The 3's hand is probably not a board to slow play. Although I'd probably just fold to 3bet pre, if you're defending 33 you're probably defending 22-66 and you're just going to be folding to so many cbets when you don't hit a set that you're not gonna cover those losses when you do. Unless you've got a specific read that he's likely to check give up AK when he doesnt hit, or x/f TT-KK on ace high boards then this is a bit of a spew.

EDIT: I see his 3b% is very high, so you probably thought you should defend wider, which is true, but this is probably too wide. Also vs such players (or just in general) you can open to 2.5x from the cut off so you'll have better implied odds as he *should* 3bet smaller vs that price.

Had a day off yesterday, back to the grind today. Reached 10k hands took me like 10 minutes to play the last 3 hands since i'm slightly OCD and I wanted to make sure the total hands was exactly 10,000 for my graph LOL!

Anyway, here are a few hands:

---------------------

#1 - Not sure whether this is a bad call or not, V's line just didn't make sense to me and I smelled a rat. Went with my gut instinct and was right I suppose lol.

There was a couple other interesting hands as well but I sometimes forget to tag them and I need to figure out how to search for them manually in PT, will definitely have half an hour or so working with PT4, i'm pretty terrible with technology stuff lol.

Anyway, as I said, finally reached 10k hands at 10nl - here is my graph

Happy with my results so far but still room for improvement which I will try my hardest to do obviously a tiny sample but hey ho the green line is above 0, that's always good right!?

Summary of tonight's sessions:

  • Session 1: -£11.44 (303 hands)
    Session 2: +£19.36 (303 hands)
    Session 3: -86p (276 hands)
    Session 4: +£9.04 (251 hands)
    Session 5: -£14.35 (244 hands)
    Session 6: +£13.99 (252 hands)
    Total Profit: £15.74 (1,629 hands)

---------------------

Finished early tonight as i'm going to do a little studying for my first live game in nearly 2 years tomorrow night, looking forward to it! Just need to brush up on my push/fold charts for tournament play etc and stuff like that, it's like riding a bike it will come back to me easily i'm sure . Will let everyone know how I get on

Thanks! yeah I tend to 3bet smaller IP and slightly bigger OOP, depending on how many callers i'll add a little extra just a habit and a little OCD I guess lol

Casino time soon! Wish me luck

Just got home, had a brilliant time playing live again was great! Just the feeling of physically being at a poker table, the feel of the fabric and the cards and the riffling of chips i've missed it so much lol. I'm not exactly the most sociable person out there but poker has always brung me out of my shell a little

For the tournament itself, no luck unfortunately! Felt I played rather well, stayed patient and waited for the right spots and after the first break when the blinds started going up a bit I loosened up a little.

One interesting hand which I took a quick note on my phone afterwards: (Apologies, can't remember the exact bet sizings but they are close enough lol)

Live Tournament - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: N/A
SB: N/A
BB: 100BB+

Hero (CO): Just under 100BB

SB posts SB, BB posts BB

Pre Flop: Hero has 9 8

fold to Hero, Hero raises to 2.5BB, BTN and SB fold, BB calls 1.5BB

Flop: (6-7BB, 2 players) 6 7 2
BB checks, Hero bets 3BB ish, BB raises to 15BB ish, Hero calls

Turn: (36BB ish, 2 players) A
BB bets roughly 25BB, Hero ? (Hero has roughly 80BB behind)

Spoiler:

Turn: (36BB ish, 2 players) A
BB bets roughly 25BB, Hero folds, Hero tries to engage V in conversation to tell me what he had, V just smiles and chuckles, V is the real Hero lol

BB had been pretty solid/tight so far after a couple orbits, no real reads. My image has been pretty solid/tight as well.

Open from CO, V defends. Flop an OESD and flush draw. Standard c-bet , V raises quite big. If it was a cash game I might go for it here with so much equity, but decide to call.

Turn is the A of clubs, V bets roughly 3/4, what are my options? (Apologies, can't remember the exact bet sizings I quickly took a note on my phone after the hand lol) I feel as if I do have implied odds here with my OESD but also reverse implied odds because V could be doing this with the nut flush draw who has paired his A on the turn (or A7ss). 77 also removes one of my spade outs.

Is it profitable to call here or fold and wait for a better spot? Should I be getting it in on the flop in a tournament?

