QQ is def very close. You might be better to flat the 3-bet when you open UTG. (I'd 4-bet if it was MPvCO or MPvBTN). I think he plays JJ the same way as TT/99 (and there are more combos of the former), so I think I go broke on the turn. He can have the other QQ too. He might occasionally have AKss. I suppose KK/AA are possible too, so it's a pretty horrible spot. If KK/AA are definitely possible, or he would 3-bet/call A9s, then snap-fold the turn.

AKs is a 3-bet pre 100% of the time for me. With the flopped 3rd nuts, I'd raise the turn. As played, it sound incredibly nitty, but just call the river. Your hand is not the monster it appears to be when the board pairs and villain triples multiway, and there are barely any worse hands that can call a raise. I guess he had T8dd, 99 or quads if he stacked off. (Unless he was idiotic enough to play QQ with a diamond like that).

88. Call or 3b pre is fine. Call or make a huge x-raise on the river. The only hands that play for stacks should be his (bad) slowplays with AA, A9, A6 or 99 and the one-outer A8, but if he's bad enough to stack a weak Ax (or somehow has T7), then by all means raise.

A2o in CO is a fold pre. Looks like a check back otr to me. Flushes and boats are your value triple barrels. I don't think trips is quite strong enough, as villain can't call with 9x apart from J9, but he can x-raise boats and flushes.

Hello Sports Fans

Life has a nasty habit of getting in the way of poker. Last month I kicked of this thread with a view to do a lot of hand analysis and getting input from some great guys in this forum. I've been letting the side down with my posting volume, coz work **** is interrupting my flow. This situation should resolve in the next month and I be getting back into the analysis hard...meanwhile, here's me and what I am about pokerwise.

I'm a rec for sure, but I'm an over competitive alfa male type rec...so I plan to win and get as far as I can.

I'm an old timer...the mountains are for my bod; the poker is for my brain.

I'm nicely set up with pensions, property and investments and my kids are all grown up. The missus has her own business too (tl/dr...I haz decent roll).

I was in military aviation, then IT, then finance.

I ****ing poker and I 2+2 whether it's banter or hard math.

And I'm not as fat as you think....two weeks ago, next door to Ben Nevis (in the Scottish highlands, for you overseas chaps)

Spoiler:

I'll get back to serious stuff ASAP, but I'm thinking I need to post some spew...

COOOL PIC!!!!

Being competitive is underrated, I would bet that most top professionals in any given field are naturally competitive. It drives people to be the best, instead of being complacent. Maybe you could even argue being a sore loser could help? (or maybe that is just me trying to justify my bad habits...)

Look forward to the incoming spews

Do you bet turn? If you bet and are raised, what do you do?

As played, what do you do river?

Also bet sizing pre and flop?

What do you have villain on? (at this moment idk...have not looked)

The Friday night craziness is real! Some of that pre-flop stuff is insane, but I guess it's fairly typical for 888 at 10NL.

With the aces in a 4-bet pot, I think your flop bet is way too big. I might even check, because if you bet and get called, you're not doing too well on QTx (villain isn't going to float with stuff like 65s, is he?). The jack is probably the worst possible turn card, as both JJ and AK got there, and you can't rule out QJs entirely. I'd just be checking and hoping to get to showdown for one more bet. I don't think you can call two. The board is just so much better for villain's range (all the sets, two pairs, straights) than for your hand. You beat KK and AQ/AJ/KQs/KJs, but not a lot else. When the turn checks through, I guess you have to check the river, and it's probably a sigh-fold if villain bets 3/4 pot or more. An alternative is to blockbet/fold for 1/2 pot. I don't think you're good here very often though. It's just a terrible runout for aces given the pre-flop sequence. It might even be a check-fold otr, tbh, as villain doesn't have many bluffs, and isn't betting any one pair hands, unless he puts you on KK/AA and turns Jx into a bluff to try and get you off the overpair.

Nice 1 Arty...I saw that exactly as you did...we are the Borg.

Villain had KK, so I reckon the hand is more interesting from his perspective.

Question. What do you do preflop with KK oop at this stack depth? Seem a troubling spot to me.

Finally started work on my Combonator notes, so the strat should be back later in June.

Couple of hands

Little Pot

Line check...these hands happen so rarely I never really know what to do with them. Kinda feels like i should be checking turn to encourage villain after his float????

T8 I think we should check flop or turn at some frequency with a boat, when we turn quads it's a bit more difficult since we have a range advantage so should be barreling a ton, but think check/call turn check/jam river line is better when we have quads and villain has position.

AQ hand I guess is just ok if we decide to check that flop, but I'd cbet and take it from there. As played we can't do much else than jam turn but not loving it.

I figure the bluff is on and better EV than giving up, but I know I'm blocking hands I want him to have. On the turn my concern is I'm running out of fold equity. OTOH, most of his good hands are unlikely now. I'm repping OVP anyway so the 9 brick helps me more than him, as he has to fold his draws now. I might even get him to fold a Q....just.

The flop is a straightforward float (I think) with good equity if I need it and the heart ten is best card in the deck. Then it all goes to rat pooh in a hurry.

