Weird hand... My preflop choice got me into trouble on this one...

Villain is a reg, we play together often, he's a bit older but I've talked strat with him on occasion. I think he's solid, but will occasionally do fishy things like limping too much or bad bet-sizing. He knows I can vary my play widely, he just sat down a few hands ago and hasn't had a chance to see me playing very solid TAG on this table. (like actually tight!)

SB-weak station fish BB-tightfish EP fish limps, Villain limps, I limp in LP with A9o, sb calls, BB checks.

(I should have mucked or raised blech. I was actually mucking hands like that on that day, even in LP... Which is a new thing for me.)

Flop A45

Checks to V who bets 20, hero calls, SB calls

Turn A 4 5 T

Checks to V who bets 20 again, hero raises to 60, SB calls, V tank calls.

River A 4 5 T T

Checks to hero who thinks a bit and bets 120. V calls with AJ.

Summary: I don't think I put enough thought into the river bet. 120 is probably the worst sizing I could have chosen. My goal was to actually do some kind of weird merge thing where I can bluff AJ or get called by Ax. I needed to go 180 or 80 I think and pick a side. I'm either going to try to bluff off AQ-AJ that limped, or get value from a worse ace, not both at the same time. That weak sauce $20 turn bet made me think he had a 1 pair Ax trying to get to showdown so my turn raise was for value. I know he is wary of me being in position so he wants to pot control, but it really turns his hand face up. I think dropping the hammer on the river is the best play since his range is fairly capped and I shouldn't have any bluffs with my turn sizing.

Mini TR from AC.

Hand history of last hand played at borgata:

I'm from the streets...
I only played 1-2 for 2 short sessions at borgata since I was playing with some friends from the bachelor party... Just played normal solid tight game... except for the last hand I played.

This guy sat down at the table a bit after I got there. Hoodie, sunglasses, antisocial, the whole 9. He gets up after about 15 minutes and doesn't come back for half an hour. So, when he got up, I told my friend (after having a few drinks...) I want his (pointing to the empty grinder seat) chips. After he came back, he folded a bunch, played very few hands, standard 1-2 NitAG grinder stuff.

I inform the table 'this is my last hand'.

Hero straddles UTG for 5 with 10-3o. Eff stacks are 240. I'm stuck 60 at this point and want my money back. Its a sprint, not a marathon.

Villain in EP opens to 17, two callers, hero DEFENDS!

Flop is K 4h 5

Checks to villain who bets 30, folds to hero who calls.

Turn: K 4h 5 7h

Hero leads 50, villain calls.

River: K 4h 5 7h 2

Hero bets 125 Villain folds.

Hero mentally flips villain the bird.

Not that there are many people reading this but...

This is my farewell to this thread. Its been about 1 year since I went full time and i've learnt quite a bit from all the FPS/unbalanced stuff i've done. I can't really put in more than 20-25 hrs a week since ****s gotten real (or complex depending on who you ask) at school, so i'm going to shift my game back to a tighter style of play to get rid of the swinginess. With lower volume, i'm going to start to try regging 5-10 games with deeper stacks to increase my hourly.

Up next... adventures in 5-10. Balance, bluff catching, and standard TAG play!

Enjoyed following the thread - best of luck in your new adventures @ 5/T. I too have been playing much more of that lately than 2/5 and have been having some decent success.

Prolly gonna end up making a PCG thread here soon as well - you've inspired me :P

Might be down in the Coconut Creek area for the upcoming ME, and in the general-area for some of the cash as well, so maybe I'll see ya around if I end up making it happen.

Thread reopened!

I think i'm going to keep this around to write in since i'm still playing a good amount of hours with a mix of 2/5 and 5/10. Moving in to 5/10 has done wonders for my 2/5 game. Last night was the first time I ran a multistreet 100BB river bluff at 2/5 (set up by a turn bluff raise to 50BB). Its weird how I've bluffed $500 at 5/10 before and it didn't get my pulse pounding as hard. (I cover my neck with my shirt when I get into big pots) Though I don't think its ever been with 0 equity on the river.

