One year ago today I hiked to the top of Camelback Peak, I did a lot of thinking on that hike. I had less than 20 bucks to my name by the time I got back to Vegas. I had a new perspective on life and I was determined to hustle my hardest to make **** happen. One year later my bankroll is at an all time high and I am in a fairly comfortable spot. I really feel I have some direction in life, I can see where I fit into the world. I am not perfect by any means but I feel good if make a little progress everyday towards becoming a better person.
I am planning to hit the road tomorrow and go on a little adventure.
I knocked out 41/75 hrs of my target volume, I fell short but when I did play it was quality play with no big blunders. I ended up taking 3 days off which is the first time I have taken more than a single day off since summit. Going through the breakup made me feel some emotions I haven't felt in a long time and I didn't feel like my head would be clear enough to play solid poker. It was a great feeling knowing I was a really awesome boyfriend and the relationship ended on a high note, I am grateful for the memories that were made. I ended up logging 160 hrs in October which I think is about the right number of hrs for me. I will be allocating more time and energy to goals outside of poker.
I am going to shoot for 40 hrs this mini challenge.
A few random life goals I will be working on:
- Train and get in shape to run a marathon.
I've been running a mile or two every other morning for most of the year. I am going to gradually increase the distance.
- Start a band here in Vegas.
I haven't played in a band since I left Oakland and I really miss band practice and playing gigs so I'll be saving up for a new amp and seeking out some like minded musicians.
- Exhibit my art at a festival.
I've been pretty busy with creating new paintings since my last show and also building a couple websites.
- Travel to Europe.
I'd like to work hard over the next year and save up enough money to go by next fall.
- Go on as many dates as possible.
I'm a lot more confident around women and my self esteem is a lot higher than a few years ago when I was an alcoholic and dealing with depression and anxiety. I feel like I have a lot to offer and girls are lucky to meet me and experience my reality. I still am not sure exactly what I am looking for in women so I figure I have approximately 4 years to mess around before I really want to settle down a start a family.
- Start a nonprofit organization of poker players.
There are a lot of scummy people in the poker world. I want to demonstrate that we can do something for others and make to world a better place. It doesn't have to be extravagant, I just want to start by making some sandwiches and hand them out to the homeless.

Thought I'd comment on this. I don't know if he's a good friend or how good. My view is don't let poker get in the way of your other friendships. I get the don't tap the tank thing, preserve the game. But if this guy is a real friend, I would count that as more important than preserving the game (the micro/nano effect telling one guy can have). imho.
He is kid I used to blaze with during breaks back when I was grinding at Oaks. He also played in the Berkeley home games. I told him about 2+2 as a critical resource for improving but I don't think he ever got into it. He aspires to be a pro but honestly I'm not sure if he has what it takes. He has dusted off most of his cash at 5/10 and is back playing 1/2 and crashing on our couch. I am more than happy to offer advice if he wants it.

The huge upfront from the first two months would probably pay for 6 months of you being there.
Short term leases at nice places can be very worthwhile. Both to the people getting the place, and those that have them.
which
Yeah I may try that down the line once I have a little more money laying around, good idea.
