Played ~1.5h this morning. Combination of soft enough tables; A-game; and run good. Was hungry to play well after 2 or 3 recent big mistakes.

Went to an NA function 2h away in rural WI to hear my sponsee speak and to see a friend that moved there a few months ago. I have a tendency to gravitate toward sameness, routine and such. I've never been really big on traveling. I did a fair amount as a child growing up and it mostly seemed a combination of boredom and waste of time and money. Yesterday and other travels in recent years traveling--getting out of my geographical comfort zone--has been interesting and fun. It's been neat to see different people and different cities. Probably sounds lame AF. But I'm becoming a better traveler(mostly by packing snacks and planning ahead better and not being so afraid of traveling) and it's fun. Also, yesterday it was a lot of fun to chat w/my friend and sponsee about my recent break-up; his new GF; and life. I think I will make a more conscious, deliberate effort to vet any future potential GF before I get too serious w/her. Will likely avoid a lot of trouble that way.

Oh yeah, this is the week. I meet my exercise goals this week. 15 mi of running (3 mi x 2; 4 mi; 5 mi). 4 workouts.

Work goal: arrive >= 5 min prior all 5 shifts.

Hand 1: Fold turn.

Hand 2: I think just call turn; fold river.

Hand 3: I think the flop call might be fine as some Villains will bet a whiffed AK, AQ, KQ. Fold ott tho as Villains just don't continue here w/bluffs often enough. All we would beat ott is QQ and they often 4bet pre. We tie w/KK. But JJ, TT can call the 3bet pre. I don't often see Villains calling w/77 here pre. Once in a green moon I see AA flat the 3bet pre. So it's heavily JJ and TT ott. Fold ott.

I don't know what we beat that takes this line. Maybe 2 combos of A6s I guess. W/the turn raise I was thinking JJ. I don't think FDs are check-min-raising ott on a paired board. I know maybe fold 22 pre, but my logic was that there wasn't much 3betting going on so I thought it +ev to set mine. Seemed like we were beat otr, but you also see so much random **** on Ignition, idk.

Still at it. I've decided to quit being so complacent. Most things I do I like to strive to do my best. It usually doesn't feel right to do something half-assed. My evbb/100 at 100NL is 5.96bb/100 across ~20,571K hands right now. I think I can do better w/some study and work on my game. My attitude is that I want to work at it, be good at poker. If I don't apply some effort my game won't improve and will probably deteriorate over time.

Re 22 hand, think the line is fine, just a cooler. It is kind of wonky that he checks this flop when he should be cbetting a ton, but there is too much 76s/65s/some A6s that could take this line. KK shouldn't xr the turn, so we're literally only losing to 66 and JJ.

Well getting good volume in for me. It'd be nice to win more, but happy enough w/my game. Going back to taking a break every hour as it does several things: 1)makes playing more enjoyable 2)reduces stress 3)makes me play better. It's nice to have the break to process the information I'm exposed to. Helps me reset and play better.

==I've had to recently revisit a concept that I've made an effort before to incorporate in my game: Give Villains the benefit of the doubt until enough information is gathered to determine otherwise. What I mean by this is that if Villain is betting in a fashion that says they want to get stacks in then they probably have at minimum an overpair. Don't assume they are a maniac because you've been sitting w/them for all of 3 hands and they 3bet 2 or 3 of your measly sample size. It does happen that holdem players sometimes get 3 3bet worthy sets of hole cards. And if after say 20 or 30 hands or better yet, a look at hole cards, it is revealed to be a maniac hero is dealing w/then by all means stack off w/TPGK. Before ending this rant I want to provide a hand I played recently which illustrates making the mistake of not giving Villains the benefit of the doubt until gathering enough info. I can't remember the specifics of the hands leading up to this unfortunately. Villain probably just had a string of good cards.

I remember questioning Villain's overbet otf. If they had QT I think they'd usually x-r or bet small then raise. Then pots it ott. With only 13 hands I would need to have seen hole cards that show that this Villain is a maniac in order to stack off here.

Calling flop and turn is fine. The flop donk bet, even over pot, is usually a weak tp hand/draw with some sort of equity. Players rarely donk strong hands.

