I'll post a few hands .I think I did well to figure out who the fish were quick in the session today and play lots of pots with them. A player was limp/calling raises and flatting raises super wide with hands like 96o, T4s etc so my plan was to get involved with him and bluff him on only very favourable boards and runouts for my range but mainly just value bet really thin.
I was playing 1/3 today and I really like the game. This was one of my first times playing live poker on a weekday and I think I had a really good table the action was great. Most players were straddling buttons and there were a lot of pots over $100.
One hand I remember was BU straddled for $6 SB completed and in the BB I completed for $3 with 74o. I'll complete almosts anything suited and anything that can make a straight. The player on my left who I think is a decent player raised to $20 and had 5 callers so I called the last $14 to make the pot $120. People play pretty passive or cautious in big pots here I've noticed. The flop came J84 2tone and it checked through. The turn was a 4 and I lead out for 2/3 or $80 as I would with any AJ, J8,4x, T9, 76, 65 and good flushdraws. I think people check a weak range that isn't protected enough so I would lead often. Only one player called who was the calling station. He's already hero called me a few times and he hasn't been right yet. I was just printing off him. The river was a 9 that completes the T7, QT draws that he might have but I think it's best to still bet and fold if he raises. I bet $150 into $280 and he called I could've maybe bet a bit bigger but at this point I hit a piece with the 9 with some of my range and don't have many bluffs to protect since I would give up with a lot of hands vs this player. I didn't see what he had but he wasn't too upset so I don't think it was too good.
Another big pot I won off him was with K8s in the small blind in another straddled. I can't remember what happened preflop but the flop was 3 way and the pot was $70 on KT5 I had top pair and 2nd nut flushdraw and lead out $35 only same stationy player called. Turn I hit my flush on a lowcard and bet half pot again $70 into $140. River was an 8 and I valuebet pretty big I think $200 into $280 and he called, I didn't see what he had.
These hands were just the more obvious valuebets and bigger pots I played but I won a lot of smaller pots with 2nd pair etc vs the station that I think I played well to extract value.
The hand I spewed and I think is a clear punt is with T8s. I raised from Hijack and decent player on my left flatted and hyper nit overcalled on the button then the station in big blind that I was targetting also called. Flop was K85 two tone $60 on flop and it checked to nit button who bet slightly over pot for $66. I think my first mistake here is calling this bet since the guy is a massive nit who is never bluffing enough to make this a call. I should be overfolding KTo make even KJ if I had a blocker to the flushdraw that I would also check OOP. Then the guy on my left who also checked to the nit shoves for $114 more. The nit only had $50 left so he called and I tanked thinking I hope they both have flushdraws like a fish and I called. $180 that I shouldn't have put in the pot
I made some big laydowns too other than that punt I think I played well and got close to max value and a few well chosen bluffs through. I'm happy with my live game. I've progressed a lot since Vegas and Montreal and I'm pumped to be going to Edmonton tomorrow for deepstacks tourneys for a week. Cash games don't get enough dealers during the tournament series but I'll try to play as much of them as I can when I'm not grinding the tourneys.
