Great thread. Been following a long time. Thank you.

Thought I'd comment on this. I don't know if he's a good friend or how good. My view is don't let poker get in the way of your other friendships. I get the don't tap the tank thing, preserve the game. But if this guy is a real friend, I would count that as more important than preserving the game (the micro/nano effect telling one guy can have). imho.

doesn't have to be elaborate. You could start this already by renting a nice place (say 4 bedrooms) and renting out each bedroom. Time it right, and you could even have all the WSOP grinders coming into town and paying a huge amount for the first 2 months of the lease.

The huge upfront from the first two months would probably pay for 6 months of you being there.

Short term leases at nice places can be very worthwhile. Both to the people getting the place, and those that have them.

One year ago today I hiked to the top of Camelback Peak, I did a lot of thinking on that hike. I had less than 20 bucks to my name by the time I got back to Vegas. I had a new perspective on life and I was determined to hustle my hardest to make **** happen. One year later my bankroll is at an all time high and I am in a fairly comfortable spot. I really feel I have some direction in life, I can see where I fit into the world. I am not perfect by any means but I feel good if make a little progress everyday towards becoming a better person.

I am planning to hit the road tomorrow and go on a little adventure.

I knocked out 41/75 hrs of my target volume, I fell short but when I did play it was quality play with no big blunders. I ended up taking 3 days off which is the first time I have taken more than a single day off since summit. Going through the breakup made me feel some emotions I haven't felt in a long time and I didn't feel like my head would be clear enough to play solid poker. It was a great feeling knowing I was a really awesome boyfriend and the relationship ended on a high note, I am grateful for the memories that were made. I ended up logging 160 hrs in October which I think is about the right number of hrs for me. I will be allocating more time and energy to goals outside of poker.

I am going to shoot for 40 hrs this mini challenge.

A few random life goals I will be working on:

- Train and get in shape to run a marathon.

I've been running a mile or two every other morning for most of the year. I am going to gradually increase the distance.

- Start a band here in Vegas.

I haven't played in a band since I left Oakland and I really miss band practice and playing gigs so I'll be saving up for a new amp and seeking out some like minded musicians.

- Exhibit my art at a festival.

I've been pretty busy with creating new paintings since my last show and also building a couple websites.

- Travel to Europe.

I'd like to work hard over the next year and save up enough money to go by next fall.

- Go on as many dates as possible.

I'm a lot more confident around women and my self esteem is a lot higher than a few years ago when I was an alcoholic and dealing with depression and anxiety. I feel like I have a lot to offer and girls are lucky to meet me and experience my reality. I still am not sure exactly what I am looking for in women so I figure I have approximately 4 years to mess around before I really want to settle down a start a family.

- Start a nonprofit organization of poker players.

There are a lot of scummy people in the poker world. I want to demonstrate that we can do something for others and make to world a better place. It doesn't have to be extravagant, I just want to start by making some sandwiches and hand them out to the homeless.

He is kid I used to blaze with during breaks back when I was grinding at Oaks. He also played in the Berkeley home games. I told him about 2+2 as a critical resource for improving but I don't think he ever got into it. He aspires to be a pro but honestly I'm not sure if he has what it takes. He has dusted off most of his cash at 5/10 and is back playing 1/2 and crashing on our couch. I am more than happy to offer advice if he wants it.

I took an 8 day roadtrip to the Windy City. It was a fun trip, it was nice to escape the desert for a bit. I have a bunch of pics I'll sprinkle in over the next few posts.

I logged 31/40 of my target hrs. I am going to shoot for 60 hrs this mini challenge. I am planning to go back to the CA for Thanksgiving so just need to grind out the volume until then.

Shout out to my buddy who had a super deep run in the Lake Tahoe WSOP circuit main for mid 5 fig score, congrats dude!

Glad to see your making some really nice goals for yourself off the felt Carl. I'm positive this will help you continue to see success in your life as you are finding yourself. Also nice job on volume, 1400 and counting is pretty respectable, I suspect you'll log in 1600 hours before 2014 is wrapped up

I logged 45/60 of my target hrs. It took my a little while to get back into my routine and I didn't quite get in as much volume as I could have. I am going to shoot for 60 hrs again this mini challenge.

Here is my latest vlog where I show you a cool trick you can do-

Awesome, I would appreciate any help anyone would like to offer while in Vegas. I'll post a thread in LVL soon with my plan. Thanks, you too!

I'll give a quick rundown and impressions of the poker rooms I played in.

Black Hawk: Ameristar is a very nice room on par with Vegas poker rooms. Got a free buffet comp for 4 hrs of play. Lots of 1/2/100, 2/5/100 SLH and 30/60 LHE

Golden Gates and The Lodge are smaller rooms only 5 min walk from Ameristar with a couple tables of 1/2/100 SLH

I don't mind adapting to the odd betting caps for a couple days knowing I can whatever I want when I get back to Vegas.

Chicago: Horseshoe Hammond is a big room, they had 3 tables of 2/5 NL and a 5/5 PLO in the morning hrs. The location is a little ominous with the boat docked amongst heavy industry and smokestacks.

Harrahs Joliet is a smaller room with a couple 1/2 NL and couple 2/5 PLO at night. No backpacks or phones at the table is kind pf a buzz kill.

St. Louis: Lumiere is a nice small room and had a couple 1/3 NL games in the early morning.

Kansas City: Hollywood KC Speedway is a small room, they has 1/3 NL and 2/5 PLO running in the afternoon.

So I managed to add a few chips to my collection and it was cool to scope out a few other poker regions.

I think it is imperative for poker players to set goals for themselves in poker and life. I feel like I have advanced and put a ton of time into poker over the last year. Over the next year I want to maintain things on the poker front but also exert more effort and focus in non poker related areas of my life.

I put in 1500 hrs the previous couple yrs, I will top that this year which is great.

Cool travels, good to see as much of the country as you can before you obtain any baggage.

GL with the marathon training, be especially cautious when you hit 12+ mile runs...seems to be an inflection point for injuries.

Hal Higdon has good beginner's plans, you might also check out Jeff Gaudette's site: http://runnersconnect.net/...he has good nutrition info and plans that go a bit further than just telling you how far to run.

I really love architecture, I wanted to be an architect when I was a kid. I built a lot of cool stuff with k'nex. Skyscrapers are esspecially fascinating to me. Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper and has the highest concentration of them outside of NYNY in the USA.

I only logged 13.5/60 of my target hrs. Volume was extremely low because I got sick and didn't feel like I would be able to play well. I am going to shoot for 50 hrs this mini challenge. I am finally feeling better and eager to get back to putting in some 8 hr sessions.

I went to the Bay for Thanksgiving, it was good to see friends and family. I passed through LA on the way there and checked out a few of the smaller casinos: Hustler, Normandie, Crystal, Players. I also played at one of the big casinos: Hawaiian Gardens which is actually a couple of circus tents. They are finally constructing a permanent building 17 years after opening.

I stopped at Chumash just north of Santa Barbara aswell. This trip brings my chip collection into the triple digits.

Hustler had a 1k max BI for their 3/5, all the rest of the rooms had only 1/2, 1/3, 2/3 games running with higher rake, pay to chop and smaller BI structures compared to Vegas small stakes.

Thanks dude, travel is addictive and there is so much of the world still to see. Hammond is a nice room and well run from my sample size of 1 session.

I will take advantage of not having a serious job, relationship or responsibilities at this point in life.

Thanks for the recommendation that site looks very informative. I will be watching my nutritional intake more diligently than ever which should benefit my poker playing too.

My father is an avid runner and he gave me a good book for training that contains practical tips aswell as motivation.
