Here we are again, one year since the last update on my old blog, I'm going for a new one. For those interested in my 2015 challenge here's the link: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17.../#post45311889

I'll make a quick recap of what happened since March of last year, when I decided to close the challenge and end my deal with Hans. Once we split the profit I found myself in April 2015 with barely enough of a bankroll to play NL25. My moral was at his lowest point for failing the goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year.

I took a month off in which I didn't even play a single hand and came back rested and fresh to restart from where I stopped. This time stress-free of volume, level ups and VPP goals to reach. I restarted exactly from NL25, mostly regular tables and only sometimes added zoom.
The winrate at the zoom format was always inferior but it has always been the one I liked the most, but more than anything, the one I've always wanted to beat the most, despite my recent failure.

In a few months I brought the bankroll back up to play NL50 and start taking shots at NL100. It's July 2015 and looking at my VPP situation I decided to make a new plan to reach at least the fifth Milestone. It was quite a bit of volume but it would have still left me the opportunity to take some days off when things just didn't go my way. It also left me enough time to re build my game from scratch, since I was basically starting again from the bottom. I played a mix of regular tables and zoom NL50 exclusively untill November, mostly grinding rakeback with some very marginal profit at the tables.

Meanwhile quite a few things changed in my life outside of the game. I got a new house and moved in my girlfriend, and that brought a bunch of surprises. I started getting back to a normal person's "schedule", buy stuff, fix home, bills to pay etc etc. Nothing new for the majority of you I bet but I'm sure quite a few of you also recognize themselves in what was my usual day "Wake up and 2pm cause I was up till 6 in the morning, there's always gonna be food in the house anyway".
In all that, my girlfriend has always been supportive when It came to my choices and even if it took a while, she had accepted poker. Up until that point however, she hadn't been directly affected by what it means to play cards for a living. When we finally moved in together, we sat down and made things clear to me. She was ok with me playing poker professionally, but I had to show her that It was going to be worth it, else I was off to get a another job.
We're very different in most aspects but I've had her by my side for so many years and she definitely helped me staying on the right track, I owe her a lot. In a few things however we're quite similar, basically her indirect approach to poker was "Go Big or Go Home".

It's the last two years of 2015, the bankroll had grown enought to play bigger than NL50 and I was ahead in my VPP grind schedule. So I decided to dive into NL100 head down, playing less tables, more focused trying to use everything I had re-learned in those months. Without wasting a hand, without giving up a pot. I played less than half the volume I was used to, mostly regular tables and closed November in the green and my best month to date, almost 5k counting rakeback.
In December, strong of my previous results and still with my milestone to reach (milestone + rakeback was 6k) I jumped into the NL100 Zoom hungry to take it down. I had my first month with a positive red line and my first 10.000 euro month with profit + rakeback:

We're finally in 2016, since Stars changed the VIP system I had to give up my SNE plan and added some other rooms. I kept studying and kept a low volume for my standards, focusing on my game every single day. At least I tried.
Slowly moved up to NL200, beat that just enough to keep moving up without too much worries. Once I reach NL400, still riding my good run, I took it head on and crashed it:

Here we are now, one year later. As I said many things changed outside of poker and I had to change my plan, on top of everything in a few months I'll become dad. Therefore, the time I can dedicate to the game will be reduced and I won't be able to move out of Italy to play on .com as I had in mind. I'm sure however it will be well worth it to put my poker aspirations aside for a while.

Hence the blog title, from now on the goal will be to earn a little more free time to dedicated myself to the everything else while still maintaning my job and my passion that is to play poker.

Update on the first ten days of April. Over the last couple of months I slowly started to play more 3-4 handed and HU. Mostly to add something new and improved my game in formats where I'm not used to play. In part because despite all I can't keep myself from going to war against other regs. I just have to play them, the competitive side of me can't resist. It's important at this point that my desire to play the bests doesn't become my downfall.

The results of this month so far would be mediocre and they're influenced by the fast that I sat two regs at NL1000. Against both of em I had quite a big history and notes from mid stakes, figured I could have a solid edge.
On the first one, my reads were correct and I managed to get a little more than a stack off him before he left. As for the second, It was definitely harder as he immediately adapted to the flow. Cards were still on my side but It was me who quit this time.

