Pretty silly.

Gazzy, are you planning on playing online again? Seems like it would be a bit of a head**** getting back onto the 100 and 200z streets after playing those huge live pots.

Bellagio has a strict policy of no passes/no rake reductions during WSOP. As you've been playing there all summer, he probably assumed you knew that. If you really wanted to play that guy hu, why didn't you just pay the $16 yourself? As an aside, Matt is one of the best supervisors there as well imo.

Agreed second story is outrageous.

The sad thing is, most scottish people would give body parts to merely qualify for a world cup. The only thing they're worse at is gaining independence.

You were def in the wrong for the first story. A lot of places actually do make you pay more (or enforce a "minimum time") for HU on time raked games. $8/person is extremely generous -- why would they want to keep a dealer/table open making $16/hh? If it was pot-raked game then he has a big incentive to keep the game going and you'd be in the right.

Ofc he didn't have to be a dick about it, but that's besides the point

Agree second story is absurd tho

Inferiority complex. Similar mentality for a lot of people in Wales, though to be fair there’s also people who aren’t so bitter and want England to do well in both places.

In my city a similar story plays out with Port Vale and Crewe Alex. They’ll never be as big and successful as Stoke City. The only joy they can ever hope to experience is seeing Stoke City fail. That’s their oxygen.

The scottie national team are the Crewe Alex of home nation football. Insignificant and hopeless.

2nd half Croatia were superb. England were fortunate to get to ET and Croatia fully deserved to win. GL in the final.

You have literally summed up in 2 posts the levels of arrogance that make it impossible for any home nation (apart from Northern Ireland and their bizarre love in with anything England related) to want England to succeed. Scotland are a very average football team, in recent years we have had many chances to qualify and blown it for our failure to beat the likes of Slovenia, Slovakia and Georgia. There is, however, absolutely no link between our own failures and our sheer delight at England's inevitable demise every 2 years. In 2016 almost every Scot was delighted to see Wales and NI do so well. The level of coverage both teams received on British TV (funded by all 4 corners of the UK) was absolutely nothing compared to England in 2018. Not even close.

The reason we find so much joy in your failings is summed up in your post. The sheer arrogance from the majority of England fans, their media, and their politicians is utterly laughable. I watched the US coverage of the game but from what I hear the half time debate back home from TV pundits at half time was what England were going to have to do in order to be successful against France in the final. At half time! While 1-0 up against a far superior team??? All we've heard for weeks since you scraped past Tunisia and then beat a team of farmers comfortably is how "it's coming home". Everything, from the articles on the BBC website, the self-obsessed commentators who are meant to be talking about Brazil vs Mexico but still find a way to say the phrase "1966" every ten minutes, to the fans smashing up bus stops in London, everything that we have heard from down south has summed up the English to a tee. Arrogant, arrogant wankers who immediately assume that everyone else is just jealous and can't understand why nobody likes them. It's the exact same as both arsecheeks of the Old Firm.

There are of course TOTAL exceptions to this rule. Firstly, as a team of individual football players, guys like Kane, Rashford, Wilshere (how he didn't go was mind boggling), Walker, Stones, Ali (although he did nothing all summer) etc are an absolute joy to watch. In recent history, guys like Rooney, Lampard, Ferdinand etc etc were all class. Paul Scholes is hand on heart my footballing hero. He's even above James McFadden ffs! I'd have absolutely no qualms about wishing them well if it weren't for the arrogance and condescending bull**** from anyone and everyone else. Another exception is your gaffer. Southgate appears to be a quality young coach and one of the very few who judging by his post match comments realised that England were getting carried away beyond belief and that they didn't deserve to win last night. Final exception to the rule is some fans. I'm not just saying this because they're my pals and I don't want them to hate me when I see them again next month but guys like Ben, Stevie and a few of the boys I play football with in London have been somewhat irked by my gloating but have at least been gracious in defeat. On the flipside you've immediately assumed it's because everyone is super jealous of the sheer brilliance of the England team and fail to see how anyone could ever feel happiness at the expense of cuddly old England. Another example is one of the nicest guys I've ever met in my life through poker in London last night on Facebook told me to "go die you silly jock ****". Beer inflicted or not that's no way to react to someone who doesn't want your football team to win.

There is no jealousy involved from Scotland's part. There is no inferiority complex. There is no hatred for decent football fans who want their country to do well. There is no apathy towards quality English football players who play good football that is enjoyable to watch. Their is only sheer delight at the level of pure seethe when England get put out and their fans are raging.

In short, get it right up you England. 52 years of hurt. Here's to many, many more.

Edit - the above is of course not directed at you Shelly, more a general post about why Scotland take so much joy in England losing.

Ye tbh I don't even know why I took the bait. I was over it 2 mins after the final whistle. Suppose deciding to stay away from the ridiculousness of the media obituaries and then logging into one of my favourite threads on 2p2 and seeing you trolling made me want to say some hurtful things even if I don't agree with them. Dumb on my part because, as I've said many times on Stoke City forums, if the national team disappeared it wouldn't ruin my day. Just a bit of fun every (slightly more than) 2 years on average.

Stoke getting relegated however put a lump in my throat for days.

And FWIW, I always support Wales, NI and Scotland in internationals, or any other sport for that matter. (squash is commonwealth so I support the home nation lads even though they represent their nations, not UK)

Also I've just seen a video of England trying to score a goal when Croatia were celebrating their 2nd. Think there's a rule that if all outfield players are off the pitch (celebrating on the touchline with their fans) the other team can legally restart and have an empty pitch. Made me feel sick and ashamed.

Didn’t even know the word jock was a thing, do people actually say that as an insult?

Gary’s post was obv just bait but the disdain people hold for England seems strange to me and I’ve never thought was actually a serious thing. Idk if that’s just ignorance but I’ve never particularly noticed it and where I have it’s usually pretty dumb people (not directed at OP).

Croatia deserved to win anyway and I think people are over exaggerating how much we’ve achieved. It’s mainly gutting because of how good of a chance this was and I don’t expect to see another chance this good for a long time.

Whenever I read the immense effort that goes into this drivel it reminds me of how when I was young and immature I would talk **** to my English friends about how they just had an inferiority complex because they lost the war and “we” (US) became this successful nation, etc.

Then I remember my entire family is just a couple generations removed from Britain and am reminded of how vastly stupid, pointless, and potentially dangerous nationalism is.

If only we could just remind ourselves that we are all simply human and our constant need to separate the “us” from the “them” will eventually be the undoing of our species as a whole.

Anyways, carry on

I'm staying in the mucho glamorous Silver Sevens casino for the last week of my trip and can't get my laptop to work hence lack of updates. Lost about 5k last 3 sessions, not the worst but not ideal. 3 days left!

Fun story from yesterday, a rec asked Tuff Shark where he was from, and he said "The Netherlands!" The rec says "Damn, I've played with a lot of Dutch guys lately..." and I said to the rec "yeahhhh, and they're all tough sharks" and I winked at tuff shark and honestly I think it might've been the best moment of my life

Tuff Shark has to be one of the nicest, most charismatic HS guys at the tables. There's a fine line between fun and charming, and annoying and arrogant, and he's right on the good side of that line. Great guy.