I tanked before I bet the turn and the xr was not expected. I haven't a clue what villain is doing here (apart from maybe bluffing) as my hand is pretty much totally disguised.

With a disguised hand I think I have the implied odds + direct odds to call the turn xr, but should I just x back the turn in the first place, or is that too results orientated.

Flop: ($4.60) 3 7 8 (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $4.70

We are 170bb versus SB and back raises are rare at 10nlz, so I'm setmining against SB and if BTN comes along that just helps.

On the flop SB faces up his AK-Ax so I make an opportunity stab against btns weak range. Spewy or inspired?

AJs pre I'd mostly flat the 3b and 4b when we get a bit deeper, but potsized 3bets are often strong by unknowns. Postflop is spewy, especially expecting him to maybe fold Qx which just shouldn't happen vs anyone. Also think we should be sizing for 3 streets, but not with this specific hand.

98s is wp, turn is a clear bet and the call is good as you say we're getting direct+implied odds.

44 I fold pre to this big squeeze, we're in the worst position both pre and post since SB normally cbets and then we obv have to act before BTN. Also, if SB checks we're still not sure about BTN's hand strength. As played, flop sizing is very bad since we kind of have to call off now if BTN jams. Think we should just check flop, but if we want to bet I size it to like 1.70 at most.

Welcome back.

I'm no expert in 4-bet pots (and your 4-bet range is prob quite diff to mine), but I think the AJs is probably a check-fold on the flop, as you don't even have a BDFD, and there's no good barreling cards for that combo. I'd definitely give up on that turn card. Since you've only got QQ/99 as legitimate stack off hands and both often check at least one of the streets, you can't really bet all your air. The best bluffs to balance with will be with the flush draw combos in hearts and spades. e.g. KJs/KTs in hearts or spades would be nice double barrels. Villain isn't folding top pair or a combo draw in a 4-bet pot if he's come this far. You can get him off jacks, but you block that, as you mentioned. EDIT: As panda said, sizing needs to be smaller in 4-bet pots.

98s, I fold pre, but I don't know what most regs do. Although I like floating with backdoors in general, I think you can fold on that flop. You've got enough pairs 88+ and AJs/KJs to defend with by calling, so there's no need to get fancy in this spot. When you do call, everything looks fine from there. Checking back the turn is definitely viable, but I presume most villains at these stakes are folding to a bet once they check the turn (the old "c-bet and quit"), so stabbing should work better at 10NL. His check-raise could well be top boat, or just A3s or JTs but you've got some equity even against quads, so calling is OK.

44 I fold both times pre-flop. Oversets are real, and there are very few flops you really want to see multiway with 44, so why pay 15bb to see one? That flop looks pretty good for the BTN's range, and SB should have some overpairs in his checking range, so I think the stab is spew, especially when you pot it. A smaller bet is probably better for your range. Again, you have hardly any good turn cards if you get called (which is why small pairs are such crappy hands multiway), and you might be almost drawing dead vs a set anyway, so I think this is a failed set-mine that turned into spew.

Stats look good.

Dammit I thought the 44 was boss

Spoiler:
not

As you can see I'm bluffing a fair bit....much of this is just conditioning rather than calculation. I've followed a few aggro posters (or as they like to call it) and decided to try a little myself.

I've also been experimenting with over-betting as you can see.

Here are some more bluffs...

even if they are not very scientific (yet) the mere fact that we can condition ourselves to bet fearlessly into weakness enables us to play a lot mor ehands deeper. Of course NL10z is a total fishfest/nitfest (seriously Arty, you ought to give it a shot, you'll be gobsmacked how fishy it has got) so this may not work so well further up, but by then I hope my theory will have got somewhere.

On a lighter not...sometimes bluffing is just not needed...

Played the Sunday Storm - 75 hands of pure filth with 6 whales at my table. Finally got it in good on the flop with TP for a much needed double up...villain hit a runner, runner BD flush.

Those other semi-bluffs look fine, as you have equity and blockers, but hardly any SDV, and you can credibly represent some big hands.
I don't like the fancy play with aces pre though, especially as there is no stat-based reason to think you'll induce a light "squeeze" by an aggro player (Neither of the blinds had raised a single hand at that point).
FWIW, I am somewhat tempted to have another look at Zoom games (the geeky part of my brain is kind of missing HUD stat exploitation), but judging from the hand histories in meale's thread, the best way to crush microzoom is to fold a lot of rivers. I hate folding.

Let me get this straight.... With a 1,500$ bankroll, you're playing 5.00$ games?
Captain Tilt Goes Forth Quote

$10 games to be precise (and my roll is $1940 this morning), but yeah I'm playing below my roll level for all sorts of reasons, some of which are explained in the thread, some of which are not. It's all part of a structured training plan, that has to fit around a very packed and busy life.

I hope to be at 50nl in a few months, by which time my role should be $3000 - $4000 dollars (from non poker investments).

After that...who knows. Primarily I'm a rec player who wants to be a boss rec player.

Hey Arty, I've tried the back raise thing with AA/KK about five times now....hasn't worked once

Did you see the 500bb eff stack hand on Clanty's thread???

I'm a bluffomaniac