It's kinda neat... since I've been playing more 5/10 my game has tightened up a lot. I no longer get a LAG image on the table for the most part. Its very cool to have fold equity again! I'm still very agro, but much more targeted.

This was me two months ago:

This is me now:

I was going to start a new PGC to document 5/10 and 5/5 PLO play, but i'd really rather not give too much info away at midstakes games. So...

I have an idea for how I want to continue this thread... i'm going to write hands from the perspective of the villain. I will put the results in a spoiler. It should be kinda fun for you guys reading it to try to play the hand against me at the final decision point.

If youre gonna do that you need to balance your hand history range with some hands where you have exactly what youre representing

Absolutely!

I'll post balanced hand histories and hope to get balanced feedback. I think it will be very interesting to see the difference in what my villains will do and what 2p2ers will do. I wonder what my 2p2 table image is...

Yesterdays hand... I've already given away the results, but lets try it in the new format. I am now the villain. When reading this, try to forget that i'm a 2p2er. It makes a difference.

Villain has been playing for about 3-4 hours. He has been seen pot controlling by checking turns with 1 pair type hands. He has also been seen checking monsters on the turn after betting flop (weirdo) and then will bet river 3/4 to pot. He c-bets most of the time when raises pre-flop. He has gotten it in vs. shortstacks with marginal hands like 2nd pair 200-300 and been correct 2/3 times. He folds more than any other player preflop and plays very few hands out of position. He is in for 900, he topped off every time he went under 500. He has never showndown a bluff and has not been seen raising too often. But lots of calling in position and then betting. 28 year old white male, looks like he knows what he's doing.

Hero has been running good and does not play very agro. Hero is an obviously experienced player, but rather oldschool. Hero is not afraid to put money in. He bets his hands related to their strength. 50 year old white male, looks like he knows what he's doing. Kind of fat.

Game is 2/5 500 cap. Eff stacks are 1500.

Two limps, Hero limps in MP, villain in CO raises to 40 (his raise size seems variable based on position and amount of players). SB, BB fold, 2 callers and hero calls. Villain puts his t-shirt up around his neck and mouth as he normally does after raising pre when hero is in the pot.

Flop AK3r (~160)

Checks around

Turn AK3c8c (~160)

Checks to hero who bets 100. Villain raises to 250, hero quickly calls.

River AK5c8c4 (~660)

Hero checks, Villain bets 500. Hero? Can hero call here with one pair? How about A4? What about K4?

Spoiler:
Hero counts out his chips, villain remains shuffling his chips staring at the board as usual and frustratingly mucks. Villain shows 99. (I had a reason for showing which I will get to next post)

I put a lot of info about myself in this post. I don't know if the guy I was up against picked up on all of that stuff. Later this evening when I get some more time i'll run through the hand from my point of view.

Woops. Forgot to put my point of view on that hand... oh well, not too hard to figure out.

Went to a friends wedding last weekend. Went to the isle with my girlfriend afterwards while still wearing fancy clothes. The floor announced my entrance over the speaker system. Think I play there much?

Going on a poker cruise to the bahamas with my girlfriends pub poker league!

Here is a hand from a session a couple days ago for your consideration. Results posted on monday! I'll be hero I suppose.

Hero and villain don't know anything about eachother. The only hand that hero has seen of villain is when he limp raised an LP open from UTG with 88 trying to squeeze a couple callers. The OR was short stacked and they got it in, the 88 held.

2/5 Eff stax 600ish

Hand: Hero is OTB, folds around, and he raises to 15. SB calls and V calls in the BB.

Flop: A 5d 2d

SB checks, V leads for 45, hero flats.

Turn (~130): A 5d 2d 10c

V bets 25, hero flats.

River (~180): A 5d 2d 10c 3d

V bets 25, hero raises to 300, V tank-folds.

What do you do if you are villain? (Try to forget that you would never take this line as villain lol) What do you call with? Assume no flush blockers.