I later found out the identity of the second reg and It could have easly gone the opposite way. Thefore, the goal for now will be to avoid these spots unless they present at a limit where I can swing several stacks without too many worries. I'll focus on aggressive table selection and possibly take some shots at NL1000 6max If I catch a good table.

Second update of the month. In short, a big disappointment. Here ends the NL1k shot. I'm happy I could play it, I've had a couple of sessions that could have potentially changed the month, maybe the year. Things didn't go my way, but I've no regrets. Games were absolutely amazing and at some point the dynamics were absolutely out of control even against the other regs. I'm post a couple of hands after the graph.

A couple of thoughts of the high stakes that I've played untill today:

- Traffic affects results a lot, maybe too much. NL1000 is the highest playable stake online where I live, the action is what it is even on Stars. There are fishes however and when they show up it's a swarm of regs, even those who normally only play mid-low stakes. The field has been overall super easy these days. The big issue is that there's only 1-2 tables running at best, so once swinging 5 or 10 stacks when things don't go your way that means 2 or 3 months at mid stakes to recover.

- The bankroll related to the flow of these games. I found myself at the table with 2-3 huge whales completely out of their mind, openshoving 100b+ any two. Regs trying to isolate them with very marginal holdings. Basically, every single hand I opened I had to be ready to stack off even in marginal spots. That made swings even worse, I even busted my roll on one of the rooms I was playing and redepositing certain amounts is a long/intricate process here. While I was confident with my roll once I decided to take the shot, I think It's better to have an even larger cushion for these games. Swings of 10+ stacks can happen in a couple of hundred hands.

For these last 10 days of April I decided to drop down to mid stakes and leave NL600-1000. I'll be streaming some more maybe, to keep myself focused on this goal (https://www.twitch.tv/evanertvif you wanna follow). I'm sad I have to leave NL1k for now, especially cause I keep seeing the same whales at the table every morning. At the same time, I don't want to risk playing outside of my bankroll and then have to drop even more in stakes.

Quick April recap. Disappointing month overall. Did ok at low-mid stakes and very bad with the NL600-1000 shot. Unfortunately as I said the traffic is very low at these limits to invest so many stacks. It's almost impossible to recover once you're down 5+. The two whales I played with trew everything back to the other regs over a couple of days, one of them was at NL20 this morning, the other disappeared.
Goal for May is to focus on NL100 and 200 where there's always traffic. I'll try to refine my game on these two limits and hopefully gain a couple bb/100 on each, since these are the limits where I play most of my volume anyway.

Update May 2016:

Intense month, I didn't have time to update inbetween and I think that's gonna be the trend from now on. I will still try to update once a month. I had a lot to do at home, preparing for the new arrival but all in all it's going good. Quite happy with volume, can't complain.
Very little time for streaming but I managed to set aside a couple of hours and uploaded a NL50 liveplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGVoG22Za34 . Gonna have to review that because there's a couple of interesting spots that I messed up :P

Play wise, very hard first half of the month, a disaster at NL100 and 200 where I played bad and ran worse, hence the negative bb/100 on the graph.
A good second half tho, as usual strong selection on NL400, 600 and 1000 saves the green line. I also played quite a bit of HU and 3-4handed this month, enjoyed those a lot especially because I've had the opportunity to play a bunch of strong regs and they didn't quit after a couple of hands. Those games are the ones where I certainly learn the most and I don't really mind losing some stacks in order to play with some of the best players on my field.

The graph is missing 6789eur from a new room that I added this month but couldn't track no matter what:

Update June 2016

Another month in the bag, finally I should say. Went decent on mid stakes and bad at NL1000. More than once I forced myself to play better regs or sunrunning fishes. Tilted off several stacks at the limit where it hurts the most. Quite disappointed overall as that was my worst month mindset wise in a good while. It's the one thing I worked the most on lately and the one that got me up the limits, so every slip off hurts even more.

As usual, I don't really care about results, the sample is what it is, but considering the house duties and upcoming summer I can't complain. I would have prefered a breakeven month but solid mindset wise.

Positive note: I played a lot of HU and I'm improving a ton. Against some regs I realize there's no chance quite yet but I don't mind paying some BBs to improve, when they do sit me. I'll try to keep playing it as much as possible, I really love the competitive aspect of this format.

