View from Polo Towers

I just took a shot in the biggest game of my life. I was lurking bravo and spotted a 2/5 table running at South Point which is kind of uncommon so I figured I would go check it out. I sit with 1k and am informed it's a mandatory straddle game, not quite rolled for 5/10 but I figure I can fire 1 bullet at it. Game is pretty crazy and loose. I just nit it up and after a couple hrs 2 of the guys that are stuck want to bump up the stakes to 5/10/20 and make the max BI 2.5k everyone at the table agrees. The manager says that we can't at first but then calls his boss and we are given the green light. I nit it up for another 3 hrs and booked my best session in a while.

It's been a couple weeks since I updated, going forward I will try my best to update on the first day of each mini challenge I begin to review my last one and adjust my goals as necessary. I logged 28/50 of my target hrs. I'm nearing the completion of another mini challenge so I'll throw up another update in a couple days. I have not been as consistant with putting in volume as I would like. After taking road trips I have found it difficult to hop but into my LV rountine but I will work on it.

I had a few friends visit from the Bay for a week, they rented a sick spot at Polo Towers adjacent to Aria. Had fun chilling, grinding and blazing.

I hit up a metal show at House of Blues inside Mandalay Bay, this girl I've been hanging out with scored us free tickets. Down is talented band with ex-members of Pantera and Corrosion of Conformity. They have some killer riffage and harmonies.

Both of my roommates moved back to CA, I have a new roommate who doesn't play poker. It will be weird not living with other grinders for the next 5 months until our lease is up.

I can't believe how fast 2014 went by but it's been a great year in my life and I've made measurable progress. Time to start thinking about what I want to accomplish in 2015.

I read a good book called "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, it's an old school self development book written in the 1930s. Despite the gimmicky title it has some very powerful messages and a lot of motivational anecdotes. The main thing I have taken from it is that we must be decisive, take action and to never quit. With imagination and focus there is no goal too lofty and no obstacle to great to overcome. I would recommend reading it even if you are like myself and are not too concerned about wealth. The main theme is the psychology of success.

I took the first step towards forming an non profit organization of poker players. The plan is to meet periodically and do some volunteer work to make the world a better place. If you happen to be in Vegas and are interested in helping out you can check out the thread I started in Las Vegas Lifestyle for details.

Merry Christmas

I've been thinking about poker goals and life goals for 2015. There are so many things I want to accomplish, I will have to work a lot harder than I've worked this year.

If you have followed along you know I have done very poorly with completing my mini challenges. I need to be more consistent. It is all about excuting and making it happen.

My next post will be my review of 2014 which was an excellent fun year and an outline of my many goals for 2015.

The legendary Duke was out in Vegas, cool chillin with you man! I am heading down to AZ this week to say what's up again at Talking Stick and visiting the awesome girl I was hanging out with a couple months ago. Should be back in town for New Year's Eve, zero poker 100% party this time!

This thread has evolved over time, there will be some more changes in the new year.

I guess I have fallen out of the habit of posting hands in this thread for a few reasons. I have developed a lot more self trust, not many spots seem very remarkable anymore. I am also in a chat group with some other PG&Cers who are all good players, we go over HHs in real time. It's nice to get instantaneous feedback from guys I respect. I will try to drop an esspecially sick HH in here every once in a while.

I decided to stop posting short term results because I believe they are mostly irrelevant. I am just focusing on the process and the long term. I know that if I put in the volume and play my best I will have plenty of money sooner or later exactly when or how much doesn't matter. If I don't care about it, surely no one else should.

Thanks man, slightly stressful but I know the game conditions were very good and it was worth the risk.

Not really any particularly cool HHs, I just played TAG and bet for value.

The amount I won isn't even brag worthy it just happened to be my best session since a month and a half ago. I think if I have 5 fig session I'll post the first stack pic ITT as BBV. The game at South Point was probably more rare than a unicorn, but if I'm ever in super sick game somewhere I'll shoot you a text.

Happy New Year!

