Hello fellow 2+2'ers,

Before you start reading, it has become a long read and I can understand you don't want to read everything so I made spoilers. Feel free to ask me anything and/or subscribe.

My name is Collin and I play under the SN Okselson. I have been a member of 2+2 since 2013, but you haven't seen me post a lot, merely anything. The silent reader, if you will. I enjoy reading a bunch of PG&C's, but like many others, I haven't been active in posting. Nevertheless, here's what I want to 'give back' to the community, aswel as serve as a guideline/motivation/look-back for myself. I think it's cool to have a PG&C about a marathon, not a sprint. I am in for the longrun. Are you?

Some background information:
Spoiler:
I am a 24 year old Dutchmen. I live with my parents, my sister and my grandmother. One might argue I'm 'too old' to live at home. I have the capacity to move out, but I don't want to yet. I have multiple reasons for not moving out, one is money (yes, freeloading, will talk about this aspect in the future more probably, because I can understand people can see this as me being a cheapskate). The biggest reason is contact with my parents and also being around my grandmother as much as possible while I still can. She's a real sweetheart (like all grandmothers!) and is always up for coffee and a biscuit

I'm studying small business and retail management, currently in 2nd year. The study focusses on setting up a business, which we started at the beginning of this school-year. As this a poker forum I won't go into detail too much, but if one is interested I have no problem with telling some more about it. Next to my study I work parttime as a calling agent. I work at least 10 hours a week and max 16. Steady income to pay for my college and everything else (for example bills for mobile phone, gasoline, health insurance, clothing, etc.)

Ok, as this is a PG&C, here's my goal:
At the end of September I started to play for a stable with two coaches. The deal is simple: 2x 1.5 hour group coaching per week, a skypegroup and videos for a profit split of 50/50. For now I wont go into detail too much about the stable, as I believe this is seen as marketing or self-promotion, and I wouldn't like to come across like that. Ok, ready for the goals! I'll split them up between poker goals and life goals.

The game & money
Spoiler:
Currently I am focussing on 18 man SNG's only, with the occasional tourney in the weekends.
I started playing 1.50$ 18 mans, moved up to the 3.5s and now taking shots at the 7$ BI. My bankroll is 'unlimited', as long as my plays are good, I don't have to worry. I have a clear endgoal, but also monthly goals.
Within 12 months I want to make 1k a month after profit split (so 2k a month with rakeback). Why 1k a month? Currently I make around 500$ a month working as a calling agent, and this is stress-free income. In order for me to quit my parttime job, I want double my monthly income that I get from working or else I won't do quit and keep working. Quitting a job is easy, getting a new one when necessary is much harder.

The money I make from poker is either reinvested in additional coaching hours or withdrawn and saved. My second love, next to my girlfriend, are cars. Currently my dad is helping me 'to get into the business' of searching and buying profitable cars in Germany, to sell them in the Netherlands. If one is interested I'll go into more detail about buying and selling cars. I just started last year, so learning a bunch there aswel

February 2017
( ) Play 1000 7$ 18-mans
( ) Study for one hour, three times per week
( ) Be present at every group coaching session
( ) Update PG&C every other day with interesting hands and progression

Below I attached graphs.

18-man 1.50s

18-man 3.50s

Currently I'm taking shots at the 7s, only played 78 of them yet with no succes.

Life goals:
( ) Finish this years' study with no delay and no re-tests.
( ) Get back into shape.
( ) Work-out 3 times per week, lifting weights & cardio.
( ) Save up a life bankroll of 10k - currently at 5k.

If anything is out of whack, against the rules or just boring, don't hesitate to tell me so.

Cheers,
Okselson

First update:

Played a bunch of 7$ 18-mans past week, with no succes unfortunately. I played 136 games playing 4 to 6 tables. I am confident in my game, but for now I jumped back to the 3.5s, as they are going way better. Time to study some more and then take another shot!

The graph of the 7s is below:

The goal of 1000 7s is not reachable for this month, so I decided to stick with the 1000 games, but then a combination of 7s and 3.50s, with a main focus on 3.50s. Currently I have played 136 games, so I have to play 864 more games, which is around 40 games a day. I will play between 8-10 tables of 3.50s, so this won't be a problem.

Next update will be on Wednesday!

Update time.

