Glad to see this blog back alive!

Was the trip business or pleasure?

I've never been, but would love to go to ski all summer.

I feel like you're working up to it. The progression itt from vegetarian to a little meat, to grilling some meat, to whole carcasses on skewers... you'll be jumping out of a tree onto a wild hog's back in no time.

Yea that was a great tr, you don't see many from South America yet some of the countries down there constantly top 100 best places to live lists, Argentina being one of them.

Argentina is fun to visit. But lists are dumb. They are entirely from a first world perspective looking in, never from the inside looking out. With the exception of the super rich and Argentina in general- most people living in SA would jump at the chance for a new life in the US/CAN.

I say the super rich because they truly live like kings/absolute scum and argentinians because they are very patriotic, very proud, and are generally anti USA (but they can't say no to all the usd pouring in from tourism lol).

Top 100 countries is pretty impressive. Still, I think there is probably room for the US, Canada, and Argentina to all make that list.

Argentina looks beautiful, that was a lovely trip report

LOL @ the rake tho, reminds me of an underground 1/3 game I became a regular at a couple months ago. they didn't have a rake, just a session fee of about 12 a half hour. Sounds like the worst game ever until you find out there's no cap on the buy-in and people will put in their whole $1000+ starting stack with a Gutshot draw

Ty
Yeah it reminds me of a Parks and Rec episode where their sister city visits from Venezuela. The americans had all these stereotypes, but instead they were the ones being looked down on. Pretty exaggerated but in reality we probably do live in bit of a bubble.

From talking with the locals it seems that they are pretty polarized wrt america - some people love everything american and some people have a deep resentment for no clear reason. This may be an urban legend that they tell to tourists but apparently one of their national heros (a futball player duh) a few decades ago wore an anti-US shirt so people caught onto that sentiment.
BUT pretty much every restaurant/store (not even touristy ones) was playing american music nonstop (except they are a decade behind so it was like I'm back in highschool). I was VERY disappointed to not have heard Despacito even once.

In b4 "no one ever bluffs here".....good spot to bluff.....good spot hero fold.

Id be pretty surprised if this wasn't AA >23%. Rare he'd have worse for value. In his spot I do like using 76s as a bluff but may wuss out b/c of the spr. In your spot, I'm generally not in the bidness of folding sets

Yeah that bluff has some "theory" basis but in reality I don't think anyone actually pulls the trigger cuz like you said the spr is so small and I look polarized. Ended up nit folding. I thought it was probably a slow play from AcAx so not about to pay them off. That and I can't beat anything else either and super unlikely he plays AQ/other 2ps that way. It's so annoying cuz usually when they have aces on that board they arent supposed to make much unless they cooler someone (which they did)

Just wanted to see if there's a good reason to call it off other than "we have a set"

Funny how I've called off waay more with waay less live and didnt think as much about it

he's agreeing with you

don't think it's too weird to flick it in generously live as you have so much more information like age/drunkenness/whatevs

also online with multitabling it's a lot easier to not try crazy s***, or rather live poker is boring enough to get people to try nonsense

I've spent quite a bit of time in Argentina and I'm also fluent in spanish. I think I have a much better grasp/knowledge of things down there than say the typical tourist who goes down for <14 days, with zero spanish, and also never leaves the Palermo area which is basically 90% of all tourists.

Culturally speaking- not just Argentina but all of Central and South America- They view americans/ first worlders with a certain amount of contempt and lack of respect which to be honest is fair considering what we've done to them in the past and what is continuing to happen. I mean if you look at what US foreign policy has done in shaping South America you would be absolutely shocked. It's a buildup of generations and generations of ****. I mean if you put yourself in their shoes- I don't think you'd be pleased at all.

But to be clear, generally speaking, south america views argentina sort of like the rotten foster child nobody wants to be with. they are so arrogant, entitled, macho etc.

So I've been getting into crime thriller novels/audiobooks as recreational reading.

Almost done The Silence of the Lambs so want something lined up after.

Anyone got any recommendations? Did not really like The Girl on the Train (plot is too shallow), liked Red Dragon okay (Silence of the Lambs is better imo), and The Glass Rainbow (by James Lee Burke) is a little too wordy for some light reading. Preferably something that hasn't been made into a movie recently.

By the way, anyone that have read The Silence of the Lambs - ever picture Tommy Lee Jones from No Country for Old Men as Crawford and Sarah Linden from The Killing as Starling? I can't get their faces out of my mind while reading.
