Hey 2p2

I have attempted to do a couple of PG&C threads before - most have only got a couple of posts deep.

I am attributing this to two reasons - first, my goals and the thread itself haven't been nearly as detailed and interesting as they need to be.

Second, I've never really found my Poker calling. I've tried to do a Cash 5NLz challenge, but I don't have the right attitude for cash, and I've tried to do a Micro SnG challenge.

I get my poker buzz from running deep in tournaments, but I don't have the time to grind out days of MTT's.

So, the Poker element of this challenge will be based around MTTSnG's.

A little bit about my Poker history.

I started playing poker at School in a £2 game with my friends, as with most people who stuck with Poker I was the 'winningest' player. I played a bit online but I was a total fish for a long time.

I started playing properly about 2 years ago, but I never really spent any time studying my game and improving. I would deposit £100, run it up to about £150 with some strict BRM, then blow it all playing a Sunday evening of MTTs

Most of my success has been in MTT SnG's. I have played a decent amount of $2.50 180's and have an OK ROI there. I've also got a couple of live scores at my local Casino for a few grand.

A little about me
I'm 25 and work in the Cycle industry.

I don't come from a rich family, but I have a small family with no siblings and very few cousins. My parents are much older than the avg, which has meant that my family has inherited a couple of houses and some money over the past 15 years which has meant I am living rent free in my childhood house (my parents moved to one of our inherited houses).

My reasons for starting this thread is that I just got married to a beautiful wife and I want to give my life some purpose now. This won't be all about poker, but will obviously have a heavy Poker focus.

I also have a 1yr old son which limits my playing time at home, but this will be a slow burner.

The goals

The ultimate goal is to be able to withdraw at least £300 per month to put towards a car lease. I have always wanted a nice car, but have never had the 'spare cash' - so that's my driving force.

How am I going to get there
As stated above, I plan to MTT SnG's. I will start with everything up to and including the $3.50 45-man.

I will set myself 5 monthly goals, and then 4-5 weekly goals. They will be a mixture of Poker and life related.

IMPORTANT - THERE WILL BE GRAPHS ITT

I have thought about doing some kind of freeroll, but not sure how to do it yet. Would like to do something like $1 for every goal I miss each week/month paid out to someone at the end of the year. Will have a think.

I will try and update regularly, with HH etc

GL me.

Okay, so - goals for this month:

[ ] 200 MTT SnG's with ROI of 10%
[ ] 10 hours of studying
[ ] 10 hours in the Gym
[ ] Spend a day listing all my old **** I never use on eBay
[ ] No Alcohol

Numbers are low this month because, A) it's already the 8th, and B) I will be at a Trade Show in Germany for 8-9 days at the end of the month/beginning of September. I also don't want to set a bunch of unrealistic targets for the first month, not meet any and get off on an ego-crushing start.

Goals for the week:

[ ] 75 MTT SnG's with ROI of 10%
[ ] 100 SnapShove Questions (5-20BB) per day
[ ] 2 hours in the Gym
[ ] Spend some time looking at our household bills and where we can save money
[ ] Get out and ride my MTB once.
[ ] Update this thread every day I play poker with a graph and 2-3 hands with detailed analysis.

First day in the books - we book a loss, but the expected $ won was +

Here's our first graph of the thread...

I played around with multitabling last night trying to work out the optimum amount of tables I can play and still be +EV. Thing is with the $2.50 180's is they are pretty straight forward for the first few levels, and obviously these are where my big ROI hits will come from.

I think I can comfortably play 6 at a time and I think we are still +EV having 9 open. I'm pretty happy with my display set-up, but the only issue is taking notes on players. I feel like I don't have time to take down detailed notes, so thinking about doing something with labelling and notes in a notepad...

Anyway, had a few interesting hands, first if the bustout hand from the 180 I FT'ed:

I'm not really sure if we should be folding here due to ICM. Also not sure if we should just open jam, rather than raise call as we fold out some of his weaker Ax that we are flipping with.

I ran it through ICMizer and as I expected it's a clear fold. One of my reasons for calling here (and feel free to tell me if this is a stupid thought) was that vI had done an OPR and SS search on the table and Villain here had by a long shot most cashes and should theoretically be best player at the table.

