Congrats on the jackpot score! Dont know why youre going to buy a van or anything significant right now. The jackpot win gives a really healthy boost to your roll and a great headstart on the goals you stated at the start of this thread

Why in the hell would you buy a van?

I admire your attitude. Do what makes you happy. I'm not advocating poor choices, but at some point it's important to do what makes you happy as well.

Good luck, I'm rooting for you.

You're right. I popped in this thread, and made a suggestion regarding a side gig I know nothing about, in an industry I know nothing about. I do not know any bud tenders making good money.

Gratz on the Jackpot.

How much does it cost to live out of your car? Are you getting a lot of comped meals?

I meant to post earlier in the thread but I was too busy and now that I just hit the jackpot I feel like it's my obligation to play poker all day every day so I can hit the jackpot again or super jackpot and be the luckiest SOB alive. Anyways about 2 or 3 weeks ago or whatever I paid my friend back 700 bucks that I owed him. It's important to pay back your debts as soon as possible. I didn't borrow any money from him he just let me stay with him for a month and I said that I would pay him back and it took me 12 months but I paid it back.

I'm thinking about visiting other nearby casinos. Get a feel for each one. That might be a fun change of pace.

Thanks. I still can't believe it.

I know all about living on a budget nowadays, but imo buying a van off of your jackpot money is a defeatist mentality.

Use that money to rent a bedroom somewhere. It will increase your life EV way more than sleeping in a van. It also shows that you are looking up, buying a van just shows that deep down you don't believe you are a winner. And can therefore not afford to rent a place and continue playing poker full time.

Get a bedroom in a shared house, shouldn't cost you more than 3/400 a month tops. Then take it from there.

Other than that I'm rooting for you hard buddy. I am down in the gutter with you so I know how it feels!

uhhh. This is LA dude.

I disagree it's defeatist. Seems pretty cost efficient. I personally could never live in a van, but if you're able to do that and be happy still, go for it, save yourself some $$$ through an investment instead of pouring your equity into rent. (obv I happily poor equity into rent but I can afford to, OP is living in the edge of being broke and should do everything in his power to try and achieve financial independence before anything else)

Grinding and exploring. Mostly grinding. What's there to do for a solo traveler around town that's not poker or clubbing?

yeah for 500/month I could share a room with some random stranger, not be able to bring back a girl to the place anyway so whats the effing point?? I think a van is a good investment because even after I get an apartment I want to be able to travel to different casinos across the US and have a place to sleep for free.

I like hiking, going to sporting events. The dodgers are really hot right now and I also like watching LA Galaxy games too. I sent you a PM with my phone number if you want to go for a hike sometime. Text me.

I just bought the book The Professor The Banker and The Suicide King and finished reading it a few days ago. So, yesterday I'm at the casino waiting for a seat in the 300-500 game and I see someone I recognize put his name on the board for the 500-1500 PLO. TF, Ted Forrest, the Suicide King himself. So smart guy that I am, I decide to sit in the game too so I can say that I played with Ted Forrest. I bought in short (cause I don't know how to play PLO) and just sat there and folded. Ted got moved pretty quickly since this was a must move table. Fwiw Ted was on a short buy himself which I thought was odd, but I guess he must be underrolled which makes sense given how much of a gambler he is.

I won 500 in the game and I think everyone else played fairly terrible. Way too much action being tossed around, i just played as tight and passive as humanly possible.