The reason he donked this hand is because he is supposed to 3bet preflop. When he doesn't, and he flopped an overpair, then he realized he couldn't count on you betting, so he needs to to make sure money gets in the pot.

Usually that isn't the reason, most of the time this guy is going to be a rec and just donk because he hit a piece. I think its WP up to the river. River is just an awful card, V has so many two pairs as well as straights that we just have to give it up.

^Thanks! I agree w/your reasoning. Flop overbet is usually weak. Not sure about the turn call tho. Villains often slow down I think or just shove w/weak-ish and drawish hands. To me potting it here is a sign of strength in my experience.

Been incorporating more 50NL tables when I can't find good 100NL tables and this has been going well. 50NL seems softer than 100NL. Been playing some 200NL very minimally when I can't find a good 100NL table and the 200NL table looks good. The 30 BI BR is where I feel comfortable tho so it'll mostly be 100NL and 50NL until the 6K mark.

I think I will get back into studying some. My game has felt a tad off and studying in the past has paid off. I enjoy looking up what Villains had and I think it helps build sort of a mental database or intuition for Villains' ranges during play.

Otherwise life is going well. Over 3 weeks after breaking up w/ex I am finally feeling good. Going to the gym has been awesome. I haven't been this into running in a long time. It's been nice to have access to the treadmill as it's been polar-vortex cold and running on the snow and ice and in the dark is not fun. Plus you really can't go as fast as you want on snow and ice because you slip some. Last thing, there's often a lot of hot women at the gym I go to. I tend to work on my core on the mats and w/the resistance bands instead of hitting the free weights and bulking up. So in the corner where I work out is like 8 hot women on the mats surrounding me, one elderly woman trying to eek a little more use out of her body, and me.

Haven't played since last post, but I want to say that I woke up this morning and studied some. Looked up what Villains had in 2 hands. Not much, but I enjoyed it and it's a start.

==As usual at this point in the week I'm behind on my running and workout goals. I will probably get my final run in for the week tonight after work. Maybe I'll get the biceps/back workout in as well. Then I can do the core exercises at home tomorrow. But it's a lot to cram in at the end of the week and I'm still skipping the two chest workouts altogether.

==Been chatting w/a girl I grew up w/ who has a son who is my daughter's age and also excels at reading similar to my daughter. So that's been interesting. We'll meet up for the first time in over 20 years at a "game night" in a couple of weeks. I'll see how it goes. Saw my ex at a NA meeting earlier today and I wouldn't say I'm totally over her despite rationally knowing that she's not a good fit for my life and my daughter. This woman I grew up w/is like all-star level when it comes to being good for my daughter. She's pretty attractive physically too and really smart.

==I will plan my workouts and runs across the week next week and not be afraid to pile the exercise in on my days off and on days that I feel like I have extra energy. Earlier in the week I felt like going to the gym more than once in a day and I told myself to space it out. Then I ended up putting things off and here I am w/too much to do in the remaining day and a half.

Some run bad this morning: AA<KK; got rivered in another hand; QQ<TT vs short stack. Plus, ran a bad bluff by repping a set vs a Villain who didn't fold KK. Whatever, it's poker. Gonna keep at it. Also, I might venture into some better playing times. Tuesday at noon isn't exactly the best time to play.

Rest of life is going pretty well. Had two different women on separate occasions ask me out Friday night. The first one was crazy desperate and plain crazy but also harmless. Got a little weird w/her because I saw her again last night and had to turn her down again. The second one was cute, smart, has a masters degree in agro-ecology, and works at a preschool. But I'm still talking to the girl I grew up with and will meet up w/her for the first time in 20 years at game night a week from Saturday. Still lots of women in NA, but not many who don't come w/lots of issues. I gotta keep in mind that most of them, despite being physically attractive, have lots of their life to sort out.

I met my 16 mile running goal for the week last week. That feels good. IRT exercising I'm prioritizing it like this: 1)running 2)core exercises 3)chest and arms. I'm hoping to get a lot in today and tomorrow--my days off.