My thoughts were if I could find a double through him I would be in a much better position to take the win?

Next hand is from another 180 in the first level

Should I be going for value on the river here? I think this is a spot where I am probably not getting the maximum due to multi-tabling. It's hard to have villain on AK/AQ, and they don't have many 8's - so I feel like if I had been putting a bit more thought into this I could have known that I should value bet here?

Final hand is a bit of a weird one:

Really don't have a clue what goes on here. Feel like I'm making a super nitty fold but it's so early on in the tournament and I have no info on villain that I just think that people donking pot from the BB at these stakes don't generally do so with absolute air. We do have a pretty premium hand here though, but the turn is about the worst card in the deck so I think we have to fold to his continued aggression here.

Turn out villain was a complete nutter. Raised 10x PF next hand, then 3b shoved with A2o a few hands later 100BB deep.

Anyway - fairly solid start, I feel like I can beat these games pretty comfortably. Adjust ROI is over 50% so confident we can make 10% over a decent sample.

Also sorted out my TV/Internet/Phone yesterday, and switched my energy supplier to cheaper options. So another check off the list. Need to hit the gym, but managed to get in 200 Snapshove Q's.

Also have decided on a Freeroll to get this thread going a bit. Will add $1 to a pot for every weekly goal I miss, and $2 for every monthly.

As usual, comment to be in. Will take everyone ITT and then after 12 months will decide how to give it away (if there is any )

Thanks, luckily my wife is pretty chill. My kid is also sleeping really well, so should be able to grind from 7.30 onwards on nights where we're not doing things together.

South West - although used to spend a lot of time in South Wales when I used to ride a lot more.

Ok so end of week 1.

Didn't go exactly as planned, missed most of my goals. Was pretty ill last few days with headaches for pretty much 24hrs a day since Thursday. Haven't been sleeping/eating much but still managed to put in a little grind y/day.

Continue to run like **** deep in $2.50's. We should have binked at least two of these now but lost key 75/25's on table full of absolute fish that we should have crushed. As a result, Expected $ is right up there but profit is still low (but now positive)

Funnily enough I am running better than expected as a whole in $2.50 180s rather than 18's and 45's.

        Hand analysis time:

I'm going to change up how I look at hands ITT. There's not enough people in here to give feedback on lines etc so I think picking one hand I don't remember and going through it bit by bit analysing my play will be more constructive.

PF I think this is probably 50/50, and maybe should be a fold. Only have 4 hands on villains at this point, but I think maybe it's OK?

We flop TP, and cbet about 65%. The BB calls - should we size bigger here? Cbetting is definitely one of the weakest parts of my game and I often find myself just clicking buttons without any real reasoning. Obviously here we want to cbet to protect our hand, but not sure if we should go bigger. Most of villains calling hands will be SD, FD and A4/A3. He x/r 33/44/TT and AT most likely, so we are probably getting called if we bet ~80% pot from the hands that he is calling our 65% bet with?

Turn is the 8h and villain checks again. I think he probably does this with all of his hands above, I can't really see the 8 improving him unless he x/c our cbet with 88 which I guess is a possibility? I bet 2/3 pot again which I think is maybe too much? I don't think villain is calling our turn cbet now with much that we beat. Our sizing probably forces him off his FD/SD (maybe A5/A2d calls), but everything else probably folds so maybe we should go smaller?

He x/r all in and to be honest I think we have to call getting 5:1. I think the only hands that beat us here are 88/44/33/TT (we block) and maybe hands like T8, 43. I think he shows up with a FD/SD or random stab more than 20% of the time here.

We call and... he shows 88. River pairs the board and GG.

I don't think there's much else we could have done, but I did neglect to give him 55-99 when ranging him OTF which is a big error. He obviously calls my Cbet with most of those hands, and if I size bigger with my flop Cbet I probably fold out those (maybe we don't want to do that in the long run?)

I also need to find a way to think about situations more. I saw in another PG&C thread by one of Pads stable members Zoltan that he nods his head twice on every decision. I think this is a pretty good way of looking at it (obviously not PF on trivial folds etc)

          Goals For Week One:

          ty!

