World definitely needs to trend more socialist. I don't see a way around it. Doesn't matter if you come at it from a basic human decency level or a purely pragmatic one. In the next 10 years alone we're going to see total automation of almost all vehicles/warehouses and the like. What are truck drivers qualified to do other than drive? Most people given the opportunity can learn new skills but most people aren't equipped to make transitions like that comfortably. Even if they did, there just aren't enough jobs for everyone.

If everyone was given a reasonable level of financial security imagine what they could do for their communities. If everyone woke up knowing that they didn't have to worry about paying their rent there'd be a lot more active humanitarians. Basic income/universal healthcare/free education isn't a pipe-dream. The power to make it happen just lies in the hands of the elite. Unfortunately it seems like people are going to have to see the system totally implode before they demand significant change.

When I found out my girlfriend was pregnant when I was 23, I was a college dropout, smoking weed everyday, living with my parents, and had no job. As much as I hated the idea of raising a child or even having one, once my girlfriend made it clear abortion wasn't an option, I got my **** together.

Took a ****ty morning stock job at Lowes working from 3-8 AM and then got another ****ty job at Nordstrom folding clothes from 1-9 PM. From there I was able to parlay that **** over 5 years into a claims adjusting job making $60k a year with no degree. If you really want it, and want to be a good role model for your son you will do it.

By all means though if you can't do it, let the girl know, and absolutely never try to get back into the kids life.