I manually posted the hand from a random PT hand history incase anyone was wondering 'wtf a live hand from PT4?' lol, makes it a little easier to read I hope!

I also posted that hand in the strategy forums thought it was interesting enough.

Ended up going out just before the 2nd break, was down to 19BB and shoved over the top of a MP open with AKo, called by 55. Flop JJT giving me some extra outs, the J turn removed my Q outs, I cheekily said 'Jack one time c'mon but unfortunately the river was an unhelpful 3

Even though I didn't cash, it was still enjoyable, can't wait for my next one on Thursday! I will have to have a look at the cash games available as well, they were doing £1/2 at the time I think but there are 2 other casinos nearby as well so will have a look and might play a cash game before Thursday, will see

Gl mate. I get what you mean about live, it’s an extra thrill for sure although I’m sure if someone played live for a living the novelty wears off.

Where abouts are you playing?

Thanks! I played in Glasgow earlier, there are 3 casinos there in close proximity to each other but there are a couple in Edinburgh as well I need to check out. The Edinburgh cash games look brilliant since it's 50p/£1 or £1/£1 according to their website lol.

Yeah so definitely not my finest day at the tables, definitely have some stuff to work on. That's why I would love a coach with my staking deal if I get one, just to iron out these spots where i'm calling/bluffing a bit too much. At 5NL I wasn't but it seems there are a lot more fish and bluffing going on at 10NL.

Yeah i've changed it up a bit

Shout out to the nice mod who changed the thread title for me although the disclaimer joke bit was supposed to be in the actual first post lol!

Decided against heading to the casino to see what cash games are on offer, I found an easier way without trekking all the way there. Tomorrow i'll be playing in another tournament but tonight is all about the online grind again, will update with results etc later

Horrible day at the tables tonight, ran like utter **** but I felt I played well for the most part so that's a silver lining. Kept my emotions in check, continued to grind away and stay patient. A few years ago I would have probably tilted off a few extra BIs the way it was going so there's some positivism coming from it

H2 - Not sure about the flop 3b. They’re repping a strong range but there aren’t too many combos of sets (4 total as no AA presumably) and not a great deal of 2prs. At the same time it’s hard to know what semi bluffs they might do this with, maybe some flush + gs to wheel draws, or a NFD which you’re mostly happy to get it in against. I think you have to get pretty creative to come up with hands that they could 4b-pile that we even flip with, let alone crush.
I think I’d just opt to flat as it’s a reasonably dry board and we block a lot of the draws. The 3b basically eliminates their potential spews.

H4 - Never folding, it’s just a cooler. Only 17 hands on this player, they can have 99 and 88 but also so many combos of KQ and possibly even some stuff like NFD that decide to bluff river, or even be so inexperienced that they pile with just Qx combos for the relatively weak straight. It sucks but you can’t think of folding there unless you have good information that your opponent isn’t a rec.

H5 (says 4) - ye this is fine with QQ. Might be tough with JJ but I’ve seen right seeming recs tilt-pile TT and AQ in this spot, which is probably a response to the higher levels of 3betting and squeezing. Also, recs will generally play AA as a non-so 4b.

GL mate, enjoying the thread.

that should say non-allin 4b at the end of summary for hand 5, typing on phone sucks

Also, on H2, you also have to get creative to come up with bluffs that would even CRAI there as it just isn't the type of board almost any player would air-bluff, as a CRAI especially. And their value is going to be heavily weighted towards the hands that dominate you as they can't have many strong one pair Ax, and it's unlikely most of their one pairs will CRAI. Makes it even more of a flat as opposed to 3b flop.

Yeah I regretted the 3bet as soon as I did it, I sometimes get too excited with hands like pair + FD, gutshot + FD etc but after he went all in I just went with it, knew I wasn't drawing dead.

Yeah, i'm beating 88, 99 and T8 as well but ahhh at that moment in time just the speed of the all-in made my gut instinct go absolutely crazy and my gut instincts are usually spot on. But in the end decided i'm beating too many hands to make a sick laydown but meh still an annoying feeling afterwards lol.

Oh god I can't count to 5 lol I've seen this as well, to be honest i've seen it with worse hands than TT and AQ but still one of those situations where you just roll your eyes, call, and hope it's not AA/KK

GL mate, enjoying the thread.

Cheers mate, yours is enjoyable too

Yeah definitely, maybe a semi-bluff like 34ss, 68ss or 78ss would do this which i'm crushing but more than likely it's always A5/A9 or 55 here.