So today went pretty aids again - couldn't put a deep run together. Ran KK into AA BTN vs SB for like 25BB with around 30-35 left in a 2.50 TWICE.

Also just generally had lots of suckouts and 75/25 situations where they spike their 3 outer.

Chip EV and BB EV are 4-5x higher than Actual, so at least I know I'm going semi in the right direction.

Sickest one was about 18BB deep. AT in CO, folds to use we 3x, flop A85ss, BB check we shove, BB calls with QJhh (??????). Turn T, river K... Nice.

Managed to save the day by binking a $3.5 45-man. Was the only $3.5 I picked today, regged when there was about 43 players with no regs and took it down to record a $7 profit on the day lol.

I am playing well in the $2.5s, just need a couple of cards to fall my way.

I do think that I'm putting my stack at risk and calling off too often.

I will quite often just call a 18BB shove when I have 40-50BB with AT-AQ without really thinking about it and hope I'm flipping. I need to think more in those situations as I'm coming up against a lot of better hands. Maybe it's just variance but def need to have a look at that in PT.

Will do another session tomorrow then do a post on Weds most likely.

Finally running a little better and making some progress - probably the most motivated I've ever been playing poker right now, that motivation is passing over into other things in my life too.

My 1 y/o had his birthday jabs yesterday so was pretty poorly last night so didn't get a session in, but managed to get some games in here and there and made some good runs.

Running much better for the most part, still losing a couple of 75/25s where it matters, but also winning lots of flips so we're probably breakeven on the luck front.

Managed to get a second in a $2.5 which has obv helped my blue line! Was a weird final table. Had a massive chip lead, then lost a classic AK vs AQ which put us back about avg 6 handed. 4 of the 6 were maniacs who were just playing ICM suicide throughout the entire FT. Managed to make our way to three handed as a dog, had about $25k vs $80k and $60k and had a couple of marginal spots that probably should have been a fold but I decided that it was probably +EV to let these guys knock each other out which they did. Then we got in K7s and he woke up with KQ - gg.

Been making the money in the 18 mans a lot which has been positive.
Also did some work on calling all-ins 20BB or deeper. Have also changed my note-tracker to keep track of that. Found that I was calling all ins with AQ-AT way too much where I'm dominated often, and not enough with smaller PP where I'm ahead/flipping.

Ok so as again I obviously know I won the hand here as I selected it from my PT but can't remember the action. I had it marked as review so hopefully it's interesting enough...

PF we raise 2.4x from MP with A4o. We are 50BB deep so I guess this is fine although I probably get in a lot of trouble in these spots and it's probably where I am bleeding a lot of chips calling with weaker Ax. I think it's a better open from the HJ or CO.
The BTN calls along with the BB and flop comes 2sQhAs

BB checks as I would expect him to do with his entire range, and I bet 62% pot. I think this sizing is OK as I'm giving the BTN and BB an expensive enough price to call with their KJ/KT/Qx and FD.
BTN calls and BB folds. At this point I am giving the BTN all K high flush draws, KTs, KQs, KJ, KQo, and some stronger Ax than myself. I think Any AK/AQ/AJ 3b preflop, as this guy has played 4/8 hands, so A5-A9 are beating us.

the turn is the 8s completing the FD and I decide to check. I think this is fine, as if we cbet again here and get raised then obviously we are folding and it makes sense for him to bluff raise here with his KJ, KT with one spade.
He bets 180 into 600, which is a pretty weird sizing. I don't really expect him to do this with his flushes, as he'll probably want to get some more value out of our Ax hands. I am getting pretty good odds to call so do so.

The river pairs the board with a 2 and I check expecting him to value bet with his flush draws and check down the rest. The 2 is a great card as we're now only losing to AK of his Ax.
After watching this back my first instinct is that he's bluffing, but I tend to call down way too lightly in these spots because I think everyone is trying to bluff at these stakes whereas it's genrally usually the opposite.
Thinking of his hands, he does do this with his missed broadway straight draws and those including a spade especially. He rarely has a two, but I guess he does shove some of his weaker Ax with the hope in forcing us off a chop.

So, hands that beat us: KQss, KJss, KTss, AQ, AK. I don't think I should be giving him any PP here as he shoves 88 on the turn with the flush draw, and probably folds flop - raise PF with AA and KK and folds the only combo of 22 PF.
Hands we beat: KJ, KQ, KT, QJ.
We are getting 2:1 on a call, so I think calling is fine here as someone with 4/8 is much more likely to be making this kind of weird play with a bluff than a value hand.

After seeing final result, I'm happy with that analasys, and obviously made the same decisions in real time...

So, finally graph for so far.

I wouldn't worry about game selecting and "regs" at the 3 dollar level in 45 mans or any format for that matter in the micros. You need to be loading and playing as many sng's simultaneously as you can while still being able to play effectively, GL

Pretty succesful week - terrible weekend! Lol

Happy with how I am playing - I am definitely taking more time with important decisions and not just clicking buttons. Definitely improved my game by actually running equities in my head before calling PF shoves.

Managed to get to the gym for a decent session once - would have liked to have gone twice but beginning to realise I just don't have as much spare time as I'd like...

Been doing Snapshove Q's every day and happy with where I am on them - at about a 85% correct answer rate right now which is great. It's definitely helping my game too, just bad part is I'm running bad when it comes to getting it in.

I'll shove say A7 with 12BB from the BTN, and the BB will wake up with AJ-AK or Aces or Kings. The amount of times I've had a top 10% hand in the CO/BTN/SB and shoved, and have the SB/BB wake up with a monster is just unreal. So all things considered happy with a profitable week...

Could do with binking a 2.5 or at least getting a deep run. Just keep bricking them at the mo.

            Updated Graph:

Didn't managed to get out on my bike for a second week running, lacking motiviation there. Also didnt managed to get to the driving range which is annoying too.

No alcohol and Monthly goals are going well. Working my way through Apotheosis' videos on RIO and definitely helping.

Going to try and work on my cbetting again this week as I am definitely losing value and bleeding chips there.

I wish everytime I said "Could do with binking a 2.5" I went on to bink one.

Took one down after a pretty interesting HU and 3 handed battle for about 30 mins which is pretty long for 2.5's - I noticed they added a blind level at 1250/2500 which is great.

some hands coming tomorrow as there were some sick spots...

            Okie Dokie.

So as posted yesterday I managed to win a 2.5 which is the first since I started this PG&C and hopefully now the first of many.

I did run pretty good at the F2T and FT with regards to card distribution. I actually lost a good portion of all-ins where I was a fave, but just ran pretty well other than that.

I did some work in PT4 before I started the session and realised that I was actually being really nitty in the 20BB+ parts of these tournaments.

I think I had been so focussed on learning my correct push/fold ranges that I was ignoring the ability to accumulate chips early on and just waiting for the right shove spots.

So I went into the session with the focus of opening up my ranges a bit more from middle/late position and just playing pots. I had a lot of success, as it was pretty easy to just steal blinds and raise & c-bet most flops and take the chips.

I was going into the last 30% of the tournament with healthy stacks (30bb+) rather than a 15bb stack that I'm looking to shove.

Good example of this... (and my rungood)

Folded to us in the CO with 33, and we limp in. I'm not sure if I should be just folding here, the SB is a table big stack, and the BB has a big stack too, the rest of the table is short and I assume we are F2T, or F3T here.

I don't think raising is any good as if we get jammed on we are obviously folding, but then I don't think that the SB/BB jam very wide because of the ICM.

Anyway, we limp, BTN calls, SB completes and BB checks and we are 4-handed to a flop of A28sss.

It's checked to us and we check. Here again is an example of my lack of c-betting knowledge. I have always thought that we should cbet our hands that have really good equity (I.e flush draws, big Aces, sets) and our hands that have little/no equity so here I guess maybe QJo or something. But what the hell should we do? Should I cbet just under half pot here to 'protect our hand'? The BTN/SB/BB are coming along for just under half pot with any of their bigger spades and probably any Ax, 8x and maybe even 2x?