Update July 2016

Here ends my best month so far this year. Other than results and volume, both of which were solid, I'm very happy about the quality of my game and the mindset I kept thru the swings. A lot of heads up, where I sat regs exclusively and in 6max too, I didn't back off against strong lineups where I had minimal or even no edge. To improve and become the best you gotta play and beat the bests, there's no way around it.

This month I managed to make ground against opponents that since a few months ago would play me easly. Slowly but surely I closed the gap and against some of them who gave me action HU I went all out and took them down. My favourite part about all these regs wars is the studying of the opponents' patterns, break their game hand after hand, sessions after session. Find their leaks, exploit them and slowly pick em apart, strip their edge just enough to make them feel hopeless in every single spot.

Against some there's still work to do, especially 2-3, not gonna post name, they're still out of my reach. August will be all relax, since it's my girlfriend's off work month, so I'll enjoy her belly and the italian sea. Then I've still got September and October to grind hardcore and in November I'll start moving on to recreational, and dad!

Update August 2016

End of summer, since tomorrow I'm back on the grind. I was away almost the whole month, enjoyed the sea and only really played for a bunch of days. Few but good ones, ran hot on all stakes both 6max and HU so loving life. I still have two months left of work before my firstborn so I gotta be on top of my game. I'll try to avoid marginal spots and reg wars against the good ones, all swingy games basically. Don't really wanna ruin this last period as a free man.
I'm evaluating the possibility of a bankroll challenge on zoom micros or spins for November, maybe stream it on twitch. Probably won't have any strenght nor time to fight regs in those 4-6 weeks, so having something to keep me active but still stress free might be a good idea.

Graph, missing about 1.9k that I couldn't track no matter what:

Particularly tight reg in 3-4bet pots, interesting showdown.

Reg, more of a station than aggro, never donked turned since we started playing in 3 bet pots. Seems extremely polarized on that blank river. I struggle to put him on anything other than AQ-KQ and I don't consider him good enough to play them that way for value. I feel compelled to call down to get rid of that doubt.

Too much equity to check turn? Too tight of a fold river? Butchered the hand in more than one street probably, didn't have time to analize it properly yet. Intersting size river from him, he's tighter than most regs, especially river. I don't thing he's able to turn some 2 pair or busted into a bluff and I beat very little of value. At the same time, I'm basically folding my whole value range if I let go of A8 there.

Thanks man! I'm playing on .it. The pool is about as big as .eu but we can't play any higher than NL1k and can't even autoreload/rebuy there. The level is somewhat low on all rooms up to mid stakes where it gets harder. At NL1k it's mostly the same regs on all networks and I'm almost exclusively battling regs with minimal bumhunt lately, fishes are rare there. I would say at mid-high stakes the level is very similar on all networks with Stars being the more populated/most action one.

Update September 2016

Interesting month, let's get rid of the graph right away. I never really watch the yellow line quite frankly, feels pointless, this month I took a look towards the end, was curious. It's also the first month of the year where I've had a blue line below 0, by quite a lot in fact, can't post it so you'll have to trust me on that

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

What can I say, barely in the green thanks to rakeback, could have done a little less bad had I taken some days off but at the end of day I said to myself poker is all a big long session and kept going. Tables were good, had a lot of good spots but unfortunately couldn't quite win a showdown with value. Bluffs didn't get thru and in the end I pushed it too far in a few situations. Had a brief review, most of these were legit, I have no regrets honestly.

There is some positive however. I kept a decently strong mindset thru the month. Had a rough start with a 9k swing at 1k in two sessions, moved the bulk of my volume at 200 and 400 where I did good. The sample is meaningless but looking at the yearly overall I have an expected between 8 and 10bb at these stakes. Quite pleased with that result I reached.

Different story with 600-1000 where I tend to play any lineup and battle regs, traffic is low and the swings are larger. My expected there is certainly much lower, hard to say exactly where cause of the low volume. Always good in HU, love it more every month and it's a lot of fun.