I played 247 games so far this month. I made no succes of the 7s (yet) and dropped down to the 3.5s. I increased my number of tables to 12 tables at the same time, but only 3.5s. After dropping down I ran kinda nice at the 3.5s and got some of the lost BI's from the 7s back.

I have played 274 games so far, so I'm running behind as this months has 20 more days. I am confident however that I will reach the goal of 1000 games.

i'll probably play 3.50s for at least this month and try again March 1th.

Cheers!

If you meet that 10k goal, what's after that? Anyway good comeback u got this

The 10k goal is outside my poker bankroll and gives me the ability to buy and own two cars which I want to sell again.
The actual goal is getting a bigger bankroll to buy more cars which results in more money. I hope poker can contribute to that as much as possible.

I will update the progress after the weekend and I will add some hands too!

You're right! Update-time.

I played 400 games so far, so a bit behind schedule, but 100% faith I'll hit my 1k game goal. I played 277 3.5s and won 145$. I played 123 7s and lost 222$, so not happy about the 7s (yet). Will turn it around tho!

At the 7s I played a total of 177 games now, graph below:

Played a total of 1234 3.5s so far with pretty nice results, probably the roi will drop some % over time due to variance.

Have a busy week ahead, but got friday and most of the weekend off. Will update probably on friday or saturday.

Happy valentines tomorow!

Update.

Haven't played but got hands to (hopefully) get some discussion going! Would love that!

The first hand is about equity realizing. I wonder what you guys think? Flop is an easy check/call, the turn is more interesting. The 275 bet gives us 25% pot odds. Against his cards (AK) I get 22% equity, so with implied odds this has to be a call. If we put the guy AT or AQ the equity rises. Hand is below.

The next hand is purely a HRC thing, but I wonder what you guys think. I think my equity vs his shoving range is big enough to take the line, but I can also think of downsides. For example the blinds are still low and I still have a decent hand to wait for better opportunities. The range I gave opponent is: 44+, A2s, KJo+, T9s+. Opinions?

J3s in the BB. What do you guys think about the line's I took? I think the flop check/call is great, because OOP we want to check more than lead. I'm not sure about the turn check, but like the river check. Strange hand... opinions?

        Hello,

Hand 1: played fine, maybe bet a little bit bigger otr. Given the way villian played this hand, opening utg and check/calling that wet of a board you can exclude hands like sets,109s. I think he could play AQ like this as well, and maybe KQ? And AK obv. I think if he has A10 or AJ he would not lead the turn. So his range is pretty narrow otr.

        Hand 2: I would call/isolate (9.0%) 77+,A9s+,ATo+,KQs here.

If i put this hand in icmizer and give villian a range of 22+,A2s+,A7o+,K9s+,KTo+,Q9s+,QTo+,J9s+,JTo,T8s+,98 s (25%)

66 is not a call, and 77 is a little bit better then breakeven.

Hand 3: At that stack depth 10-15bb, i prefer a check-shove on the flop. Given that i would shove 7x,flush draws and prob gutshots (98,108,109) here as well. Also it looks so strong if you call here for that part of your stack. As played turn and river seems fine.

        Gl.

Hi just seen your thread, gl gl.

Do you notice a big skill difference between 3.50 and 7 18-mans or do you think it's more a case of #SmallSampleSize?

I play more MTT SNGs but sometimes pop into the 18-mans if I've only got one or two MTTs going, I might bump into you at the tables!

@Mcbreed thanks for your thoughts! I will update sunday after my weekend sesh or monday morning. Will post new hands too!

@spand42 thanks. I notice a big difference in the amount of regs for sure. A lot of regs play 7s while also regging 15s, 30s and 60s as they need to reg 7s for volume. Ranges are better and I see a lot less ICM mistakes than I see in the 3.5s. I am running below ev in the 7s and above ev in the 3.5s but that will even out eventually.

C ya at the tables then! Nice add to have while table count of MTT's goes down at the end of the sesh! Gl.

I think there's still a lot of bad players at the 7.5s personally but the problem is you do get a higher % of regs so when you do make the money, it's much harder to close them out regularly than at the lower games.

What study are you planning on doing? Vids? Software?

@spand42 you're right about the fish/reg ratio. I study mainly with HRC and pokerstove. I have coaching twice a week and I get railed now and then by my coaches for a live sweat. Really like those!

I also watch video's, yeah, but the main target is studying 5/4/3/2 handed at the final table. A lot to learn in/from HRC!

