BUT pretty much every restaurant/store (not even touristy ones) was playing american music nonstop (except they are a decade behind so it was like I'm back in highschool). I was VERY disappointed to not have heard Despacito even once.
I've spent quite a bit of time in Argentina and I'm also fluent in spanish. I think I have a much better grasp/knowledge of things down there than say the typical tourist who goes down for <14 days, with zero spanish, and also never leaves the Palermo area which is basically 90% of all tourists.
Culturally speaking- not just Argentina but all of Central and South America- They view americans/ first worlders with a certain amount of contempt and lack of respect which to be honest is fair considering what we've done to them in the past and what is continuing to happen. I mean if you look at what US foreign policy has done in shaping South America you would be absolutely shocked. It's a buildup of generations and generations of ****. I mean if you put yourself in their shoes- I don't think you'd be pleased at all.
But to be clear, generally speaking, south america views argentina sort of like the rotten foster child nobody wants to be with. they are so arrogant, entitled, macho etc.