I also went to the doctor for a physical last week. Most of my life I haven't had health insurance. Now though I have great health insurance and put some money on my flex spending card w/the intention of using my health insurance more this year. I got a general physical and a blood draw. I was happy to see my numbers--cholesterol, calcium, triglycerides, etc.--were pretty spot on. A couple of liver enzymes, ALT in particular, were a little high, but that might be from working out fairly hard.

Moved in w/a good friend of mine (well, he's my sponsee as well) two days ago. So I've been busy w/move related stuff. Plus, I did that "game night" last Saturday and met up w/a woman I hadn't seen since childhood as well as some others I hadn't seen in a long time. It was a lot of fun. I like poker as well as just about any board game. My friend who hosted has a collection of probably 50-100 board or card games.

Considering getting back into poker more now that the move is done.

4.27 evbb/100 and 2.05 bb/100 across 26168 hands at 100NL.

==I love the new place.

==Still talking to my friend from childhood some.

==I haven't run or worked out since Saturday over a week ago. I will get at least a run in tonight. It's still the battle of priorities. I decided to pick up about as much extra work at work as I can as the pay is good. Poker is still a hobby. If I get up to 200NL and can win say >=8 evbb/100 at it then maybe it will be a side income. For now I can't really justify playing instead of working more. So I think work as much as I can as I want to eventually buy a multi-unit and live there and rent out the other units. I want to have a base level of workouts and runs each week. I'm still signed up for the 10 mile race as well. I think my goal for that will be better than 7min/mile pace. Was going to go for something faster and my runs on the TM were approaching 6min/mile pace for the shorter runs. But w/wanting to add a little upper body muscle and everything else going on in life I think 7min/mile pace is awesome. It's a pretty run. I don't need to set the bar too high there. I juggle a lot between work, parenting, and 12 step meetings. Throw in poker and exercise. I will keep at poker, but I want to focus hard on playing well. Quality over quantity. I think my WR is alright given that I don't have a lot of time to devote to it and I often don't play during the best times to play.

The past few days I've been realizing more and more the benefits I have by not having a GF. I've mentioned in plenty of posts how busy I am. My 5.5 year old daughter reads at a second grade level. That's no accident--we worked at it. I want to continue to spend time with my daughter and continue to teach her more. I've been wanting to get more into math and science. Raising my daughter is just one of several things that are worth spending my time on. Others are: running; working out; eating healthy; stretching; reading; brain building exercises; poker; learning about being a landlord as I want to buy a multi-unit; journaling; memory exercises; crossword puzzles; NA meetings; spending time with friends. I avoid the following: watching movies that I wouldn't watch otherwise; spending time seeing past lies; being hooked on messaging a woman instead of talking to my coworkers; buying overpriced coffee drinks for GF; planning and going on dates; spending hours trying to provide the therapy that GF so badly needs and that I'm not equipped to provide; and spending money on GF in general.

I've gotten excited about poker again. A few days ago it was a struggle and I wasn't having fun. Part of it is from playing mid-day on weekdays when it's usually a nit-reg fest. I played 2.5h after work last night and the tables were good. I plan on playing more at night when I can find good tables. Getting good sleep around this plan will take some planning. I will still be running and working out and the night after a hard run is a bad time to play as I'm usually tired. I plan on giving my body the rest that it needs the nights after a hard run or workout.

Otherwise I will get back into attending at least 2 NA meetings each week. I haven't been to one in 2 weeks. Btw, someone I know from NA who was a really good poker player back in the day died of an overdose a week ago. I'd see him at meetings but didn't know who he really was until reading his obituary. Then I remembered playing with him some years ago when the casino in town offered poker. I wish I would have gotten to know him better. It makes me angry that he's gone, seemed like a nice guy. Somehow at the same time it makes me want to become better at poker, sort of follow in his footsteps some. Poker was different back then in the heyday. However, there are still plenty of players with threads on this site who develop their games to the point of having enough of an edge to make a living at it. I don't want to make a living at it, but if I become good enough for it to be a side income that would be great. Part of the appeal of poker is the fun challenge of it. Being able to win money at a game you love is the icing on the cake. I've been playing poker 7 years now. I started playing shortly before becoming a dad and between work and parenting and trying to maintain a relationship I haven't had the time I would have loved to have put in studying poker(and playing more). It's not that I have so much time to devote to poker now, but I do NOT have a girlfriend and as my daughter gets older she will become more and more independent. Plus, my BR is getting there. I will not meet my goal of having the 6K to play live by the halfway point of 2019(I want to leave probably 6K on Ignition too). I enjoy playing online too. I think it might be to the point that I would start taking 5 buy-in shots or something like that by the end of the year. In the end I would play a mix of live and online. Right now Milwaukee is the closest place to play live. I'm envisioning going when there are tournaments or maybe just when there are a lot of tables running. I'd like to play some live tournaments too. But gotta keep working on my game and build my roll first.

==There's a scenario that has lost me a lot of money that will continue to arise as long as I play on Ig. HJ opens, Hero 3! w/QQ+ OTB. One of the blinds calls. Low board, checks to hero who bets. Blind x-r, hero calls. Blind gii ott. Hero calls. Blind has set or straight. Hero loses 100bb's or more. Hero starts to get frustrated with poker. Maybe Hero will now start folding and looking it up a couple of days later instead? QQ+ is 4! pre. 77-TT or so are worried about better PP's. That leaves small PP's for sets and suited connectors for straights. I could be wrong, but that seems to be the trend.

Got sucked out on in a couple of big hands last night, played for ~1h. Good for evbb/100, bad for BR.

==I studied ~30min today. It felt good and I thought to myself I could easily study for hours if I had more time. I don't have a ton of time. I had set a 20min timer and that 20 min went by super fast. I let myself have at the study for about another 10 min. I think the way to go w/study is to in general set a timer. There was a summer some years ago in which I wanted to build my math skills to take calculus 1 in the fall. I studied by setting time goals or hours/week and hours for the summer. I think I ended up putting in around 220 study hours for the summer or around 20h/wk as I got started a little late in the summer I think. This was awesome. It was also depressing at times as it was a lot of alone time. But I don't regret it. It was quite the challenge and brain build. I'm definitely not going to put in 20 study hours now. I wouldn't have any time left to play. I think shooting for 20 min/day, everyday, is the way to go right now. The week is almost over now, but I will establish some goals for next week and have my weeks start on Sunday.

"Raising my daughter is just one of several things that are worth spending my time on. Others are: running; working out; eating healthy; stretching; reading; brain building exercises; poker; learning about being a landlord as I want to buy a multi-unit; journaling; memory exercises; crossword puzzles; NA meetings; spending time with friends. I avoid the following: watching movies that I wouldn't watch otherwise"

The stone-cold nuts.

Ran 5.5 mi today. It was sunny and about 40F which is perfect for a run and it was in the arboretum; it was awesome. I'm at 1.5h of study so far and should be at 2h. Will keep at it and do the best I can with it. Bought a subscription to Microsoft Office today to journal in word and to use Excel some. I like that I can access my word files via my phone while I'm at work. I'm pretty stoked to get going with some study and note taking using this new software. I like that it's easy to transfer over some clips of ranges from Flopzilla and such. I had just been using old school pen and paper journal technology.

Progress Report:

1) I've only studied 2h so far. Should be at 3h at the start of today. I'm shooting for putting in 2h of study today to be back on pace. In the end I don't care so much whether I study exactly 1h each day or 30 min one day and 1.5h the next. However, I do want to be studying at least 30 min everyday I think as I want to be thinking about poker everyday. I don't want to stray from it as I want to keep progressing.

2) I've only done the 5.5mi run as mentioned above. I will get some sort of run in today as it's really nice out.

3) I haven't done any core workouts so far. I only planked for 4 min, which is about 25% of the core1 workout.

4) Should be able to report the hands played and win/loss at the end of the week just fine.

Ran 8.2 mi today; it was another awesome arboretum run(this time around the lake) on a lot of trails.

Studied for 1h, so 3h of study for the week.

Played 1.5h and increased my evbb some, but lost 100bb's in 60/40 siches twice and lost ~1.5BI's for the sesh.