I had outs at least, just couldn't hit them

No luck tonight, made it to the final 2 tables, was an average stack until I called a short stacked all-in with 99 against 55, hits the 5 on the turn of course then after that I was a short stack, got it in soon after with QJs v A10 but couldn't improve

But it was an enjoyable game, felt I played really well, I had a couple good players at my table at the start who put me to the test a couple times but I held my own

They were running a cash game all throughout the night as well so that's good to know for the future, but it was a bit too late to start playing after I got knocked out lol.

Onto the next one! This weekend will consist of playing online for the most part. Tomorrow 100% online, Saturday will probably be a day off due to football/drinking etc and I may play live again on Sunday, depends. I won't decide until the actual day, that's the way I roll But will definitely reach 15k hands by the end of the weekend

I need my own catchphrase to end my posts with, any ideas?

Damn how fun a game is PLO right? Best game ever to play when drunk, every single hand is worth playing especially at 2nl, hand like TJ62 easy fold normally but whatever i'm drunk and it's worth 2 pence to see a flop eh? LOL

No proper poker tonight, back on it tomorrow!

Another very productive day at the tables tonight, my confidence is sky high right now, feel like i'm playing the best poker since I came back from my hiatus. Also running super hot as well, such a good feeling, hope it lasts!

Would have played more hands if I didn't have lagging issues through the night, don't know what caused it since every other website was working fine and there was no complaints from anyone else about Stars lagging , it took 10 seconds for every new hand to start, and another 10 seconds or so for my cards to appear was pretty annoying but it didn't throw me off my game at least.

Anyway, onto the hands!

Not sure if i'll be playing live tomorrow or not, i'm coughing like mad right now and don't want to sit at a poker table coughing non-stop, touching the cards and chips etc i'm sure the other people wouldn't want that lol. I'll probably just play a little online instead, see how I feel once I wake up

Oh yeah one other hand I meant to post about how blocker bets seem to work an absolute treat at these stakes. Most players aren't good enough to know what i'm doing so instead of checking and possibly facing a bigger bet and a tough decision, I bet small and fold to any raise (obv won't do this against a competent player, but at 10nl there isn't many)

For example this hand here:

There were a couple other better hands I could've picked but I forgot to tag them and can't be arsed finding them manually lol.

Anyway, my c-bet gets min raised on the flop when I have TPTK, I call and check-check on the turn. The river completes the flop flush and a couple of straight draws. I could check here, and possibly face a bet of $1.50-$2 and have a tough decision or I can do what I did and bet small 1/3 pot and fold to any raise. And also in this hand there is the chance I could get called by worse Ax as well. Maybe even a hand like T8 would call since the bet is so small perhaps?

Thoughts? Am I just rambling or am I thinking along the right lines lol? I will leave out the result of this hand and put it in a spoiler

So overall another pretty good day! (Apart from the end of course) I'm on a roll, loving it!

On another note, doing a little match betting on the side - thanks to another member on here letting me know about it (HurtNYCDE I owe you a drink or 10 lol ) - and it's insane. Honestly it's unbelievable. At first I was like 'Naaaa, this sounds too good to be true, and it looks way too complicated anyway' but it's really not. The welcome offers aren't difficult at all, and since i've only ever used PokerStars for my online sports betting etc I can get welcome offers from all the different sites. Already did 6 of them with LOADS more to go. If it wasn't for bloody verification process taking ages sometimes (BETFRED !!!) I could get through them all pretty quickly lol.

Any UK people out there, check it out seriously. It's free money. I've already made roughly £85 profit and that's not including the guaranteed profits i'm going to make from tomorrow once the bets settle.

Anyway back to poker! Tomorrow my plan is to play online for the most part, will try and get more volume in than usual

Hey guys, had internet issues for the past couple hours it's finally been sorted after resetting the modem thing like 100 times

Didn't play much today as I still feel like **** only had 2 hours sleep last night and I think I may be drunk off that cough medicine i've been taking (it's actually quite delicious tbh lol!)

Hopefully back to normal tomorrow! Don't want to be away for too long since i'm on a heater right now lol.

I'm in no rush to move up, just enjoying playing. Only played 18k hands at 10nl so far, nowhere near enough.

I prefer playing tournaments live rather than online, just my own preference.