We check and it's checked through and the turn is Jh.

It's checked to us again, and I bet 640 into 2k. Why I chose this sizing I have no idea - I guess that I saw this as a value bet, which actually when it is checked to us I guess it actually is. But should we just check and try and get to showdown for free?

                Long post incoming...:

So August is done. Was a good month, got married and got my head screwed on.

Feeling much better about life now. Starting to get into a routine of actually have a goal and finishing it and sticking to it. (although I didn't finish all the goals from last month).

                [X] No Alcohol

Missed two goals. Never really got round to listing everything I wanted to get on eBay. Think that will have to be a job for this month. I have some specialist memorabilia - I don't think eBay is the right place to get maximum $$ for it, so will have to see.

No Alcohol was probably the easiest of these - never really had a chance to go out and get drunk.

Gym is something I want to address this month for sure.

The last week I spent over at the Cycling industries biggest Trade show - Eurobike is Friedrichshafen. It's a beautiful location, and actually the show was really good for us this year. We had some new product and business was really good. The brand I work for has had a tough few years so nice to be coming out of that.

As with being in Germany though, food was pretty much just meat and chips. Did have some good Thai at the start of the week, which was just deep fried vegetables.

Celebrated the end of the alcohol ban with a nice large weissbeer. Was my only beer for the show - which kept me sane through the show.

                Spoiler:

Flew Business for the first time. Obviously wasn't that special as it was just short-haul - but was nice to eat off a proper plate with real cutlery.

                Deep fried Thai vegetables...

                First beer after a month

This is 80% of the show. Random Asian created **** that has no use anywhere...

"jumbo-Schnitzel" from a really cool little social club kinda place. This is about as big as your head. And pretty tasty...

Poker wise, month was good. Finished up on 226 games with a 34.09% ROI which I'm obviously over the moon with. Ran OK but definitely did not reach my EV on the 2.5 FT's which would have given me a significantly better ROI.

I would love to do a long term goal of 10k games with 10% ROI on 2.5 ABI - but I don't think I have the time to put in the volume to get to 10k. We'll see.

                Going to resurrect this thread.

Been going through a bit of a weird time in life recently - esp with Poker.

Since my last post ITT been on a bit of a rollercoaster. Can't remember if I mentioned but Mrs IHTP is pregnant with our second - no issues there, found out we're having another boy which I'm stoked with.

Been on a bit of a financial squeeze last few months. We've really had to tighten our belts which has meant withdrawing my total PS bankroll and whatever I could find on other sites to do some home improvements. Also my car ****ed up so we took out a loan to buy a new one. Actually managed to fix my car so got that money sat in the bank right now.

Poker wise - I had a couple really bad weeks playing MTT SNG so I decided to stop the challenge and this thread. It's kinda typical of me really, I get super enthusiastic about something and then when it doesn't go 100% to plan I just sack it off. Definitely a personality trait I want to rid myself of. Not too sure how to go about it though...

I did however play live for the first time in about 6 months in a 2 day event at a local Casino and managed to come 2/140 for £4.2k from a £100 BI. Definitely got me stoked on Poker again but all the money went on the house and other things so unfortunately nothing to get me going.

I did however deposit $20 into Stars and so it begins again.

I want to re-start this thread for a few reasons.
1/ I think it's really good to have a place to come and vent, and just type. Even though most likely no-one will read it, it still feels nice to lay it all out.
2/ I want to give myself something to keep myself fuelled. I am not going to do a challenge, or give myself weekly/monthly goals - not to begin with anyway. I'm not the type of person who can stick to them, even with the monetary incentive I gave myself the first time.

I do feel like a bit of a scammer because of the FR I promised, so once my BR is back above $150 I will do a draw for the few people ITT and give away the $39 that was promised.

I've been reading a lot of other PG&Cs on here and I feel like my Poker is in the best place it's ever been, without even putting in any volume.

I've played like 20 games in the past month. Probs my lowest volume since I started playing online - playing .50c SnG and 18/45 man just trying to keep my evbb/100 as high as possible and loving it. Totally forgetting about the money side of things and just playing to make chips. Feels kinda weird but super good at the same time.