Negative note: I was badly tilted by a famous italian high stakes reg, Davide Suriano, the guy is also a WSOP bracelet winner. Needless to say the guy is a mediocre player at best, so couldn't be happy to have him at the tables. What made me explode was the fact he kept asking the recreationals to move HU with him. Often times the fish would just get tired of it and leave. Obviously he never gives action HU or 6max to me or any other reg, as much as I love the fact he trows money in the pool I can't help but feel the guy is a real cancer for the italian poker.
Rant off, here's a hand showcasing his marvellous plays:

Update October 2016 & Year wrap up

Time to wrap up October and my last month of the year as professional. From tomorrow I'll be a recreational finally, till date to define. Goal of the blog achieved, wasn't particularly hard admittedly

Let's recap this 2016. I'm happy with my results from January till today. Before getting into the monetary side of things, which is the easier way to judge for most of us here, I'd like to spend a few words of what can't be seen from the graph, the "behind the scenes".

Failing last year's challenge with Hans was maybe the single hardest thing to deal with in my poker career and in general my whole life, as far as reaching goals go. Certainly I wasn't ready for the amount of stress and a simple change of approach to this job got very different results this year.
Obviously that is not an excuse, If I could go back I wouldn't change a thing, that failure made me grow for sure. At the same time I never doubted for a single second that I could get wherever I wanted in poker, I know I really didn't do anything special this year but I still shows I'm going in the right direction. In a way I feel lighter, relieved.

Now I'll enjoy some rest, the kid coming and at least a few weeks without poker. Certainly I'll keep grinding, I love the game too much, but I'll take a couple of months to dick around at zoom or spins, no high stakes or HU wars.

On to results. October was my best month ever, was pretty sure it would have been to be honest, I took a totally different approach compared to the other 9 months of the year. I played almost exclusively the easiest lineups of the field, avoided the best players and only gave action to much worse players HU, mostly Suriano. Admittedly he's a good portion of my profit this time, but without too many words I simply went full bumhunt the whole month.

Results October:

Regarding 2016 overall, what can I say, I'm happy but I could have obviously been much better. Decent when it comes to 6max, considering I started from NL100 and ended at NL1k, in reality the level is quite similar from 200 up. It was more a matter of bankroll than actual skill difference, I had much bigger problems at the micros last year to be honest. The sample was small but once I realized I could keep 8+bb at 200 and 400 it was a downhill ride.
I started playing HU in March, I was basically a fish. Was a lot of fun tho, especially when playing better regs. I could see that my game was improving massively so I kept grinding even in less EV games. A couple of months that really hurt my bottom line, but overall I'd do it again for sure. I came to realize that it's the format where I could improve my game the most, the one in which you can really push my edge to the maximum, the spearhead of cash game.

Results 2016: (+11.2k untracked)

Best day & monthly breakdown:

Thanks mate, been following your journey aswell

I put together all the HU tabs, didn't bother with the lower limits:

As for bb/100, I played a lot of different stakes, even micros so I don't know how accurate it is, the overall is 2.51. My bread and butter stake, one I had most volume on is 400 tho:

The other stakes I have less than 40k hands.

Yea winning on People, I played a good portion of my HU 1k action there in fact, about half of it. Losing a ton on Boss Media tho, can't seem to catch a break there...

Overall 2016

Very quick recap to close the year. Last two months I dedicated myself to the baby who's coming up healthy and strong, was hard at the beginning but, especially at night but we're back on track at the moment.
I had originally planned not to play till new year but couldn't resist, love the game too much and I'm a degen at heart.

Nothing too extraordinary results whise, obviously had to dodge NL1k and I'll keep avoiding it. Can't use auto rebuy at it and that along with the low traffic tilts the **** out of me. Playing a lot of HU lately, always a lot of fun. Had some fun at the great game of PLO aswell, not quite as much success tho. In the nights of full moon I also played some MTTs, won't quite comment on those not to offend anyone, had a couple of deep 4 digit scores but still closed slightly above breakeven.

Lastly, I got rid of my youtube videos and I'll spend some more time on twitch, I'll try to stream everyday for a couple of hours. You'll catch me online at 2.30PM CET these days, if the kid allows me.

Enough for 2016, have fun everyone and wish you all a great new year!

Update January 2017

Back on grind in 2017!

I've been undecided whether or not update the blog. I now stream almost daily and it feels kind of redundant but at the same time I'm always asked for results so I guess I'll keep that as a place to store my monthly/yearly successes and fails for people to come and check.

Will mostly stick to graphs and reports, so here we go with January:
