would be better but unless u have time to meal prep its not possible for vast majority of people

Thanks a lot for this info. I enjoy to cook and could do the meal prep, i've heard that is the most effective way of gaining mass. Will have to think about a schedule wrt to eating/prepping food

This is kind of the issue I have with getting into meditation through videos or guided practice. it feels really creepy or just makes me uncomfortable. it's like I can't take the teacher or the practice seriously.

If you wanna take anything away from his or anyone's meditation videos then let it be this; you don't need to be in a class, surrounded by music and the sounds of waterfalls. You just need to be alone, in a space you feel comfortable and be willing to sit with the difficult feelings that come with meditating - namely boredom.

Just start small (10 mins) and gradually build up over time. Your mental resilience is just like any muscle in your body, it needs training and will grow in strength over time.

I'd argue BBB that for people starting out, as little as 2 or 3 mins at a similar time daily is enough. At the beginning the benefits will be negligible so habit creation is the key. It would be difficult for people with no experience of the benefits to find the motivation to practise for that long each day as the initial motivation would quickly dissipate. Habit needs to step in when initial motivation wanes. By starting with a really small number (and building up slowly as you say) then consistency and habit creation will be much easier to achieve.

It wouldnt be totally useless to meditate for such short periods as you get the confidence from achieving goals, and you get to figure out your best posture which becomes really important when you meditate for longer periods as discomfort during longer sessions can really screw up your focus.

2 or 3 minutes is way to short for me. I can't get my mind to stop moving in that short of a time period. i feel like every time i would even start to get somewhere it would be over. i like the idea of 10 minutes.

Yea headspace starts with 10 minutes and a lot of that is easing you into and out of it. I've got really poor concentration and I found this to be perfect. After 10 days they're 15 minutes long and a further 15 days on they're 20 minutes. I'm doing 20 minutes a day now and can mantain focus throughout.

I liked working my way through day 1, day 2 etc and slowly adding to the time. It makes you feel as though you're progressing rather than just doing the same thing every day. I guess it's the equivalent of adding weights when you go to the gym.
