Poker Goals for 2012

• To get 500k VPPs
• To not make any more deposits (except for bonuses)
• To cash out all bonuses (except for 1st $4000 bonus and $1200 milestones)

I've been a long time lurker at 2+2 but I've decided this is a good time to join in and start one of these goal threads. My goal is an ambitious one, not least because in my 5 years of playing online poker I've never been a winning player except at $1.5 SNGs! I've always wanted to be a solid cash game player, be it at No-limit, Fixed limit or PLO, but I've always ended up getting crushed. Tilt has played a big part in this but fundamentally I'm just a weak player and I hope this year I can really improve my cash game.


I'll be honest; I have no idea how I'm going to achieve this, since I can't really beat any games, but I'm just going to set the bar high and just see what happens. I don't have a job at the minute so the 'no more deposits' goal is an absolute must. I can't afford to reload (except for bonuses) so I'm going to be very conservative with bank roll management. This is where I'm starting from:





The challenge has been made even more difficult with PokerStars' recent changes to rake/VPP distribution. I had thought I might be able to MMT PLO 10 or something until I cleared the first 4k bonus and then move up from there. But the changes make that option much less viable; I tried playing some PLO5 and my VPP was almost half of what it was before.


I meant to post this on the 1st but I was grinding all day and was too tired in the end. I've been grinding all day too and I will make another post later with yesterday's and today's results.

Been following old patterns of playing too many tables, tilting spewing money. Terrible start. Looks like it'll be dying then lol. I won't even make 5k vpps at this rate of fail.



Yesterday tried 24 tabling plo5; lost ~$25. Also tried NL5 with same result. Then I played 8 -10 $0.25/$0.50 Limit; broke even for a ~6k hands. Moved to $0.5/$1, broke even again but then got frustrated and spewed $50. Then played some $1.50 18-mans and spewed them all losing about $30.

Guess I'll try $.5/$1 tomorrow and spew another ~$100.

I'll keep posting screenshots of my dwindling BR. It should be a pretty good laugh for anyone reading.

Why 500k VPPs? Wouldnt it be better to just try to build your bankroll up playing games you can beat.... you have a solid bankroll already plenty enough to play NL25, or NL10

Yeah, I know, you're right. I'm being way too ambitious. I'm just a fool lured in by Stars' marketing. Oh well, maybe I'll turn it around and be crushing $5/$10 by the end of the year...(lol)

sn and sne should only be there for players playing for a living. It should be a bonus and not your primary way to way to make your money.

I think you have gone about your 2012 goals all wrong mate. Focusing on achieving supernova elite is something you are not ready for. Achieving this is for people who are consistent winners when they 4 table let alone 10+ table.

Make a new goal on picking one game and becoming amazing at it by learning, posting HH etc in the blog.

You are making the biggest mistake of playing whatever you can see, on various stakes. You are comfortably rolled for 25nl, start there and work your way up. 24-tabling is only for the elitist of players, 90% can't do it man

GL and let us know what you decide, would really hate to see that 1k turn to 0 before the week has ended.

Yeah I definitely agree I should work more on my game first. I'll keep this thread though. Don't want to keep starting new ones.

To be fair I only 24-tabled NL5 and PLO5 as an experiment to see a) what the new rake changes did to my VPP count, and b) if I could cope playing that many tables. I obviously couldn't so I then moved to 8-10 tables of fixed limit. But I definitely see your point and I think 8 tables should be the absolute max from now on.

Tilt issues are the biggest problem. I'm going to play some more $0.5/$1 FL Hold'em today, 8 tables maximum, but if I surrender to spew again like last night, I'll drop down to $0.25/$0.5 and just play 4-6 tables. I might play some 10NL too and try and slowly build a database of non-spewy hands so I can better work out my leaks etc.

I'm also going to try and not look at my roll until I've stopped playing for the day. Hopefully this might reduce tilt potential.

...back to grinding micro SNGs then.

Please find one game and stick to it... I get the feeling you have not even watched many videos or articles in a particular area of poker, just dabbling in everything with your broad knowledge of the game.

Hate to sound like I'm having a go but my biggest mistake was going from SNG's to HU to FR to MTT's to 6 max.... pick a game, start at the limit that you have 40 buys in for and go from there...