2014 Graph $24/hr over 1593 hrs

Here's the breakdown by stakes

1/2 Graph $20/hr over 350.5 hrs

1/3 Graph $28/hr over 762 hrs

2/5 Graph $16/hr over 474 hrs

5/10 Graph $300/hr over 5 hrs

I think the biggest shift for me in 2014 was making the decision to be a positive person and being grateful for everything. I am truly blessed and thankful that poker has allowed me to live life with a high level of freedom and self determination.

2014 was an excellent year. I started out with 1k to my name and now have a 5 fig bankroll.

I need to give a huge thanks to everyone who has been following and participated in this thread, I couldn't have done it without you. I wish you all the best this year!

I made some new poker friends, met a few girls and traveled to a bunch of places I had never been before.

I didn't drink a sip of alcohol for the whole year, first time since I was 14 and I feel a lot healthier.

The majority of my volume should be at 2/5 this year and I will make it a habit of scoping out the 5/10 tables whenever I play to see if I can find good games for a calculated shot.

2015 GOALS

[ ] 1800 hrs of quality volume (average 150 hrs a month)
[ ] Run a marathon, get in the best shape of my life
[ ] Eat as much healthy food as possible
[ ] Paint 365 paintings
[ ] Take care of at least one thing on my to do list every day
[ ] Write 25 songs and learn 25 covers on guitar
[ ] Take a trip to Europe
[ ] Organize 50 opportunities for poker players to volunteer in LV
[ ] Go out clubing 50 times, improve my social skills and become the best man I can be

These will be tough targets but I am confident I can knock them out. I will be starting a 10 day mini challenge in a couple days so I can chop up each goal into bite sized pieces.

Let's go!!!

One of the purest threads in PG&C. I wasn't even thinking about your name when I thought of that, what I mean is I find your thread to be the most humble, relatable, believable* threads on 2p2.

Not trying to start a PG&C fanboy war, but what I mean is PA clearly doesn't not glamorize his wins/skills or depress his runbad/faults. Just tells it like it is.

PA,

Thanks for your contributions to the forums, and the poker community in general. It is admirable and encouraging to see an individual in the poker realm making such great strides to be a quality human on and off the felt. I think that you are truly transcending the "poker journey" and making a high quality life for yourself, really cool. Here's to wishing you much continued success in poker and life in 2015. Maybe I will make it out Las Vegas way this year and have the opportunity to meet you in person, once I start my "poker journey."

only one I really wonder about is the 365 paintings in a year?

I mean, sure, if you a small picture you are trying to knock out, but wouldn't there be some pictures worth spending more time on?

I might amend that to "do some painting each day"

but........ it's your thread

"Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment" - Jim Rohn

Crowds Flooding the Street for NYE Festivities

2014 was my most productive year ever and I believe I will top it this year.

I will be breaking my year down into 36 10 day mini challenges. I have adjusted my goals slightly so that they are all divisible by 36 so I'll know exactly what pace I need to be on to reach each one.

I first read "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie a couple years ago, decided re-read it. It's a great book with many simple and practical tips. One thing I have always been terrible at is remembering faces and names, I will try be improve in this respect.

I also started reading "No Excuses, The Power of Self Discipline" by Brian Tracy. I can attribute my many times fallening short of my mini challenges last year to a lack of self discipline. I have a new resolve and will hold myself accountable.

Another book I picked up is "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey looking forward to starting it.

I will be including a vlog in my post after the completion of each mini challenge. I have about 7 topics written down and I am open to suggestions if there is any topic you guys would like to hear my perspective on.

Here is my ammended list of goals

2015 GOALS

[ ] 1800 hrs of quality volume (average 150 hrs a month)
[ ] Run a marathon, get in the best shape of my life
[ ] Eat as much healthy food as possible
[ ] Paint 360 paintings
[ ] Take care of at least one thing on my to do list every day
[ ] Write 18 songs and learn 18 covers on guitar
[ ] Take a trip to Europe
[ ] Organize 36 opportunities for poker players to volunteer in LV
[ ] Go out clubing 36 times, improve my social skills and become the best man I can be