You play mainly MTT's? Any succes?

I used to play full time 3-4 years ago, a mix of MTTs and cash but stopped when I got gf, proper job etc.

I've still got a proper job, not the gf and I thought I'd give part-time grinding a go again. I've turned $500 into $2.5k so far, binked a couple of MTTs for 4 figure cashes and I'm just having fun with it as a side income really.

It's always great to see people enthusiastic about wanting to become better + improve.

@spand42 Ok man nice! Any ambitions poker related or just fun intended and a nice side-income?

Haha yeah, I'm very motivated about the journey! It's been a rocky month with the 7s. I managed to get out of the downswing (still rocky tho) with playing more 3.5s than 7s.

I am almost at my 1k game goal. I extended my goal tho because I'm 800vpp away from being goldstar. I have never been goldstar and for me it will be quite a accomplishment

I will update tomorrow morning with some hands, as I haven't studied yet!

It's a shame the VIP rewards are terrible now compared to what they were before Amaya took over - I'm not even sure what the benefits of being a goldstar are now?

At the moment I'm playing for more of a side income but for now I've got time so I'm looking to study + improve. I'm hoping to qualify as a solicitor so it would be cool to raise the ~£11k from this alone to pay for the fees. I might be tempted to start one of these threads myself soon - can be a good motivator!

Yeah, they really changed a lot in rewards... It sure doesn't make a big difference in terms of $. It's a mental thing however as I have never reached goldstar before. I like 'reaching' something and it doesn't always have to be a major goal imo, minor goals are very motivating to keep pushing.

@spand42 What do you mean with: I'm hoping to qualify as a solicitor? You are raising money for charity or something? If you do start a thread be sure to let me know as I will be following you for sure!

What do you guys think about this hand? What I thought in-game was make the turn sizing super small to hopefully keep them both into the hand.

              ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overall I had a rocky month, currently at 818 games. I stopped playing the 3.5s and will only focus on 7s with decreased tables, so I can study & improve rather than auto pilot the games. There is still a lot of improvement and missed spots, which I will have to work on to beat the 7s. Below is a graph of the current month.

With me becoming a solicitor, I have to take the course that costs about £11k. So it would be nice if I could earn all that from poker - some sort of a target to work towards.

              1st Hand looks completely fine.

2nd Hand I'd have considered x/r flop - we're quite weak to be floating OOP. As played I would seriously consider jamming the river - a T certainly fits our range and we have no SDV. Maybe that would be spewy as we'd need to believe he could fold Kx to that line.

3rd Hand - Flop bet is too big IMO - there's not a lot people can have on that board. Having said that you got two calls so wtf do I know! Turn sizing looks fishy so I think it's pretty good.

              Hi guys,

It's been a while since I posted, so here's an update.
I took a downswing and I did not handle it like I'm supposed to do. I handled it well in terms of play, because I kept my game together, however I thought about leaving the stable and play on my own and stick to the 3.5s (which is a 'guaranteed' side income) and such kind of trash-thinking.

That is loser-talk however, so I am doing the following:

I talked with my coaches about playing times and I'm rescheduling my times to avoid the regs who play 18:00 - 01:00 my time. I am going to play early in the morning before school. I will grind between 05:00 and 07:00-12:00, depending on the time class starts. In these hours I will only focus on 7s, with a maximum of 6 tables to improve my game rather than putting in the volume.

I played just 69 games this month with 22$ loss, so no biggie.

              Cheers,
              Okselson

@flamekiddo25 cool! I have just sent you a pm.

The goal for this month by the way will be lower than last month, due to a busy school period. In the spoiler I'll write some information about our schoolproject, which is not poker related but maybe someone is interested !

The goal is to play 500 7s and 250 3.5s. I will focus on 7s only if the games are looking soft and shift to 3.5s if necessary.

              Spoiler:
As I told earlier I'm studying small business & retail management. Our year exists of setting up a business with 4 other students, which we have done at the beginning of the schoolyear in September.

We have made a product which will improve the experience of drinking water. We are using scent/smell to influence the drinkers' taste, because study shows that 80% of what you smell comes from scent. We went through a big process of finding producing methods, materials, suppliers and designing, which was really cool. We are really proud too that our product is finished real soon. I will post an update about the product when I have more information or if anyone has a question.

I will post hands this week after studying!

              Cheers,
              Okselson
