That end of the year post
This was a vindicating year for poker. The first few years since I started this thread I ran extremely below ev and it wrecked havoc on me mentally. I ended last year on a big downswing also and didn't see how it would ever change. Even though I was winning overall, what feels like wasted effort and a sense of unfulfilled entitlement lead me to almost quitting a few times. (Totally okay with admitting entitlement btw) (also thank you for listening if I ever complained to you).
Anyway, I stuck it out and ended up doing really well this year. (Might put up a graph later.) Finally had good and great sessions but no bad ones playing bigger games. This year I played higher and sat with more money than I ever did before so that felt like a nice accomplishment - because I didn't randomly land there on a hot streak but step by small step through persistence and over time. Played online a bunch also and won a little.
So yeah, variance in live poker is real even over thousands of hours. Next year I'll be working on correcting the ev of those bad regs who have ran way above ev lifetime
(and less of a bad reg myself
).
