Well I've been gone for a while from my own thread. I came back from Malta and the next day I woke up with the worst flu. It's only now that I feel somewhat better.
Malta as my first EPT experience was awesome. The venue was good, the food and smoothies/shakes they offered also very tasty and healthy but a bit expensive. Day 1b started off with a decent table draw. I had Dimitar Danchev a couple of seats to my right and to my immediate right the IPT Malta Main runner up. The rest were unknown and 2 of them proved out to not know much about the game, to say the least. I got up to 60k by the 4th level and finished the day on 56k. On day 2 I had a nasty table draw with Mercier, Geilich, JC Alvarado, Sebastian Pauli and Kempe. Luckily most of them were pretty short and the table broke after 30 mins. At my new table I steam rolled myself up to 170k in the first 3 levels.
A very funny hand was vs this russian guy. I started with 100k and he had around 70k. I have JJ in the HJ and he opens utg with a min raise @ 100/600/1200. He has been splashing around so I 3bet to 7k. He snap calls. Flop comes K 10 4 rainbow. Check and I cbet 8k and he calls quickly again. We both check the 8 turn and the river is an A. What follows is hilarious. I take some chips in my hand and he open folds saying "fold" and turning over K9. I was stunned as the dealer pushed the pot to me and showed him my hand. He said something in russian, stood up and left for a whole 40 minutes.
Then the chipleader and Faraz Jaka got moved to my table. I made a huge mistake against the chipleader.
He starts out with 350k and I have 160k at 200/1k/2k. I have 34ss in the bb and he opens from the button to 4,4k. He was being very aggressive and being deep I decided to defend. Flop comes 10 Q 2ss I check raise his 4,8k cbet to 13k thinking to take the pot here. He 3bets to 28k. This is where I think I should've folded or 4bet but I called.. Turn came the Ad. He bets out 30k and I call again. River bricks and I obv have to fold to his bet and lose the 65k. This hand demoralized me because I knew it was a stupid play I didn't put any thought into. Then I lost 40k more in a preflop all in AK<99 at 1,5k/3k. I ended the day on 62k and had to crawl into the money on day 3.
As a tourist destination I don't think I would choose Malta now that I got to see it briefly. Don't get me wrong, it has a very interesting history and some great places to visit. However, I found it quite disorganized and it seemed to me that the historic buildings and landmarks, specifically around St. Julians and Paceville, weren't conserved at all. They are building modern houses and office buildings all around, squeezing them between the old buildings. The streets are dirty and it just doesn't feel like you want to be there. It reminds me very much of the Romanian seaside. On the other hand, there are some beautiful cities where history is conserved like Rabat and Mdina. Especially Mdina, as it's kind of sealed off from the rest of Malta with a huge gate. They only allow residents to enter the city by car and there is a speed restriction of 30km/h or less in the whole city. Some pictures will tell more then words:
Played a few sessions online this week and got 4th in a 27psko and won the early 5+r 5kgtd. I am also trying to qualify for EPT Prague now and made Phase 2 of that 27€ qualfier. It's going to be a good one with around 4 packages and 120 players left.
This is a very long update, I just realize. I will do it more consistently from now on, I just couldn't be asked these last days.
Gl everyone and good night!
